Sergej Milinkovic Savic

Scattergun approach again this summer, how difficult is it to settle on targets early in the year?
It's because we have Woodward and his minions deciding what the footballing strategy should be.

They obviously don't bother much with it during season and wait until the very last moment, whilst most top teams have already been negotiating with their targets and are just closing up the deals when the transfer window opens.

More click bait nonsense from sky they can literally say we are preparing bids for every player possible whilst providing no sources to substantiate the claim. Actually surprised we haven't been preparing a bid for neymar as a swap for Pogba

Now this is a signing I could really get behind.

We obviously need to improve our CDM position however a midfield with:

Matic
SMS Bruno Fernandez

could be quite tasty..

He has good leadership qualities about him and at that right age wanting to make a big move + we have a lot of boys in our team (lingard, rashford, james, shaw, fred..) it would be nice to have some leaders/men in the team who wont take messing around on a daily basis.

Lets do this.

I think we are being priced out of our first choice targets, and our second and third in some cases
Agreed, clubs know we're a bit desperate so can ask whatever they like from us and in a lot of cases they don't seem to need to sell their players either.

Still probably a fair comment, have you been impressed with our transfer business?
As in, who we've bought? Yeah I'm happy with that. We could still do with another 3 or 4 players but 6 in one summer is a huge amount. We'll see at the end of the summer. For what it's worth, I don't believe we're in for this lad, and it's just the papers regurgitating last years stories after Raiola said Pogba wants out. Easy headline, and generates conversation.

IF you believe the press then sure, but who's to say we don't settle for 1 particular target?

Sometimes we feed the press with info to scare other clubs into talking, others are completely made up for clicks.

I'd say James/AWB were targets we "stuck" too, i'd say Maguire is also but they're playing hard ball with the price.

We don't know if Fernandes/Longstaff are real targets or not, or whether we are having to pursue other 2nd/3rd option targets.

Best thing to do is just relax and take every rumour with a pinch of salt, lets assess it when the window closes.

I think he'd be an absolute disaster in the PL. Big slow brute of a player.

Absolutely. But I can't make myself do it while we have such a gaping hole where we should have a midfield.

McTominay Matic Fred Pogba Pereira Gomes Garner. I wouldn’t say gaping whole at this point, more of a question of how and how fast it will improve.
Both Pogba and Matic may be on their way. But Ole said at start of season that we need 2 midfielders anyway.

I get that, but stressing about it won't change anything :)

Ole has his head screwed on, he knows what the team needs. I don't think Woodward is as stupid and bullish as people think he is, if Ole needs a player i'm sure he will push it through if required.

His job at the end of the day is to get the player for the best price possible, getting him a month or so early for 15-20m extra is just not feasible.

Ole made the mistake of going public by saying he wants all his business done by the start of pre season, realistically it was never going to happen and it's made fans panic.

Looked a superstar in the season before last but was really underwhelming this last one. 80M price tags right now seems really steep.

Big slow midfielder, can come up with a goal or two, hmmm didn't we use to have one of them?

I'm not someone who likes to slate players. I'm an optimist but this is my honest assessment of our current midfield options.

Matic: Past it. Looked off the pace all last season. Hard to expect anything better this season.
Fred: Has some decent games but overall doesn't really look up to it at all (at least not consistently which is what we need)
Pereira: Bad player. Was very poor when he played last season. One admittedly terrific goal doesn't change that.
Gomes: Extremely talented unique player but completely unproven at this level. Might do well, might struggle and not be used much. Impossible to tell right now
Garner: 17 years old and probably a couple of years away from being ready.

That leaves:
McTomminay: Just about scraping the level required right now. But improving so I'm optimistic that he'll get there
Pogba: Great player but trying to leave

If you think that's anything near enough to go into next season you are extremely naive. We need 2 CMs. I'd argue there is room to bring in 3.

I'm desperately awaiting a decent CM signing. We are fecked if it doesn't happen. But agree that it's totally wrong to bitch and moan right now because there is still plenty of time. If they have to wait until the end of the month to get the right players I'm fine with it. As long as they get them. Not sure why people are throwing their toys around in early July to be totally honest.

Well according to this article his average speed in that of 7.9km/h. He's no Bolt but he's faster then Milner (2018), 7.69km/hr, Fellaini 7.19km/hr, Carrick (16/17) and Matic who are at 7.4km/h

There's no dynamism though and he doesn't compensate for it with a range of passing or any huge amount of quality. Anytime I've watched him he just lumbers around and coughs up possession really cheaply. I could see him really struggle in a league as fast paced as the PL where he will constantly be pressed.

Why did he win Serie A midfielder of the year this year if he was as poor as everyone is saying?

because he is not as bad as made out on here and most that say they watched him probably only saw him a couple of times . he was brilliant the year before but last year Lazio weren't as good . he is a very good player whether he would be able to do it in the PL remains to be seen

He covers alot of pitch 11.9km. His passing need improvement though

Scored a good few goals that season. In Italy you get more time on the ball which hides his deficiencies imo. Bakayoko has quite a good season for Milan for similar reasons.

Only time I have ever seen him was in the World Cup and he was very poor, bar that don't think I have ever seen him.

Juve have been sniffing around him all summer so he must be half decent but if he is a lazy and laboured as what people are suggesting, the thought of him, Matic and Fernandes would be extremely easy to bypass.

Going to be interesting to see how we set up against Chelsea in a few weeks time.

Standards are at an all time low if fans think this midfield is anywhere near good enough

We have absolutely no idea if this is true or just paper talk.

Precisely, as the caf proves if you link any player with United you generate activity, clicks and debate.

Realistically, I know we all slate Woodward but they know what they are doing when it comes to the commercial and transfer side. I think as fans we need to wise up a bit that every player and his agent will be taking us for a ride this summer, trying to get paid stupid wages & their clubs will be holding out for stupid fees knowing how desperate we are. We act as if our transfer dealing are inept and all these players want to come to us whereas in truth we are not currently a big draw for top players and are a tried and tested way to leverage better deal elsewhere (see Ramos, Godin etc).

I'd say our most important piece of business is to offload Sanchez now, we do need more signings but he's been a huge factor in all our contract renewal issues & is the reference point for agents when they are assessing what kind of wages their clients can get. With him out, I feel we have a lot more power with negotiations.

Glad your not in charge of our transfers. This guy would be an instant upgrade on what we have - if Pogba goes. He’s better than Fred, he’s better than Matic, he’s better than McTominay. Why wouldn’t you take him? 6ft 3 man mountain who can play as well. I guarantee he will come without a flipping circus. He’s at the perfect age to come straight into the team. I don’t flashy players at United anymore. I want players that actually want to work. Which I find really hard to find with all the crazy money in the game. The talent is there.

Nearly every report I read about Savic the common thing said is about his ability as a complete midfielder and as I have stated before I am really impressed that he seems to be able to do everything well.
The question mark for me is whether he can handle the pace of the Premier League and the pressing game but I think he can as he has great technique and more importantly he is quick between the ears so I would love to see him at our club.

And I'm glad you're not in charge if 6'3 man mountain who isnt flashy is your criteria.
