One of the lads had a wii in the house I was sharing and it was good craic but never owned a PS3. Both have online gaming and I've never played any PS3 games but my PS2 packed it in yesterday. Is the PS3 backwards compatible or will I have to abandon all the PS2 games? Cheers.

the ps3 you buy currently won't be backwards compatible. if you had a 360 i'd say get the wii for a change of pace, but if you're entirely consoleless i'd go for the ps3 if it's a choice of those 2.
Right it depends what kinda games your into with regards to gaming in general?
on Backwards compatability only the 60gb models have it in these neck of the woods and I think they are almost non-existant in stores at this stage

Wii's online isn't that varied they only have a few games online. I'd say PS3, Wii is fun for things like friends round, and the occasional thing to do when your bored, it does have some good titles but I still prefer the PS3, it's a much better all round console.

360 - cheaper and slightly better than the PS3 in my opinion, not as noisy too!!

There's a lot more to the PS3's game list than another MGS game.
I have a PS3 and a Wii. The Wii is good fun - i love Mario Galaxy, but PS3 is on a different level.
Get an Xbox 360 - they have a rip off version of Buzz and a rip off version of Singstar coming soon!!!
Between those two go for the PS3.

I didn't say there wasn't, the game list for the PS3 & 360 are very very similar, one of the major sellers for the PS3 is MGS4 and is well loved title from the previous instalments... so this is a could be a big factor in some peoples choice as the 360 doesn't have it!!
Don't get me wrong there are a lot more games on the PS3 which the 360 doesn't have, but this is the one that would sway me at the moment!

10 years is quite long, I'm surprised Playstation would give the xbox another advantage on the next gen console front, sales of the ps3 couldn't compete with the 360 at first because of the foothold xbox already had in the market, so for Playstation to allow xbox to gain that again

I watched all three again on Gamespot this morning, it wasn't that bad. Apart from the FFXIII thing, Microsoft's was the worse. fecking cringeworthy.

There was no bomb. It was underwhelming, but not that bad. They should have showed more games though. I think Sony has got fed up of this show. They always show more stuff at their own events, Leipzig and Tokyo nowadays.

Who knows!? I wasn't saying it would be in the next 4-5 years, although it possibly could be! The original xbox was released in 2002, the 360 was released in 2005, only 3 years later and that times already passed since the 360's arrival! There can easily be a major development in technology, there probably already is compared to the current status of the 360 and PS3, and if it means the developers can vastly improve on games which are out at the moment then there going to make it! Just a matter of time I suppose!
I understand what your saying, but a couple of years minimum from a £200 console isn't bad at all! But when a replacement comes out, everybody wants the next best thing and he might want to get that anyway! But wouldn't you be a little more annoyed if you splashed out on a PS3 then find in a few years a replacement came along!? (not saying there will be)
