Still limited in his passing, but I thought he had some really good touches in tight spaces yesterday. Hadn't seen a lot of that from him before.

He would thrive in a midfield 3 where he just have to runs and explode opposition players. But he really lacks the creativity to improve his game.

But I thought he was very solid yesterday.

He will be needed at Leipzig

Turns 24 next week. Seems implausible to me he won't be here backing up the #6 we have to buy to replace Matic as soon as 4 weeks from now and as late as this summer. Improved enough and has a skillset that's very useful to the point that he's got a place in the squad. Midfield post-Pogba should obviously be that #6 backed up by McTominay then Fred and Van De Beek rotating as the #8 and Van De Beek getting 10-15 games a year to go from 25-30 starts to a full time 35-45 type number as a #10 backing up Bruno (who you figure starts like 40-45 out of 55 games a year). If the Pogba thing shockingly comes good (and stranger things have happened) that complicates things, otherwise those 5 and maybe you bring back Garner as the #6 guy or it's Pellistri since his best qualities seem to be shielding and passing it and we do have Greenwood and Diallo and even Rashford on the right.

Basically the role in the squad played by Ambrosini at Milan, who you always felt was a downgrade from Seedorf, Pirlo and Gattuso but was obviously annoying to play against and linked play and gave you a 2nd defensive presence in midfield along with whoever he was alongside, didn't embarrass himself as a loan #6 or as a #8 trying to provide some physicality and not without a bit of a goal threat or at least a certain thrust going forward.

The ball deflects from one side to his other, I don’t think anyone would have made Neymar given that.

Your general views on him may be fair enough, but I feel you let them colour how you saw this particular game too much. If I were a betting man, I’d bet if you rewatched the match with focus on Scott, you’d give him at least an 8 out of 10.

well I gave him 6 out of 10 which was as high as anyone else in this game, I think if you look back he had a game of two halves to use a cliché, he was decent in the 2nd half but poor in the 1st other than ruffling Neymar's feathers.

Even his first half failings are slightly excusable, you can get quite shocked as a player coming up against Neymar, Mbappe and Verratti, he was overwhelmed by their speed of passing. But he settled into the game and then started stamping his authority on midfield. I still don’t like him as our starting midfielder going forward, but I’m never against him being in the team sheet.

He's had a few games against that lot now. Never looks overwhelmed

Scott vs PSG in numbers:
  • highest number of dribbles (4) and highest % of succesful dribbles (100%)
  • 89% passing accuracy
  • 0 miscontrols, 1x dispossessed
  • highest number of tackles won (3) and Interceptions (3)
  • second highest number of pressures (30, 1st was Bruno 31)
  • 1 shot on target from the corner (1/1 aerials won)
Looking forward to see him paired with Donny.

1. Firstly, it's the other way around, Fletcher is shit for not having any skills nor technical abilities, just relying on high energy, combative grit and "nationality" to get Fergie's favors to play, or so those were the popular narrative back then. Seriously when does this technical superiority started? Fletcher relied a lot on physical attributes even if he don't have the strength, he got the energy.

Fletcher was actually very good technically. Watch his goal away at Charlton in 06.

You don’t play for Man United in midfield under SAF for as many years as he did if you aren’t more than capable on the ball.

Great player and a wonderful servant to the club, and I hope McTom will be too.

No fans wanted Fletcher to feature at all. Except very small voices maybe. Fans were very happy once we got Hargreaves because finally Fletcher won't play.

A LOT of fans liked Fletcher, and appreciated his contributions to the squad and his importance in the big games especially.

McTominay has been mainly good for us so surprised to see such a backlash to his performance yesterday but maybe I shouldn't be. Yesterday wasn't the game for him, I think Arteta set-up his side very well and had them so much better prepared than us. Partey had a man of the match performance too which wouldn't have helped.

