He was fortunate to be at a club that was all about giving young players a chance. I doubt a teenage Carrick would be in our first team now.

Goss like loads of others is a victim of the inadequate system we have for young players.

I can't believe sometimes how neglectful the English system is. With all the money sloshing around you'd think it would be better.
 
If our scout and manger feel he is worth a shot then he will get his chance. If they feel he is not worth , still they will help him to make out a fruitful football career . I go with our staff/managers view on this since they got it right most of the cases .

Its not just Goss. We have so many quality young players ( not just at united , there are some real wonder kids at other clubs too ) who I feel like have a chance of making it here .

I agree there are massive flaws in the system but Goss is more a victim of injuries than any flaws in the system. He's only played around 25 games across the past 3 seasons because of his injuries

True but even with a normal amount of injuries he would only have made another 30 appearances (give or take). I don't think that number of games missed will define his time at United.

I don't think any player 21 or above should be in the U23 team. They should be playing competitive football somewhere in front of proper crowds.

Spot on. There are so many wankers at the FA wittering on about quotas and such without ever addressing the biggest problem in English football: the gap between 16 to 20. There are some cracking young footballers in academies all over the country that get to the age of 16/17/18 and fall off a cliff because they've barely had a kick of professional football. This then continues until the player reaches 21 or 22 years old, having played about ten competitive football matches on an inherently flawed three month loan, only to have missed out on the most crucial age of development.

18 year olds footballers should be playing regular football at an appropriate level. I look at Axel Tuanzebe right now and the entirety of this season so far has been a complete waste of his time, and he's not the only one. I'll not even start on U21 set up in England.

What frustrates me is that the U23 league could be decent if EPL teams let/made their squad players get involved. Rather than just doing nothing like Depay and Schneiderlin.

If Goss was up against a Premier League midfielder every other week we'd now have a much better idea of his chances here.
 
This guy is steadily making the progress in the reserves team. One for the future, if he stays fit.

At his age he kind of needs to be the here and now unfortunately. Time is running out on him, definitely talented though.
 
I kinda hope he will move permanently tbh. Jose isn't gonna give him chance and he actually still have a lot of development going since he was injured a lot in the last 3 years (plus been out for most of his first year U18s). He'll end up in the PL soon enough.

He'll end up a David Jones type player, elegant but not quite good enough for us, hopefully he improves immensely and he comes back here cos his style of play would suit us.
 
We should do buyback clauses more. Is there a reason not to? Drinkwater left for a mil or so (reportedly) in January 2012 and by January 2016, it was clear he was good enough to be cover here as a DM backing up Carrick. We could surely have vultured him back from Leicester for a reasonable clause, even if it cost us 2 or 3 hundred K up front.

Bit harder to offload players over here when you insert buy-back clauses. Would be great to have though.
 
My biggest tiff with the England Under age set up is they refuse to set up the reserve leagues to have game time as regularly as the senior EPL. I believe its a good part of why so many talented young players get to first team football without the imbedded level of tactical and technical understanding to truly fulfill their potential. Its wrong for clubs to have to rely on the loan system heavily to develop players. I mean, why should another club have to properly develop a player who will never be theirs?
 
According to Sky (stating West London Sport) QPR's offer has been accepted. Presuming this means a permanent transfer?..
 
If it's permanent, I would hope we have buy-back clause. Wouldn't make any sense not to.

That means if Goss moves to QPR for £500,000, City would be entitled to five per cent of £375,000.

Wow thought we might loan him but to straight out sell him with no prior loans obviously mean the staff don't rate him. Which is weird as the Caf rated him as one of the best in the U23s. I wouldn't be surprised if no one from the current reserves made it here.

It might be a case of 'not standing in his way' rather than being forced out. He's a quality player, I'm sure if heswa success he'd be willing to return to the club.

I can understand his decision to leave, we have Pogba and Herrera who are both playing at a very high standard, Carrick is likely to be replaced with a big money signing in the summer and Pereira will probably be used on a rotational basis next season. It'll be a tough order to get enough game time to consolidate his position in the team as a starter.

It doesnt mean that at all. Its a possible reason but we dont know the reasons why. There is the possibility that he is now at an age where he feels he needs to be playing senior football and that he doesnt see any immediate opportunities for him at Utd. There is a possibility that its his decision.

It is his decision. His contract is up in the summer and United wanted him to sign a new deal and go on loan but he wants to get his career started after missing so much time with injuries and it's hard to blame him for being ambitious if he doesn't see a route to the first team here

I'd very surprised if afforded the opportunity one of Tuanzebe and Williams don't make it.

Personally think he is a bit overrated by some on here. I think being injured for so long people have just assumed he is better than he is because he got to go on the tour a couple years ago. Personally don't see him as a special talent with the likes of Tuanzebe, Andreas, Adnan etc. Don't think he is any better of a talent than Harrop, Riley, Poole, CBJ, or Demi. Then there is the whole host of talent in the u18s. Nor would I say he is better than Pearson or Rothwell before him.

I think Tuanzebe has a good chance. Jose will probably ease him in next season

Looking at how few opportunities tbat TFM has had and that we bought Bailly and may well buy another CB, and still have Rojones and Smalling, then I can't see a CB getting an opportunity. At LB we will most likely buy one this Summer and still have CBJ even if Shaw and Darmian are sold, so don't see a path for Riley either. The other two similarly don't stand a chance.

Goss will have much better career than Rothwell, Harrop and Poole. Personally see him as future PL regular along with Pearson, Riley, Mitchell, CBJ.

For the question below, Gribbin is a future top 6 PL player if he keeps on progressing well. Same with Tuanzebe. Willock might sneak it to the PL if he's lucky.
