Sergio Ramos

What's the idea of getting an intentional yellow card? Why not just sit on the bench instead and give the coach the option of taking you on if desperately required?
It gets his yellow card counter back to 0 and they get resetted again after completion of the QF.
So missing the game now would make it impossible to miss out any QF or SF game due to yellow card suspension.

This is so stupid, he basically admitted he broke the rule and will probably end up getting a 2 match suspension now. They’ve been really strict with this rule, happened with Porto’s Corona a few days ago.

Would be hilarious if Ajax ended up knocking them out though

Hopefully he gets a two match ban and Ajax knock them out. He’ll miss the first game of the CL next year as well for his stunt.

Of course UEFA would never let Ajax knock them out, but you know, we can all dream right

Those who say Ramos isn't a top CB and can't defend watch the game vs Ajax. At times it was Ajax vs Ramos. And Ramos won. Him and Pique are amazing in big games for their clubs.

*raises hand*

He was excellent against Ajax. Now, hands on heart, is that the typical Ramos performance?

Ramos in a big match almost always plays like this. Maybe he doesn't have to save his team as many times as yesertday because has help from the other CB and his teammates (yesterday it was only him vs Ajax attack).

The criticism can be against lower teams in la liga, (specially at the begining in the season) he can lose focus and do the offside trap wrong (his most common mistake), or a raw challenge that is his second yellow card. And in the last years it's more rare than this happens.

He plays on the brink of disaster, some of his cuts yesterday like the one he clears with a scissor kick can turn bad, on a great game, and suddenly it costs a goal and your 10 performance now is a 3 or a 4.

When things go his way yeah, he's great, when he's 20cm short, or 1 second late, it can mean disaster for Real Madrid. I'd like someone with a more consistent style for my team. Yeah I'm a Barcelona fan but I've had to put up with his nonsense in the NT too.

He was great yesterday. As mentioned, he is a player who grows when the team need him and the man for bigger matches. Not stupid to take a yellow card, players do all the time, but stupid to admit it.

However that ridiculous rule must be changed. In a domestic league it serves some kind of purpose maybe, but I don’t like it in cups like CL or WC. The referees set so different levels in different matches so it becomes so random who gets suspended.

You prefer consistent style, I would prefer consistently winning Champions League.

Ramos has always been overrated. Funny thing is, I thought players were supposed to get better/smarter with age. He just seems to get worse and worse. I don't think I have ever seen a "world class" central defender who is caught out of position more frequently than him. So glad he never came to United like he was rumoured to a couple years ago...

That's a team effort, not Ramos titanically raising the team. If you look at RM's league runs, or even the NT last competitions (14' WC, 16' EC and 18' WC) you'll see him being a negative factor on our defense.

Can't believe Ramos is still questioned. Captain of the greatest european club side of the modern era.

4 CL medals including 3 in a row, no team even did two before in the CL era.Has won everything with Spain,161 caps too.

One of the greatest defenders of all time without any doubt. Also pretty good at pens so far this season!

Thanks to Ronaldo.

That's like saying Barça won the UCL in 2006, 2009 and 2011 thanks to Puyol.

I know some people like trolling at times, but saying wrong things on purpose should have a limit somewhere.

Except Ronaldo was a non-entity in most finals - against Atletico Madrid it was Ramos twice who saved their bacon. Also, he was the key player against Liverpool by neutralizing Salah and arguably Karius. Monster of a player, he's a really the greatest CB around over the last 4-5 years.

Yeah, Smalling, Jones, Bailly and Lindeloff are a class above him.

Wow,...

He was a monster last night. Despite Ajax dominating the middle of the park, they didn't translate that into goals. Ramos cut every lane, was first to every dangerous ball and was calm in possession.

I was curious to see how he'd do without Varane as Nacho can be a bit of an idiot - but Ramos passed the test with flying colors. Complete CB performance.

Pique is also very good.

THIS.

Ramos decided 2 of the 4 finals by scoring goals (both against Atletico). He also scored the first two goals against Bayern in the semis. Crazy.

Also didn't he score 2 goals in the semifinal against Bayern in Munchen? He scored the first 2 crucial goals there basically deciding the tie.

Ramos and Pique will be remembered much more fondly in 20 years from now, when people forget about mistakes in irrelevant league games and instead focus on their incredible trophy cabinets and big game performances.

Don’t need to wait 20 years for Ramos. He’s the best defender of his generation.
