I like him but not a good start tbh.
This. Was lost at sea.. many times he'll go in for a tackle but benefica players just pass him by. But he grew into the game but i saw too much hesitation to go in for a tackle or to receive the ball. But he'll have a better 2nd as he is growing into the gameWhat are you guys watching?, he's been rubbish. His positional play is shocking.
Some of the comments in this thread have been absurdly premature and disrespectful.Meaning?
Not a Verratti... So more of a Nigel Reo-Coker?Disagree. he has been solid. Not a Verratti but still solid.
This is a weird comment considering there's a load of negative comments throughout this thread. They obviously don't suit your agenda though. He's the new Fletcher 03. A nothing player but he's from the youth setup so he can't do no wrong, at the moment

Can't fill my head with that comment, too hard to even understand.Every inch of space in your head is filled up with the things that you read. I guess you've got everything now
Fletcher took a battering on here in his first few years.
Every youth player we've had in the last twenty years has been called a "nothing player" or something similar on here by someone. It's a bizarre mentality. Not a good half from him. Benfica going past him with ease and he started to hide and not look for the ball.
Still its young days for him. He does look terrific technically.
Also, did someone just call Fletcher a nothing player?
He intercepted the ball twice at the end of the half so some people think he did well. One interception was thanks to a dopey Benfica player kicking it into him.

Also calling Fletcher a nothing player is hilariously absurd.
Nothing special is not a nothing player. Most youngsters don't burst out and start amazing.Fletcher was nothing special when Fergie handed him his debut

Have you actually read the thread? He's the new Fletcher 03. A nothing player but he's from the youth setup so he can't do no wrong, at the moment

Because he's been good. He's done well on his first start in the Champions League. He's not lighting the game on fire but he's doing well in midfield. That doesn't mean he can do no wrong.I've read some of it. Im talking about the comments today relating to his current performance
Well, the majority of the thread is mostly people saying he's mediocre at best. Then some think he's having a good game and praise him for it and you come up with "he can do no wrong for some people". Surely you could see how that's a completely baseless conclusion, all things considered?I've read some of it. Im talking about the comments today relating to his current performance

Cool. Good for you. I think he's doing well.Look, he ended the half well with two interceptions but that won't won't cloud my judgement or overall assessment. Benfica went past him with ease for the most part and he looked positionally unaware. It was the very definition of bang average.
Fair enough, the context of the entire threadWell, the majority of the thread is mostly people saying he's mediocre at best. Yeah I'll be surprised too. He's playing in a very tough position to push through at a top club. I hope he does though, I hope he can grow and be a great player. As it is, he's a nice option to have as a backup in my mind.I'll be surprised if he makes it here but as long as Mourinho is in charge he'll have a fair crack at it
The bold part is what people see, or at least what I agree with.Think he’s been good personally. He’s expected to keep things simple and keep the ball moving and that’s what he’s done. Few interceptions and tackles as well as what seems to be a mature footballing brain not over complicating things.

But some see him performing as expected and think that's him being a positive in our team, others see him performing ok but not to the extent of being a positive, but are happy with him not bein a negative in the team.
People expressing those things differently creates arguments. That and there will always be the few odd people out going full on praise for cheap, or those who slags someone off for not having a top class performance.
I'm in the camp that thinks he's doing ok, no reason to praise bar saying he's done ok/well enough or slag him off for not doing more.
I do find it weird when people use a word like solid for his performance. Solid for me is having a positive effect on our game, like Martial. He's been solid today with creating chances and generally being our main/only attacking threat, not a great performance by him either, but solid.
Or in "redcafe ranking terms", McTominay has been a 6 while Martial has been a 7.
And before people think I see 6 as bad, 6 is the baseline of acceptable in my eyes, and is what we at best can expect for a young player without much experience or seemingly without special abilities that make him stand out.
Which is fair, as long as we know we see things differently.Solid to me means doing what is expected without adding more.
I think there's a bit of a problem of the caf and Internet as a whole that if you say a positive or negative thing it's read as 100% black or white. When I say I think he's done well I'm not saying he hasn't made any mistakes or he's been a 10/10. Just that he's done well and I think for such an inexperienced player it's worth mentioning that he doesn't look out of place out there.Which is fair, as long as we know we see things differently.
The guy I commented on earlier in this thread went on with some "you read too much" comment that was impossible to understand instead of just explaining what he put in the word solid. There was Verratti or solid, which seemed like just a post to get something out there.
Yeah. Saying he doesn't look out of place and seem to handle the mental aspect of playing at the Old Trafford and can hopefully build on that is absolutely fair, and note out that despite not being great he had a few good involvements is fine. I think that's the kind of praise he absolutely does deserve. If he can become a Fletcher-like (before he had his period of top class play) player that brings you a good game every game he'll do great for us as a academy product.I think there's a bit of a problem of the caf and Internet as a whole that if you say a positive or negative thing it's read as 100% black or white.
