Sergio Reguilon | Man Utd Loan with January break clause

Do we think Reguilon will start till Shaw or Malacia are back or will it be Dalot at LB and Reguilon as cover in case Dalot of AWB get injured?

This is a Weghorsty move for me - plugging a temporary hole at no great cost, but with scant reason to think we're getting something good. Cuccurella would have had more promise maybe - at least he's just one season removed from a great season at Brighton. But if his loan fee meant we couldn't do a permanent deal for Amrabat, that wouldn't be worth it.

Outside of the club being sold where is the hope for next year?

Next summer we will need to be looking at Varane and Casemiro replacements potentially, before we actually even try and get back to last seasons levels.

I can see us finishing between 6-8 at the moment.

I agree, looking at what other clubs have done this window, a top four finish coule well be a better achievement than Ole and Mouriho doing it in there firs season. Aa things stand my gut feeling is the only two areas we have significantly progressed with signings are distribution from the keeper....not sure other aspects of keeping we have improved and striker (yet we needed two strikers this summer, especially after releasing Greenwood).

Considering DeGea was one of the weakest keepers in the league with the ball and his feet and we had Weghorst as our striker last summer......any signings would have improved those areas, really hope Hoijlund turns out to be as good as the feeling I have he could be. He and Mainoo as things stand are absolutely vital to our season if we are to do well, I feel our best hope is 4th which is regression, but I woul dbe happy with that this year, real fear if things go wrong and big players dont have hug spells like last year.....we could come as lo as 8/9th

Nah he’s decent. He’s had to put up with Jose and Conte as coaches, that’s enough to stifle anyone’s career. He’ll be ok, just give him a chance.
Oh and for what it’s worth , our club is owned and run by amateurs. Nothing new there.

I'm prepared to buy that, what worries me more is why does Postecoglu have no use for him. He should be a better fit stylistically. And with Sessegnon out, they don't have much depth at LB either. Still, we must hope I guess - he used to be very highly regarded.

Do we think Reguilon will start till Shaw or Malacia are back or will it be Dalot at LB and Reguilon as cover in case Dalot of AWB get injured?

Hopefully the latter. I'm no great fan of Dalot, especially on the left, but Reguilon is worse. If he's literally just cover against a worst-case scenario of three injured LBs at once, then it's a sensible enough signing.

To those saying we should have just stuck with Fernandez....had we done so that would leave just him as LB cover for the next few months.

Should Fernandez turn out not to be ready or get injured himself we would be well and truly fecked.

This is smart planning from the club and the right thing to do.

Yea I'm assuming this is the case. While I think Dalot is a lot better on the right, he can do a decent job in the left. I was thinking more about if AWB got injured and we needed Dalot back on the right that Reguilon could fit in.

Needed a body, got one. Couldnt care less who it is. Just sign a goddamn midfielder.

We are a laughing stock of EPL. We passed on Cucurella, who fit us much better and arguably is better player, so we could have had January termination option, a ridiculous ask to begin with.

This is what United has become. If this doesn't make you feel dirty, you must not remember what this club used to be.

What a ridiculous post. Why would you want Cucurella on loan for the whole season given Shaw is out till December. He'd have on a lot higher wages plus 4/5m in loan fee?

The club were dealt a shit hand and they've handled it pretty decently and fast. The January break clause is great news.

Laughing stock of a post.

I vastly prefer this to Cucurella. If he gets back to pre Spurs form we are getting a great player, and if he doesnt we can get rid in January.
He is also a better crosser than Cucurella which will benefit Rasmus.

Hardly a ridiculous ask, seeing as that is exactly what Spurs have agreed to.
They agreed because Reguilon is shit. Chelsea sent us to go ..., because Cucurella is not shit. That is the whole point.

I thought he was fantastic at Sevilla and was really hoping the rumours at the time were true that we were interested! Obviously things haven’t been going great for him but sometimes players just suit certain clubs and managers. Happy to give him a chance!

Benfica is signing Bernat on loan. He was on sale. Why didn't we go after him? He is much better than Reguilon.

Oooh interesting. I was one of those who wanted him when we were rumoured to be interested before he went to Spurs (although it was understandable when Real wanted a buy back clause that we didn't take the plunge).

The break clause was money-related though. We didn't want to pay a player wages for the whole season that we may only need until January, so instead we went with our cheaper backup option.

If Ten Haag's first choice was Cucarella (which seems likely since we've been after him for the last week) and we've ended up going with a less fancied player instead because we can send him back in January, that's basically the definition of money being the issue.
Not exactly. It frees up space for a signing in January in other position. We were ready to pay 2-3m and still have that clause.

Having a player on higher wages who you dont need is not good. This is exact problem we are trying to fix. If we have tried to address it with our future signings, people should appreciate it. Think it was smart to move away from an expensive loan which dont suit our requirements

Good, got cover....but utd sign a bloody midfielder and also if possible another forward

Username doesn't check out.

it’s legit. Trust me bro.

You're back! Good to see you posting again. Picked a great time though to return with the start we have had to the season.

I’m semi back. Yes quite a disheartening start made even worse by the rumbling sale issues, Greenwood, our finances and the injuries to Shaw, Malacia, Mainoo, Mount and Hojlund (Amad too).

I understand why people are angry. We all wanted an early sale and smooth summer but we’ve literally had everything go against us it seems.

This post has been brought to you by Ayrton Senna

I disagree. I think Chelsea thought they could extort us, Chelsea will regret not letting Cucurella go, they've got 3 left backs and Cucurella is at the bottom of that list, Poch prefers Maatsen to him.

Wonder if it will still be Dalot, and then Regulon floating around the bench as a back-up + there to start cup games.
