Sergio Reguilon - Round 2

To the people laughing at this, do you think spending 40 million on a Kerkez/Gutierrez, or 80 million on a Theo Hernández is sensible squad building, when we have Shaw, Malacia, Martínez, and a 17 year old world class prospect in Amass, already at the club?

Considering everything, getting someone like Reguilón for under 10 million is much more likely to be a smart decision, than throwing money on an issue that might not even exist, as there's absolutely zero evidence that either Martínez or Malacia are injury prone players, their issues that saw them miss most of the last season is not related to being prone to injuries. Shaw has to be managed carefully, but he's the best left back in the world as well.

Shaw has been here longer than martial and has played less games. Malacia has been injured long term it would make sense. I think it’s time to let Shaw go tbh, what’s the point?

Another player who’s a reflection of the bad times.

He was shocking for Brentford, we should steer well clear.

Shocking?

3.6 tackles a game, 1.3 interceptions, 2.6 clearances

Dalot had 2.3, 1 and 2.7

Played almost half his games for them as a wingback/left midfielder and had 4 assists in 14 games with 2 subs

Dalot played twice as many games with 3 assists. Shaw's most assists ever was 5 one time.

Literally any potential signing some will convince themselves it's a good idea.

Fortunately it's a terrible source.

I could just set up a twitter account and post rubbish rumours like that in two minutes, is that genuinely a legit account or someone just posting that for a laugh?

He barely played and was then sent back to Spurs in January.

Brentford would be a better move for him at this stage of his career but not sure they'll spent the money Spurs want with Rico Henry back after his ACL.

Whatever the question is, he's not the answer.

Doughty would be a much better signing and would probably cost less in the long run.

He was fine when he was here. It was baffling that we let him go in January.

But surely with all these football people in the upper management, we can find a decent and younger left back for non exorbitant fee.

It’s come an article in AS & they’ve credited it in the tweet

Manchester United and Julen Lopetegui's West Ham, who had him under his command for 39 matches at Sevilla, have once again become interested in the Spanish side.

Tweet translation:

The Spanish full-back, with a contract until 2025, will not continue at Tottenham, but his good work at Brentford has led to several Premier League teams being interested in his signing

As an experienced stop gap for that price? It’s decent business. There’s no point adding another kid who’ll stagnate without enough games and we probably dont have the flexibility to go big this summer for someone to take Shaws place. If Shaw bombs out this season I see it being the priority next season along with GK if Onana doesn’t kick on.

West Ham interest is far more logical given he's already in London, West Ham still have Cresswell on their books as LWB option and Lopetegui managed him at Sevilla.

Man. United probably just a bizarre link to tell West Ham to hurry up and sign him.

Two pages and no comment on how his bird will brighten up the place? Disappointed.

Yeah, i really can't imagine there is any substance to this one.
Most likely LB options would be Kerkez & Gutierrez I would have thought, but I don't know how the City / Girona ownership would effect that one.

Would be a smart signing for us imo.

Reguilon played pretty well at Brentford from memory - he had one awful game where he got sent off in first 20mins of a game but I think he was good rest of the time

Im ok with this , hopefully the club realises we only need a short term option as Amass is the future in 18months or so

I quite liked him.

Considering how much investment we probably need in other positions I'd be quite happy with this.

If Luke Shaw was fit all reason, and Reguilon was back up, then there's no problem there. But the likelihood of Luke Shaw being fit for 30 games is diminishing year to year.

Why did we let him go in January?

 Imagine after the fanfare about our new structure, we start our window by signing another Dutch guy on Ten Hag’s speed dial then a left back who we already had until the other day

As always it depends on the deal.

Shaw would still be 1st choice if he stays fit.
Malacia is still at the club (I think)
Harry Amass turns 18 during the season.

Spending 30 million on a shiny new LB 'might' not be the best long term plan just yet.

Adding a super cheap back-up option like Reguilon and giving Shaw/Malacia another season. Giving Amass minutes in the second half of the season in the Cup/Europa.

Sure it's not ideal or particular clean, but United aren't going to spend big two CB a LB and a RB if AWB leaves. Far too many fires to put out in one window.

He shouldn't have gone back to Spurs in January anyway, so I'm ok with this.

Thank god we have you to remind us that every facet of the club and everything they do is shite.

Promote Amass then if he is so good

I thought he was alright for us actually, wouldn't mind this if it was a minimal fee.
