 brilliant

I'd say £42,5m (€60m) is a tad excessive for Ramos, but feck that, buy him and refuse to sell De Gea to these feckers. It's about time they get a taste of their own medicine. So far it's only AS reporting it, so I'm not sure if we'd indeed go past £40m.

So true. Considering they robbed us over ADM.

Seems like things are real hotting up.

Ramos, Schniederlin, Schweinsteiger, Coleman.

I love Woody! Guy is a baller.

Let's give him props when he actually delivers. I would love it but don't believe we are getting Ramos. If we get the rest Woody would have had a good summer.

either one of benzema or cavani

even if perez finally bows down to ramos, we are still able to use this saga as an leverage to force him to transfer benzema in return for ddg. if perez bows down to ramos and is not able to get ddg, he's a total loser in this summer and we are relaxed
Benzema and Ramos or two different cases,Benzema had no intention to join us but in Ramos case, there is some intention else we wouldn't be after him.Real right now under pressure to sell him and get DDG and we are using it to our advantage.

if perez decides for damage control and losing ramos is not an option plus recognizing the only way out in swift and sweet is to sell us benzema, what he needs to do is just to summon the benzema crew and tell them it's all over, he needs to go to united and that is. i don't see benzema has anywhere to go unless he wants to go back paris to collect his early pension. it sounds cruel but that's the current state of the football world.

giggs just giving out an interview to talk about benzema. obviously we are stepping it up.

don't want to derail this thread so that is about benzema (or any other strikers) here

De Gea paper talks have taken a backseat to the Ramos saga. Intentional move by us?

For sure. We flush out the price of Ramos and if it goes according to plan, we buy him. This way we also know that they have that amount of money to spend. Then we extract back as much as possible for DVG.

The DVG situation just puts us in a defensive action. Now with Ramos, we can be more aggressive about pursuing or attacking the situation.

Its like losing 0-1 at Anfield but scoring the equaliser at the 89th minute. Feels like a victory instead.... in the short run at least.

Of all the random transfers that could potentially happen, I feel this is one that will never materialise. I thought ADM was a random one but Ramos to United just doesn't seem to be anything more than a contract stance.
I'd happily wager that we won't get Ramos, or any other RM player this window, and DDG will join them for around £25m.

Same feeling here. Ramos deal is probably the least likely to happen. He's already a legend at Madrid.

We are better off looking elsewhere because the financial outlay needed here is impossible to justify. Paying a penny above £35m for him wil be silly and will, to borrow a phrase from another poster, prove that we are being run by idiots.
I feel that our defence was finding it's feet from January onwards and we just need that one WC/very good defender to settle some nerves and replace Evans. Spending a king's ransom on Ramos isn't necessary at all.

I would pay 40m for him, or alternatively De Gea + 15m.

But i doubt that would be enough, and if the alternative is Otamendi, i d rather we go for him. He would be there for pre season, while the Ramos situation will drag on.

Otamendi's at the Copa America so he won't play any part in pre-season unless he forgoes a holiday.

Seriously Ramos should be número uno and Otamendi as back up.

Ramos will start our attacks from the back, his passing out from the back is top class and with our style of football that is what we need.

I expect him to play a role or to be on the Tour at some point. Even if he takes a 2 week holiday, he should be there at the end of July.

You need a defender first and foremost. If you fix your midfield which it sounds like you're in the market to do then the rest should take care of itself.

Could this be a cantona moment? Leeds call about 1 of our players and we end up stealing theirs. They call about DDG and we leave with Ramos. Tell them to get fecked over DDG
Was the comparison that entered my head as soon as our interest in Ramos was confirmed as legitimate.

Even though it would be great to have him here, he should cost 50 million euro's at the absolute absolute max. If Real want to play hard-ball, just go for another defender and keep ddg. Ddg for a year is far more valuable than 15 million pounds. As he could be the difference between a trophy or not.

He is a defender, and a good one at that. His ability on the ball is a precious bonus.

I imagine the main reasons we are keeping going with this one is that it pisses Madrid off and LvG will prefer Ramos on the ball abilities to Otamendi.

City rumoured to be ready to sneak in and nick Ramos from under our noses while we're vying with RM to see who's got the biggest dick.

Nothing City can offer Ramos that United can't. His dad was a United fan, and he talks about us, not our neighbours. On a personal note he would surely prefer us over them.

From Real's point of view, we hold De Gea as the bargaining chip. If they sell us Ramos, they know their chances of getting big Dave go up. Unless all they want to piss us off or involve Aguero in the deal, they wouldn't sell to City.

Nothing to worry about right now, in my opinion.

As much as i'd love Ramos here, don't think this is anything more than us trying to unsettle Madrid and putting them off going after DDG.

I really like Ramos and although 29 he could still have 4/5 fantastic seasons with us. We need leaders in our team and he'll no doubt give our back four some stability. I think i saw he had a 90% pass sucess rate last season. Oh and the other thing we have too many pussy's in our team. Apart from Fellaini, Smalling, and Rooney who else can you name in our squad that is up for a physical battle?

Jones (to his own detriment), Valencia, Herrera...

Valencia is a tank. Jones as well. Rvp definitely although he seems weary.

 surely any deal involving Evans would also require more Euros from us!

Yeah, it's like when you have a 40mil bid accepted and we try and sneak in a last minute 40mil + Evans through only for Real to notice it and demand 10mil more if Evans is added.

Bless, poor Evans.

On a more serious note hasn't Ramos said he wants his future sorted before their tour, hopefully we see a concrete yes or no before both teams fly off in approx 2 weeks.
