Show the bloody game!

Ridiculous tonight!

Agreed. The camera has panned from the half way line to the end that Derby are attacking in the first half about 5 times while the game has been casually going on.

It's the BBC, what an excuse of a TV broadcaster.

Another perfect example of the BBCs incompetence.

What exactly is it they're hoping to see when they show close ups of manager's faces? They were even discussing how emotionless LVG looked last night, whilst showing endless close ups of his emotionless face, watching the game. The game that we couldn't watch because we were watching LVG watching it instead.

It's like they're deliberately taking the piss out of us.

The sound during the interviews was appalling at times, the whole stadium must've been able to hear the pitch side reporters chat with Paul Ince in the build up to the match it was that loud.

It was pretty bad last night, but Spanish football has become absolutely ridiculous with it in the last couple of years, watching English football doesn't seem so bad in comparison.

But I do wish they'd ditch reaction shots and multiple replays. When I'm at the game, I'm never thinking about what the managers face looks like. Just show the game. Ditch commentary too. Why is it still needed? We can all see the game.

The Sky Sports tactical cam is good for ditching replays. It just shows the game as if you're standing in the top tier. Its quite inconsistent from ground to ground though, and you still get the commentary talking about the replays you're not seeing.

It's ridiculous at times when you can hear the crowd in the background hinting at some kind of action but all I can see is endless repetitive footage of nonsense.

Cant you just mute the commentators? I always do that if i watch in a language i dont understand, but i dont use a skybox or whatever you use in the UK.

To me it seems that Spanish camera crews and directors in the CL aren't just annoying, they're also manipulative. Multiple replays and especially the super slomo's tend to make fouls look much worse and they show a lot of fouls on the Spanish club in a super slomo replay. Also dubious off side decisions don't get a replay at all, while others are replayed from a suggestive but indecisive angle.

In general the problem is that both the BBC and the Spanish want to tell a story themselves instead of just let the story unfold itself and pass it through.

The FA Cup production of the actual matches is beyond ridiculous!

Whomever is in charge should be fired for not understanding what brings value to football viewers (Hint: It is football).

It is not 10 second close ups of faces from pointless people in the stand or on the bench while the match is going on. "...a throw-in for United *Cuts to the stand for 15 seconds, while you can hear stuff going on on the pitch* ...Everton is in attack."

The incompetence (or misunderstood creative approach) is staggering compared to other league's and cups.

This is not Hollywood, you are not Spielberg - you just have one job: Show replays when the ball is out of play, and otherwise film the bloody action on the pitch! Idiots.

Yep. Totally agree - very very annoying. The replays I can understand (just the one though) when the match goes quiet however showing manager's nostrils and random people in the stands when the match is in progress ? That shows a total lack of comprehension as to what people are actually tuned in for !

I'm still droning on about how they show replays from frackin' miles away & above the action, especially goals. I will leave no stone unturned in my quest to stop this – and that quest will be relentless.

It's really getting bad lately. fecking frustrating, although the less I see of Arse the better at the moment.

Picture in picture is one of the few things BT does right. There's absolutely no response to commit the entire screen to a poorly made sign in the crowd for 30 seconds, show it in the corner and show the game.

I can't remember who posted it, but someone said the guy in the glasses looks like Alan Carr. I'm laughing again.

That guy who says 'I don't believe this' amazes me. I've never seen a head like his before. It doesn't look real.

Just before Barca's second goal they decided to show a close up of Hazard when everyone knew there was a dangerous counter on. I was actually screaming at the TV. So bloody annoying.

Spanish broadcasters love these ridiculous "dramatic" close ups on players' faces. They have shows specialized in lip reading what players say to themselves on the pitch. Very cringeworthy stuff

This sort of stuff drives me spare... to the point where I start to fantasise about directing football coverage and zealously imposing a rigourous minimalism. Two camera angles maximum. Never more than one action replay, and even that only when the ball is out of play. No close ups of players taking throw ins. No cutting to the manager's response. No zooming in on celebrating fans - I already know it's an exciting moment thanks. No zooming in on play so far that you can't see the full width of the pitch and other players' movements (there is more to football than whoever is currently on the ball - the BBC are particular culprits here).

Don't even get me started on commentary.

Are the BT commentators not at the game so ? They hadn’t a clue what happened for the goal?

Couldn't have been based on their reaction.

I still roughly remember when I figured out that commentators weren't necessarily at a match. That shattered an illusion I'd been living under. For some reason La Liga used to sporadically lose pictures on Sky. After finishing whatever they were in the middle of saying the commentators would then go silent with either a 'temporary fault' kind of message flashed up or cutting back to the studio. No reason why they couldn't continue with radio-type comms if they were actually there as their sound was still working after the pictures dropped.

See I was the opposite when I was a kid and just started watching. I assumed to commentate on a game you’d need to be in a TV studio, so when I first saw Sky cut to the commentators in a gantry at a stadium it blew my mind. I wondered why we didn’t hear all the other people around them all the time.

No, the media are not travelling at the moment so they were watching the same pictures as us.

Outstanding production last night, a good 5 seconds of full frontal male nudity, completely missed the first goal showing a pointless replay and didnt manage to produce a decent replay of the penalty incident either.

Although in fairness the streaker was probably the most entertaining part of the match.

Spanish broadcaster host was to blame for missing that Rashford goal, not BT.

I’ve noticed the Spanish love to show closeups of individual player facial reaction upon conceding a goal, and will not hesitate to do all 11 players. Hate that.

Yesterday was interesting for the Rashford goal. I watched it with Spanish commentators and like everyone else they almost missed the goal because they were watching a pointless replay. That didn't stop them from doing the usual "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!" bit although this time it was weirdly delayed which gave me the impression he had to remind himself that "oh, as a Spanish commentator I need to do this".

Couldnt agree more. Show the fecking game. Whatever about a replay ot does my head in when the camera just shows someone sitting in the dugout or a replay of a player....its head wrecking.

Didnt realise till half way through first post that the post was from 2011 :)

I’ve always hated pointless replays, literally one moment of decent action and it’s missed by a slow motion replay of absolutely nothing.

Has always p*ssed me off to be honest. Even if it doesn’t result in missing a goal I just want to see what’s feckin happening live.

Show the big green rectangle. Is it that fecking hard, match director?

Not lingering shots of fans, not 20 second close-ups of managers, not fancy angles of a corner flag with players out of focus in the background.

It's sad alright.
