Saudi League thread

So you're saying that when China wanted to raise awareness and improve the quality of their league by signing major European names on big salaries that were unheard of at the time, such as Hulk, Oscar, Fellani, Tevez, Ighalo, Gaitan, Carrasco, Paulinho, Mascherano, Ramires, Pelle, Demba Ba and Martins, that situation is in no way shape of form comparable to what the Saudis are doing right now?

Nah you're right, completely different situation because someone got paid £4m in Saudi Arabia and China was only paying £600k. Obviously there are zero similarities in these two scenarios. Silly me.

I'm saying the amount of money the Saudis are paying makes this a completely different level to what was done in China, could you imagine the ballon d'or winner having gone to China? Or cristiano ronaldo (no matter his level of ability, he wouldn't have gone to Saudi for the wages China offered)? Plus China was private individuals mostly and the government pulled the plug, this is the Saudi government pushing this so its not likely to go the same way as china

They're doing the same thing just with more money, and the Ballon D'or winner back when Tevez went to China was prime Cristiano Ronaldo, not a 38 year old Benzema at the end of his last contract at Madrid.

You think a 30 year old Ronaldo or Messi joins Al Nassar for the same money? These lads got similar offers when China were doing the same and chose to stay in Europe.

The Saudis haven't bought a player yet anyway, they're just sweeping up the 30+ out of contract players. When someone at the top of their game in their mid 20's goes there for a big transfer it will be a different story.

A country is signing players and assigning them to clubs. This shit is fecked up and should be resisted.

Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are all state owned clubs. The Saudi state investment fund is paying Ronaldo, Benzema and Kante. The Chinese Superleague clubs was not state owned like this. These players also have contracts that pays them for doing commercial stuff, promoting Saudi Arabia and help them in their quest for WC 2030.

btw. Benzema is 35 and will be on 5-10 x the highest earners in the top clubs in the world (same as 38 year old Ronaldo)

There are some similarities between the Chinese Super League and the Saudi Pro League, but this is sportswashing directed directly by the Saudi state on a totally new level. They needed only a year to bend professional golf to their will.
It's good times for the rich human rights violators out there. People seem to care less and less about where their money comes from....

Well people love to pretend they’re morally superior but the levels of money being thrown around proves that morals can be bought at a certain price, and that goes for everyone.

They’re going to spend this money anyway, it’s not like it will vanish and end up in the hands of anyone that’s suffered abuse in these countries if people like Benzema don’t take it and bring it back to Spain/France.

Whether people want to accept it or not, European economies just simply will not grow at a pace that affords most people the comfortable midlife mediocracy they enjoy today without Middle Eastern investment. European citizens do not invest anywhere near what the likes of Americans do in their own systems so growth is minimal to none here without the whopping 30%-40% investment that comes from the oil funded ‘human rights abusers’.

If you’re ever in doubt, just remember that we’re all their bitch and yet they like to keep that information to themselves and keep paying us massive amounts of money, and I turn we spend it on human rights and anti discrimination campaigns. The circle is complete.

Whats going on at Chelsea? First they recieve a large investment from a Saudi company and now half their squad seem to be moving to the Saudi league

Must be mental to be a coach at one of these clubs. One minute you’re coaching a group of local lads, next season all these champions league winners rock up for training

Saudi PIF (the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, owner of Newcastle United and new owners of the four biggest clubs in Saudi Arabia) are major investors in Clearlake Capital (Chelsea's owner)...

Really quite interesting what's happening in Saudi now.

Sounds like Neves will earn approx £25Million a year, Ronaldo on a reported £200Million etc, I know the Saudis have money to burn, but what is the long term plan?

Even they can't be rich enough to pay say 100 players an average of £30Million per year can they? That would be 3 billion quid a year!!
It's hugely intriguing. I wouldn't think top players would give up wanting to represent their country, so whatever Saudi do they would have to follow Fifa rules, and if they want a relationship with Europe, follow Uefa rules, including FFP. On the other hand Cricketing authorities thought no one could go against them at one time. I really have no idea, I'm in full learning mode.

They can’t sign 100 players. They have a limit of 8 foreign players/squad. And PIF owns majority stake in 4 clubs. That works out to exactly 32 places... So maybe closer to 1,2 billion a year. That‘s not too far from the money Abu Dhabi has been spending on 115 charges fc… which seems to be sustainable.

Football is much bigger than Cricket and Golf… Thye can’t just buy their way into UEFA. And the ESL is basically dead. They are stuck with their shit league, playing in shit Asian competitions…

Not sure if I put it here but in 24 months, my prediction is the Saudi teams will buy their way into the Europa Conference, then the Europa League and finally joining the UCL.

With the news about Chelsea and their huge push in sports (LIV, F1, Ownership of Football teams) to effectively bribe players to join their league, (Modric 600m ffs!), they will buy their way into the top echelon of sports, including football.

Nothing will stop them because everything and everyone is up for sale and they have the money.

Not if the club's world cup consisting of 32 teams goes ahead in 2025.

Chelsea will under Boehly clearly bend the rules within what is the rules as they did with the long term amortisations/contracts

It's not even like this is illegal on paper I guess (for now). Boehly can just pay Saudi Arabia something in private or just strike a deal with them to do this and no one will ever find out as they'll of course deny anything with this.

The people who couldnt give two fecks about human rights on here will sooner or later have to defend worse and worse things too. But of course our own beloved new Qatari-overlord would never resort to anything like this or to the lengths City have gone. They'll just sit quietly in their corner and be all Oki-doke with being outcheated and outcompeted by their middle-eastern rivals.

If israel and israeli clubs can play in european competition, then surely the saudis will argue why cant they?

Arab teams boycotting Israel (the same we are boycotting Russia now or how African teams boycotted South Africa during the Apartheid era // which among other things made african nations boycott FIFA until it excluded South Africa) was the reason behind admitting Israel into UEFA. The AFC couldn’t manage that situation anymore…

If Saudi have money to burn then why not bring the players to them instead of investing the money in the UK...then they get to watch them live instead of silly o'clock.

We've offered Maguire, they just haven't returned the fax message.

Israel football got boycotted by most arab states, they indirectly got kicked out of Asia, not that they chose to join UEFA for no reason at all.

Anyways Saudi Arabia has the money to bribe enough UEFA suits that will have no issue receiving oil money in some Cayman Islands banks, so saudi teams can play the UCL and probably even move their national team to play the UEFA Euro.

Or they could just form inter-continental super league, where their teams are the only ones featuring from outside Europe anyway.

They will get 2030 World Cup (may even get all the World Cups between 2030 and 2050 given how corrupt FIFA are) and I expect many European competition finals to be played in Riyadh as well.

This is great.

Chelsea take out a huge loan, spend it on stupid 8 year contracts for rubbish players.

1 year later.

Sell half their squad to clubs owned by PIF, who own half the teams in their league, but are also heavily invested with Chelsea's owners Clearlake.

Nothing to see here.

Benzema is old but he's still a fantastic player, 100 mil a year for 2023 Kante is wild.

Once the deal was done it is €100m over the length of the contract. Still a great deal for Kante, but not as fanciful as first reported.
