Don’t Madrid want a mandatory buy back clause?
What would you keep TFM as though? Just curious - he's definitely not a fullback. I honestly don't know what he is - comes across as a not-so-good CB who deputises as a not-so-good fullback
I have a feeling journalists make up stories based on cues from forums like ours. Can't be a coincidence that we have a long thread on how good would it be to sign him and suddenly there are rumours linking us with him. Either that or Ole gets his transfer ideas from here.

He can fill in at both full back positions defensively at least. I think that’s useful squad wise for another year so we can allow Laird to go on loan.

Definitely the former. It happens too often, a player who no one mentions all season has a good game against us and suddenly becomes a must sign.

I'd be happy with this signing, although I'll agree with those who don't want a buy back, I'd rather pay a little over the odds to avoid that. We'd essentially be developing Madrid's player for them and if he turned out to be any good they'd just take him back.

Williams hasn’t been a RB for like 4 years, and we have a better 19 year old RB in the squad than him anyway.
Not saying this is the case but maybe this could be Ole's version of when we faced Ronaldo in 2003,maybe the players have been talking about him
Yet he might be better on the right. I honestly can't recall him ever making 1 cross form the left. He literally has 12 crosses in 17 games while Shaw averages around 2 and Robertson has around 7.

Why? It surely isn't out of the realms of possibility that the club is actively looking at players to buy.
Seems plausible. Shaw's injury record just isn't good and we need better cover than Williams who should be back up at right back.

I don’t think it’s obvious at all - if it hadn’t of been for injury, Ethan Laird would have played a number of games at right back. I still see him as the alternative to AWB.
Williams has been playing left back since he was 14 (because of Laird) - it’s not a new position for him.

The idea that at 19 a right-footed player is set for life to play LB is crazy, and very unfair to him. He needs a chance a RB. Williams played at least one game at RB for the 1st team (away to LASK). Made 5 dribbles, dribbled past just once, earning an Opta match rating = 7.88.
Be that as it may, I believe Wan Bissaka to be a better full back than his City equivalents. Pep or no Pep.
Ok, I guess Pep has very specific needs. I do feel that Wan Bissaka is good enough to play on the biggest stage though.
His crossing ability in the final third is quite good and many felt it was much better than Chilwells in terms of accuracy when he was being talked about as a target for Chelsea. It's always mentioned as one of his main strengths along with his work rate and dribbling in most scouting reports from Spain.
Also it's not that he's necessarily worse than Mendy moreso that he wasn't that experienced in terms of first team action at the highest level prior to last season and Mendy had been a long term target of Zidane's who unsurprisingly might be a little partial towards French talent.
For the quoted fee of 25-30m for his quality, he's easily the best LB option we could find this summer value wise
AWB won't. Peps probably values on the ball ability higher than crossing and defending. He wants them to fill a midfield role when the midfielders bomb forward. Hence why delph and zinchenko who used to be a midfielder himself were deemed good enough by Pep.

That’s a fair point, he isn’t bounded for life to the left. But at the same time, he hasn’t yet shown any promise on the right, and given another who is of similar age HAS done - I see little justification for having Williams as back up right back over our actual young right back. Unless you want the 15 odd first team games that separate them to be held over their heads for ever.
Laird was injured for a massive part of the season and missed all the work with the first team. By time the restart came around, everything was must win. Using Williams was more about a bench option who is versatile and match fit.
There is no way Ole is planning on moving Williams to right back.

I would love Laird to make it but he feels like yet another young Manchester United defender who won't hit the heights he should for us due to injury. And it would be a real shame because I think talent wise he's up there towards the Jonny Evans level (albeit with a different skillset of course).

He has shown plenty of promise and so far has proved himself more than Laird at the top level. To say he has not shown 'any' promise is ridiculous. The few times he played on the right he looked very good. Laird may be considered the bigger talent, but talent is irrelevant if they can't perform at the top level. Laird first needs to get over his injury problems, and there is every chance that Williams could end up a better player than him. There are plenty of touted 'wonderkids' who failed for various reasons, and for now Williams is rightfully ahead of Laird.

I said he hasn’t shown any promise on the right. He’s been a left back. And Laird has always been better than Williams, and the fact that out of sheer circumstance, Williams got picked first and has played a few games in the first team doesn’t change the whole trajectory of their careers. Williams isn’t ‘seasoned’ or anything - the games Williams has over him could be caught up by December in similar circumstances.
Ultimately, my point is I don’t think the club should be making long-term plans to have the youth left back ahead of the youth right back, at right back, based on 6 months difference in when they got their start.
He hasn't proven himself at all, he's played some senior games, he looked very shaky in a number of them. That, to me, is not "proving himself" at all, if anything it proves he's not ready. He's shown flashes of promise, but he's playing within himself, I'm actually concerned we've dented his confidence with the quantity of football he's had to play. He was out of his depth in the latter stages of the EL and we're in a much harder competition than that next season. He's still rash and erratic. He could do with a loan if we're being honest.
Laird also hasn't even been given a chance to prove himself. If you want to look at someone who has proven themself look no further than Greenwood. Also, Williams was not any better on the right than left, he played to the same level on both sides, I don't know where this talk of him being so much better on the right has come from.
He would be an excellent signing imo. Very quick, good on the ball, and can deliver good low driven crosses. I'd be excited if this happens.
How actually does the buy back option work? Can Real buy him back any time they want and do they just pay want we bought him for?
Very good in attack from what I’ve seen but what’s he like defensively?