It's the "Goldbridge effect". So many muppets who just repeat whatever he says. Same goes for the Maguire hate around here. Don't get me wrong...I don't think McTominay should be starting every game. But he definitely has a spot in our rotation. He's a decent player...

I would really like to see him come to terms with his limits. I personally think he is the best option moving forward to play in the #6 for us (only because of Matic's age), but I'd like to see VdB playing along side him. Not Fred. He can rotate with Fred, but they shouldn't really play together in my humble opinion. For me, we need someone along side of him who can take care of the ball. So McT can win it back and then make the simple pass to VdB (or Pogba if he ever finds form). His problem is when he tries to do more than he's capable of. Keep it simple and become more disciplined in his positioning and he can be a very important player for us. EIther way, I think he is a decent player who definitely has a spot in our squad in the rotation and off the bench...

Thought he was really impressive against PSG again. He's alot tighter in possession when closed down than people give him credit for. He continued to produce some lovely touches throughout the game.
I still think Fred, McTom and Bruno need to improve their communication with one another though.

Limited passing? He’s the best passer we have.

Did I read that right? Based on what exactly? His passing is improving marginally but he still has the lowest passing completion among our deep lying midfielders (84.3% to Fred's 88.8 and Matic's 88.1%) and he attempts less creative passes, less long passes and less passes overall (he averages 41.3 passes a game to Fred's 53.5 and Matic's 53.2)

West Ham 1:3 Man Utd
Is he the most unnatural midfielder in the history of Manchester United?

I don't see what he brings other the energy in midfield. Not a good passer, not a particularly good screener of defence and offers little going forward.

He was really, really bad. Shouldn’t be playing in games where we need to take the initiative because he just isn’t good enough on the ball.

I don't know what he brings in this team except "passion". We lose creativity in attack with him and it is not that he is Kante or Casemiro in defensive part of the game.
Useful in some rare games and that is it. Against weaker teams he should not be in squad

If he was wearing a Fulham shirt and put in this performance, there is not a Utd fan on this planet that would say 'sign him up, he's just what we need'.......

A very strong upgrade on him would do wonders to this team.

Exposed today without someone to hold his hand, at least second half was better than first. Need to stop pretending he is a player that can play every week and pick right games to play him where his energy and work rate can make him a key player.

Slow brain. No real creative sparks. However he’s still very malleable. Has the same physical and mental qualities that Carrick has. Just needs to be taught the belief and confidence to think quicker and have more of an edge to his game.

He is 24. He can't learn anymore to be creative, how to pass better and technical skills in general. He is our huge problem in attacking part of the game.and tbh, i don't see what he does that special in defence. Fred at least is everywhere on the pitch and covers much more

Man Utd starting CM that played over 60 games for us that needs to be taught he needs to think quicker? I give up.....

He can't get into Scotland's midfield.

His passing lets him down. Shame because he has a good touch and is actually good in tight spaces but just can't pass and has no vision - very similar to Lindgard.

No idea what role he’s performing in the midfield, he should be holding, but offers little else but industry and loss of possession in whatever role he is actually playing. Ole keeps trying the Pogba holding and McTommy doing the running, but it just isn’t good enough, nor will it ever be, neither are being played to their strengths.

Only player in the pitch who didn't improve when Bruno and Rashford came on.

Scott has his positives and is useful in games we need a fighter but he honestly has some of the worst forward passing I've seen in our midfield.

Misjudged the weight constantly, gets the angles wrong. Passes straight to opposition and worst of all is while he doesn't hide on the pitch he hides with his passing.

You can see him consistently feck up passes and then proceed to stop attempting them and just go sideways.

He needs massive improvement in this area.

What club doesn’t have a midfielder who is capable of running around and trying hard while offering nothing on the ball?

Not even going to entertain that with naming the obvious list of teams, other than by default you are actually saying that Scott would be in any team in the prem? I'd argue he wouldn't start for more than half......

Rubbish performance. His shot just wide was his best moment by far. Passing was careless.
