Sergio Reguilon | Man Utd Loan with January break clause

Cue the faux outrage as per usual. Decent player brought in as an emergency due to injuries. But Oh God No! We should have cloned a 25 year old Maldini and signed him instead.
Remember when Ferguson signed Andy Goram in an emergency? I do. And I can just imagine the reaction on here if it happened nowadays.
Get over yourselves anyone being negative just for the sake of being negative.

He’ll be first choice until Malacia/Shaw return and both are out of action for a while, Shaw moreso than Malacia. So no, he won’t be 3rd choice.
So we should get a 50m pound third choice option a week to the end of the transfer window?

Or should the club mismanage itself and go into administration or ffp bans because fans need a new shiny toy.

Literally, we are signing players due to early injuries, the load of which would not have been anticipated at once.

Mount, Hojlund and Onana haven't even had a chance to set up. Amad, Pellestri and Mainoo haven't even had a chance to integrate.

There are people crying about us not wanting to budge on price with Amrabat, yet complain constantly about us being taken for a ride. I get it, we aren't where we want to be, but the toxic narrative gotten by the press are built by some of the fans. It's really not helping, both for the club but for other fans too.

Fanbase has already written him off so at least there will be absolutely zero expectations. So anything positive he manages will be a bonus

Most of them?

Give a youth player a chance after a good spell or sign a complete reject of a player?

Garnacho got lots of minutes last year, Mainoo is clearly going to get minutes this year, and the club bought a 19 year old striker. There's no anti-youth agenda. If they don't want to go with Fernandez it's because they don't think he's ready for it.

I can’t believe that anyone is talking about United, of all the big clubs, as having an anti youth agenda. Probably one of, if not the, best big club at bringing through first team talent from the academy. If it hadn’t been for Greenwood being a bell end, we’d likely have fielded many times this year an all academy front three in Rashford, Greenwood and Garnacho. Tell me a single big club that can boast that.

Mainoo will get minutes this year. Plenty of them too I suspect.

If a you g player isn’t getting chances at United, it’s probably because they aren’t ready or good enough. What you g player has left us to go on and have a better career elsewhere in recent memory? And don’t say Angel Gomes, who three years after leaving us is doing okay at a mid table team in Europe’s fifth best league.

There’s a lot a pressure to succeed at United and you are never getting more than one or two youth talents breaking through into the first team picture per season. And that’s if you’re doing well. And unlike many other clubs, yes we are crap at selling our youth players, but that’s normally because we give them a fair shot at actually making it, rather than cashing in early before their true level has been realised.

Reguilon was great at Sevilla, bad at Spurs although I do remember a fairly good start for him.

Lots of posters wanted him before he went to Spurs, granted it's been a long time since then but it will be interesting to see if him playing in a more expansive system kick starts him again.

Obviously would rather it not have to happen but here he is and better that we have the back up on the cheap than no one at all. Low risk high reward type of deal.

Thought he was a baller before his move to Spurs. Factor in the break clause and this ain't half bad.

We were in the loan market for an LB because of an unexpected injury crisis at the position to our starter and backup LB. If we didn't sign 1 we'd have had 3 FBs in the squad, 1 whom who hasn't played any PL football.

It's all well and good to say give youth a chance, but ETH has watched him in preseason and training for extended time. If he doesn't think he's ready in case of emergency to just step in and deputize against Mo Salah, Buyako Saka, Phil Foden, Dejaj Kulusevski, etc. at the moment I don't see how that's some anti-youth agenda.

I get it, we've got a lot of things to address and get better at, from the squad, to management, to recruitment, and definitely to ownership! That said, this feels like a very reasonable choice in a tough, unexpected moment that gives us an out in January if things get back to where we expected them to be at the LB position.

We really don't need to act like every single thing the club does is bad or a disaster. There are many legitimate ones to pick from, I promise.

So no loan fee + break option in Jan. Since he is a Spurs player his wages won't be too high either. Not bad for emergency cover.

Also as per reports this deal will also help Amrabat deal which is good for us.

Not sure how good or bad he is, 3 years ago wanted him when he was one of the best LBs in la liga but then he is available on loan with Spurs desperate to offload, so logical assumption is he isn't good enough.

Why did we HAVE to send the player back in January though? Luke isn’t exactly on fire now and Malacia has missed pre season. Why not get the better left back on loan for the whole season, if it’s not a money issue?
The Reguillion loan has the best of both worlds. No loan fee and we can choose to keep him for the season or send him back in Jan. Plus lower wages.

Looks to be a very good move on paper.

However I would prefer that he had not brought in anyone and had played Fernandez as the primary lb with dalot as a deputy.

Fernandez might have stunk the place out as he doesn't have any experience.

But what experience helped with players like Dalot and Shaw being horrendous and letting Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Brentford, Brighton just play around with us and get cricket scores?

At least Fernandez would gain valuable playing time and we have a readymade excuse when we lose to the big guns this season.

Sergio coming here won't change these scores against the big teams anyway.

Becoming even more pessimistic than usual after the last couple of weeks. Hopefully Sergio becomes a champion player and we win something big.

OK everyone accepts he is proper shite, however maybe he will find one of those at 2.15 occasionally

With Mejbri, Mainoo and McT behind them

He's one of the most underwhelming players to have joined the club (as a potential starter) in my lifetime of watching United. At least some of the other failures were players that were either young, or foreign players untested (or inadequately) in the Premier League, or top players close to retirement but as a stop-gap solution, or just a thoughtful punt. Reguilon is none of that - nearly 27-year-old, played and failed miserably in the Premier League for years, and deemed incapable of starting even at a smaller club in England!

Very underwhelming, even if the plan is ultra short term!

OG incoming at Emirates then,he is definitely one of the most unwanted players but club think they know better than fans

I am absolutely delighted with this news. He's one of the most exciting players to have joined the club in my lifetime of watching United. He didn't look great at Spurs, but it's Spurs. They are shite and have been shite for years. Of course they didn't know what to do with him, they aren't used to having good players.

Delighted the club are being swift in bringing in a third string replacement rather than depending on an underwhelming young, or untested foreign player. This is not just a stop-gap solution, or a thoughtful punt, this guy is the real deal. Spurs fans were worried Real would be activating the buyback in his clause not too long ago! Reguilon is one of a kind - just 27-year-old, played at the highest level in the past until he went to spurs and is now looking to begin his career in the Premier League.

Very exciting, hope there is an option to make the deal permanent when he shows what he can do for a real team!

The only member of Reguilon FC in the entire fanbase or most likely complete sarcasm. The poor bloke doesn't realise how just unwanted he is

Spurs signed him from real!

Reguillon is a good player. Is he there for the long-haul, not sure. But we definitely need some cover and he can provide just that. He started out very well for Spurs but disappeared mid way through. Was a good player on the ball, defensively/tactically/physically found wanting at times. A decent player, nothing more.

That makes zero sense as a reply but glad to see you’re fine as your posts suggested otherwise.

You're back! Good to see you posting again. Picked a great time though to return with the start we have had to the season.

It is a decent deal for us. No fee and option to terminate the loan sounds great. And who knows... He might regain some of his previous merits.

We are a laughing stock of EPL. We passed on Cucurella, who fit us much better and arguably is better player, so we could have had January termination option, a ridiculous ask to begin with.

This is what United has become. If this doesn't make you feel dirty, you must not remember what this club used to be.

Common sense is not something you find here mate
