First 10 years under AW@Arsenal:- 3 PL+4 FA cups
Vs.
Last 10 years under AW@Arsenal:- 0 PL+3 FA cup.

That's hardly a progress even if you factor in the Highbury vs. Emirates investment. Any other top clubs he would have got fired. Long may it continue !

multi-million contract per season to fail your objectives. Specialists in Failure.

MUFC have had two managers that failed and now we are reaping the reward of holding high standards. 3 trophies and a champions league group stage. Even with that we know we have to improve in the league.

There's just something i absolutely despise about multi-millionaires failing upwards. Even if they are rival managers.

It's going to get messy next year for sure, the board clearly don't have the ambition to get back to the top. Wenger hasn't competed for the league in years, nevermind winning it. He's a stubborn man Wenger and should have left after winning the cup. It's going to get ugly in the stands next year. The disconnect from the board and fans is huge, the arsenal fans haven't been anything to be proud of either. The lack of respect and the way they conducted themselves in the stands was disgusting. The club is a mess despite winning the FA cup(deservedly winning it too). The uncertainty of Sanchez and the lack of real quality in the squad, arsenal need a rebuild and a fresh new direction. The atmosphere is poison and the first sign of trouble next year, it won't be the same. It will be much worse.

If I was Arsenal I wouldn't have renewed his contract however the switch to 3-4-3 could make then defensively more solid over a season. He needs to get top dollar for Sanchez, I can't see how it's good for team morale to keep him around. He could improve next season especially if he throws in the towel for the EL and goes all in for the league - that said his teams just seem so mentally fragile these days, gone is the swagger of Henry, Vieira and Bergkamp.

I keep seeing arsenal fans saying wenger signing a new deal means it's likely sanchez will sign. Why on earth would he re-sign into a declining team that hasn't got the balls to make the manager accountable?

Surely Sanchez wants to win something beyond an FA Cup?

I really want to know how the hell he is selling himself to the board after all that banners. But let more of this lack of ambition from the owners continue.

2 years? FFS. I wanted to bust out my 'fourth more years, fourth more years' joke which I used at the last renewal.

Still 2 more years of meltdowns, can't be too dissapointed

Bold claim given he signed for Arsenal.

Absolutely brilliant, worst kept secret in sports history! Loving it!

Same here.
This is the eqivalent of LVG being given a new contract, after finishing 5th and winning the FA Cup, while subjecting us to the worst football in living memory.
I feel for the AFC fans, but as a MUFC fan, I love it.

I think that this may well be Jose's (and his back room team's) real reaction to the news.

I'm worried Wenger has something special up his sleeve for next season. I believe he saved the best for last.:)

It could be that Wenger chose not to win all these years, studying SAF and Mourinho's tactics only to pounce when no one is prepared. Choosing to do this at a time when pretty much all the top managers are in the PL, is genious.:)

I don't think anyone's satisfied with the returns (certainly not Arsene) but it's 3 FA cups in the last 4 years after several fallow years, which looks a bit better.

I can't wait for the fan excuses. It's the same every year.

The wenger in fans will just lower expectations. Before it was top 4 and a trophy, now its FA cup and Europa. When wenger crashes out of europa it will be "he's not worrying about europa, top 4 is key"
Most Arsenal fans I know want Wenger gone already for the last 3 seasons and they haven't been making any excuses anymore. Wenger should swallow his ego and do what is best for the club he supposedly loves so much. Losing Ozil and Sanchez will make it very hard for Arsenal to compete for top 4 next season.

Talking to a mate who is a gunner and he's happy Wenger stayed. Delusional though, seems to think that none of the issues are Wengers fault.

Me personally it's been a shambles. It doesn't make sense.

Board policy makes it hard for Wenger. Agreed. But Wengers spent last few years and if anything they've declined. Board also isn't responsible for the diabolical mentallity of the team.

But more importantly, Wenger blamed the season on uncertainty. Uncertainty which he could have avoided if he had just signed earlier. Ah but you say that it wasn't his choice and the board wanted to wait?

Well that doesn't make sense either. If the board wanted to wait it's implicit they wanted to see what the outcome of the season was. If they wanted to see what the outcome was, it suggests that there was a potential scenario/outcome which would not have been sufficient to give Wenger a new contract. In my opinion finishing outside the CL was essentially the worst possible outcome (ok winning the cup softens the blow but not significantly enough). If therefore the worst outcome was what transpired and he got a new contract anyway, then why wouldn't the board have just offered him a deal earlier?

Both situations are stupid.

The fans have been played...again.

The owners have a tin ear to what their fans are saying and Arsene will need to do brilliant things next season to justify this decision.

Fantastic news...pencil Arsenal in for 5th or 6th next season (Thursday football is going to affect them bigly)

...In short, get the popcorn ready!

If they sell Sanchez and have another poor season things will get very ugly at Arsenal.
