Scottish Football 2024/25

Saved their best for the Europa League and Ruben and co will be hoping that run doesn't change when Rangers turn up to Old Trafford for their cup final ;)
Love your optimism buddy. We could do with going into that game with a couple of wins though to gain momentum.

Bad day at the office. I've been saying it for a while, we looked a shattered team. Today wasn't totally unexpected. If we are going to be battered, then happening when we are well clear in league is about the least worse time for it to happen.

Rumours Kieran Tierney return done deal in Jan. Be a great signing if we can keep him fit. At SPL level, he is a top, top player.

Congrats to Rangers today, fully deserved. No complaints but this result whilst very painful, won't matter if we win league.

Man Utd lost at Anfield plenty of times but almost always ended up winning league under Ferguson.

The test for Rangers in repeating this level of performance and the bigger test is trying to beat teams away from home who defend in a low block. They badly struggle to beat teams who defend in a low block.

Is that a loan till end of the season or a permanent transfer? Great signing indeed if you can keep him fit as you said. Massive upgrade on Taylor who I don’t rate one bit. He’s always been found out whenever he has played for Scotland when both Robertson & Tierney are not playing.

Fans who threw object at Arme Engels is caught bang to rights on camera

Permanent mate. He is out of contract with Arsenal this coming Summer so fee would be minimal.

Oh wow, very good signing indeed then. Just hope you guys can keep him fit. Would be an massive upgrade on what you already have in that position.

Absolutely mate.

It looks a done deal. Signing On loan this month for rest of season and signing a 3 year pre contract deal.

Great business. He is taking a substantial reduction in wages.

Brilliant Sunday lunchtime game to watch today between my local team Hibs & Rangers finishing 3-3. Glad that David Gray has turned it around. Players are playing for him. Needs a good transfer window and who knows a late push for a European place could be on the cards when 2-3 months ago, it felt like we were going to be in a relegation scrap with our neighbours Hearts.

This thread hasn’t aged too well, from the OP statement to those who believed in Clement.

The win last Thursday and the Euro performances have glossed over a poor side. The ‘worst manager’ ever according to a gers caller on talksport this morning. A big claim. Notwithstanding Beale, Caixhina and Le Guen.

To be 15 points behind in January must be unpalatable.

I've said it before, FSR is an absolute disaster for Rangers. They literally can't accumulate huge debt year on year anymore, like they have done for last 12 years. They are kind of screwed.

They have to live with their means.

We may lose the odd league ( through sheer complacency ) but I'd be absolutely amazed if we don't win at least 8 of the next 10 leagues.

Structurally and financially, we are a billion miles ahead of Rangers.

I read a rumour that rangers were looking for a deal to bring Johnny Evans in

If they could get someone of that ilk in even short term, it would help alleviate some of the defensive injury woes.

But in general , their recruitment has not been good enough.

They really miss a McCoist/Boyd/Negro type of forward who can bang the chances away when they get a chance as it takes the pressure off

Just had a proper look at the table for the first time in a while. What the feck happened to Aberdeen? Incredible capitulation.

Have they had injuries or what? It looks like they've got about 3 points in two months

Absolutely no idea tbh. Their new manager got off to a pretty wild start, winning he first 11 or 12 games (or something along those lines). I guess they have probably just reverted to type.

Aberdeen started well and barely missed any chances for the first quarter of the season. It wasn't sustainable though as their xg showed. They're in the bottom half for xg so no surprise they are dropping to the middle of the table.

Hibs were the opposite. Hacking about at the bottom of the table, but now they've started taking their chances they have climbed up to mid-table.

Aberdeen are bringing in some quality in the window though as they have a decent kitty from the Miovski monies.

We won 2-0 away to Clyde tonight. I didn’t even know that we were playing today until I got a notification from the Alexa app on my phone.

It's early days but Igamane looks like he can become that player. 9 goals in his last 10 league games, 4 in 4 in Europa League, he's one to keep an eye on.

It's the defence that's let Rangers down, they miss big Souttar and could do with getting 1 or 2 in that can deal with the tough away games just to make them more solid.

Their home record is as good as Celtics, but the away record is shocking, too many not used to the rough and tumble of a winters night at St Mirren and the likes.

I'm on my way back from Dundee, we smashed them 6-0. Can't remember ever scoring that many away from home before. What a day.
Scotland beat Italy, so just need United to win tomorrow for the hat trick.

Rangers out the Scottish Cup which surely means the end of Clement. The late penalty decision is an utter farce as well.

If ever you want to confirm whether big teams are favoured then take a look at it. Utterly bizarre.

Forget the Liverpool result, this is the shock of the weekend. Queens Park only had just one shot the whole game with and it was the goal.

I agree that penalty decision was a farce but what do you expect when it’s Rangers involved - it’s more surprising how it came so late on. Glad justice was done though.

The Europa League is Clement’s only saving grace that’s prevented him from getting the sack already and I won’t be surprised if he’s still in the job despite this result.

You are correct Europa is saving him but they are totally skint, not sure they can afford to sack him. They posted about a 15 to 20 million loss in last set of accounts. Unless they put him on gardening leave, that may be a way around it. There has never been a bigger financial gap in Scottish football. Its like Fulham trying to compete with Man City, financially.

Of course, Celtic could spend big money on 3 or 4 duds and Rangers could spend small money on 3 or 4 gems but all things being equal Celtic will dominate for a long time.

Gotta hope Celtic somehow crash out now too. Scottish cup was the last bastion of hope for other Scottish teams success until fairly recently.

In a cup game, anything can happen. If we are drawn away to hearts, hibs or Aberdeen, it will be very tough.

I certainly see it as a foregone conclusion we will ein cup. If we get drawn at home in 1/4 finals, we will very likely win and then semis at Hampden, we will be fans but it's certainly not a given we will win the cup.

Out of curiosity, what team do you support?

I’m a Hibs fan and I wouldn’t want to play you home or most certainly away. I am hoping it’s someone else that shocks you out of the cup but personally like you said, it looks like a foregone conclusion that Celtic will complete the domestic treble again this year.

Hibs are going well. Really picked up under Gray. Hopefully get top 6. Be tough but not impossible. I hope yee get it.

Scottish football needs a strong Hibs / hearts / Aberdeen.

I dunno mate, Rangers have received a single penalty in the league all season, which puts them bottom of the table (Ross County have received 8 for example). For me the defender's got wrong side and bundled into the back of him - and where the referee was standing he saw that in full view. For the goal it was never a corner for Queens' Park either. But irregardless we should be so far out of sight that we should not have to rely on either of those decisions. And well done to Queens Park, really well organised, the keeper played a blinder, and in a lot of ways they didn't deserve to have their fate decided by a late penalty.

These games show the poor squad building we've had. Serious lack of pace in the team makes it easier to defend against. The right flank when Cerny and Tavernier are together does not function well against a low block as they both drop into the deeper inside-right space. Ideally they should complement each other. Same patterns all season. The manager doesn't always help himself but I'm not sure what fit alternatives there are in the squad.

I dont really have a horse in the race! The region of Scotland I’m from is mostly amateur club stuff with the odd side making it to the low levels of the pro game!

Ah fair enough. I assumed you may support one of the bigger sides in SPL.

Cup draw this evening.

All any fan wants is a home draw.

Celtic v Bayern on Wednesday in champs league. Just want to see us put a decent performance.

Hopefully it's a close game.

Obviously Bayern will hammer away from home but am hopeful we can give them a decent game on Wednesday.
