Serie A vs La Liga Head-to-Head Draft

Players who are eligible: Only players who have played in one of these leagues but not both are eligible.

Format: Snake draft. 16 managers split into two pots (8 managers will select players from Serie A, 8 will select from La Liga).

Restrictions:
1. Only players born after 1st January 1960 will be eligible

2. Players who have neither played in Serie A, nor La Liga will obviously be blocked

3. Players to have played in both leagues will be blocked

4. Each team must have a minimum of five nationalities represented in their starting XI. If a player has played for more than one national team, you must select one and state which nationality when producing your write ups. There is obviously no limitations as to the maximum number of nationalities in your squad.

5. Three additional players from both leagues will be blocked before the start of the draft. It will be for the manager number 8 on the list for each league who will decide which three players to block from the opposite league. These players will be blocked for the duration of the draft.

6. If an ineligible player is selected you are stuck with him. If a second ineligible player is selected, you will be given a sheep.

7. Even if players made a single competitive league appearance in the top division (whether on loan or signed for that team) in both leagues they are blocked and ineligible.

8. The only way a player will be eligible having played in both countries will be if he played for a lower league team in either Spain or Italy but not Serie A/La Liga. This counts for all competitions (league & cup matches).

Drafting sequence: First the teams will be randomly drawn to determine which league they will represent (odd numbers will represent Serie A, even numbers will represent La Liga).

A second random draw will then be made to determine the order for each relevant snake (of 8 teams), down from 1st to 8th, then back up to the 1st and down again and so on.

General Draft Rules:
G1 - All matches will be for 24 hrs
G2 -You have 8 hours to post your draft pick and update the list. If you do not do so, the draft proceeds to the next manager in line and it is up to you to post your draft pick at your earliest convenience.
G3 -Once you have posted your draft pick you can't change it and you have to tag the manager next in line to inform him/her that it is his/her turn. There are NO exceptions to this rule, please honour it, even if you feck up.
G4 - Managers may delegate an Assistant Manager to assist them, as long as it doesn't cause continuous waiting while "discussing" picks. If delays continue, you'll be stripped of your AM. AM'scanpost the pick for the manager, and that pick will also be final. So be sure before posting.
G5 - When posting your draft pick, please post a picture of the player. You can also briefly explain why you picked this player. This will help keep discussions going as well as outside interest.
G6 - Voting is based on league peak.
G7 - Reinforcement pool will be all eliminated teams. Not round specific.

Squad size:
12 players before the first match, then 14 for the quarterfinals, 16 for the semifinals and 17 for the final

Matchday:
As the draft name suggests, this is a battle of the leagues. Teams from each league will be randomly drawn against a team from the other league. At the ¼ final stage, the remaining 8 teams will be randomly drawn against each other (i.e. you may play against a team from the same league).

Reinforcements: after each knockout round all eliminated players go into a reinforcement pool for their relevant league and stay there until the final. After the first round and the quarterfinals, each manager gets to pick 2 players in a snake format with the draft order reversed from the previous round. After the semi-final, the two finalists can only pick one player as a reinforcement. Managers can only select players from the league they are representing when making reinforcements.

The same nationality restrictions will also apply for all rounds.

Here it is folks. Know most of you have confirmed you are in but if the remaining ones could then we can draw the leagues for each manager and you can make a start researching. Draft won't officially begin until the final has been completed on the current one.

The word has spread on the rules of this draft and there are a few players who are gutted not to be part of it...

...Will let you all cry when you figure out all the others (there is a LOT of serious talent!!)

Nice one. Can we at least know which league we're working with?

yeah can we at least draw the leagues so that we can speed up the picking process for the first picks.

Cheers mate. I'm starting a new job this week or next so probably won't be much use after that, but if anyone wants an AM for the initial drafting - I'm your man!

@Marty1968 Thanks for the mention, man - but I'll be too busy on other fronts to take any part in this one. Best of luck - very nice concept, I'll be keeping an eye on how things proceed, of course.

8. The only way a player will be eligible having played in both countries will be if he played in a lower league in either Spain or Italy but not Serie A/La Liga.

FWIW:

This could be taken to mean that a player who has cup matches (domestic or UEFA tournaments) but no league matches for a top tier team, would be eligible.

Obviously, the above doesn't apply to a huge amount of players, but still.

If the intention is to block all players who have featured in a single match, regardless of competition, for a top tier team in the other league - then you should probably rephrase it. On the other hand, if you want to leave a loop hole of sorts open, by making it about league matches exclusively - then it's obviously fine as it stands.

Again - FWIW.

And again - good luck!

ETA

The above is obviously a mere technicality more than anything, not least because of the "league peak" standard: It would be hard to imagine a world beater who displayed world beating form for a top tier team whilst never featuring in a single league match.

We should also ban Messi IMO

5. Three additional players from both leagues will be blocked before the start of the draft.

Messi and Ronaldo will certainly get banned IMO. Possibly one of Xavi/Iniesta as well.

As per the rules, 3 players from each league will be banned. Messi and Maradona will definitely be 1 each.

No need for Maradona, he played for Barca and Napoli.

You guys need to relax with the drafts. Feels like it's been constant for like a year, before the last one ends a new one springs up. It's getting old and boring, just give it a rest for a few months...

You're funny.

Stop naming players guys...as per the rules the manager who is 8th on both lists will get to choose 3 players to block. The ones you've mentioned will most likely be those chosen but still....

Apart from a few certified addicts, it isn't actually the exact same set of managers who play all the time.

As for old and boring, you'd think so. But people clearly enjoy it.

You're like that pointless older kid who comes around to inform the clearly not bored younger kids that their game is boring. Guess what? They don't care.

Two things for me. The first is to keep the pools and concepts fresh. Marty's excellent idea here does just that. I'm glad the all-time pool is getting parked for a bit. The second is not to spam the front page with too much draft activity, that rarely/never happens in fairness, but could get knuckles wrapped by the Caf gods if they start to receive complaints from Victor Meldrew types.

But generally this is where much of the best football-related discussion takes place on the Caf these days - so crack on boys.

Ok so there's a spot available still then if green_smiley isn't going to take it...

I'm happy enough being AM, especially if this goes ahead in the next few days.

I'll be on a snowboard trip with limited access till next weekend.
Ye, completely missed that you were an am.

Do the draw, someone will join.

What's the deal with these newbies, out of interest? They're planning on being promoted (arrogant cnuts)? Or planning on playing by proxy somehow? PM'ing honest folk up here and suchlike methods?
