I'd rather sign Rabiot then fill out squad with players who will struggle in deeper areas. But if you want a number for the sake of it, 30 million. feck spending big on players we dont need.

That's my understanding. Maybe not as attacking as Bruno but still someone who "makes things happen" rather than helps the collective.
We need players who can improve the buildup /playmaking in deep areas, and screen the defence.

He is there to replace Fred and McT. Eriksen can’t play every game due to his heart condition. Bruno can’t play every game cause he disappears in most games he plays. SMS is a very good alternative to what we are trying to do which is play out from the back. SMS can be blended in so he can acclimate to the pace of the premier league.
Why? Eriksen and Bruno can make things happen. We need an engine. Defensive cover. Precise passing. Quality retention of the ball.
In possession, McTominay plays so high up he's almost a #10. Savic would be infinitely better in the role.

In McTominay's role he'd be quite good, I think. He's not the attacking midfielder from years ago, plays more centrally now.

Rabiot is ETHs pick. I don't think anyone has actually linked us to SMS, and honestly we need a solid CM which he is.
Presumably if he came he'd play in one of what are effectively two #8 roles we have in our current set-up? Where we currently have Bruno, Eriksen, McTominay and VDB as options, as well as possibly Fred if a different #6 signs.

Rabiot I agree is a player who wouldn’t improve us. But SMS is on another level when compared to the dross we’ve been linked over the past few days. I would happily take him to play CM.
Every player dreams of playing for the Spanish giants. That isn’t a concern. He is already 27. Madrid will go and get the next big thing.
If we get SMS, Rabiot and Gakpo, that would be a pretty decent window then.
Maybe after years of “monitoring” and “weighing up” the club have finally decided to move for him.
