Samuel Eto'o

I would not be surprised if Fergie does not want Eto. Yes I know it sounds like a heresy over here but my opinion is based on the following:

1. Eto is at the peak of his career. Fergie usually signs two type of players - either those who are promising and have not fully fulfilled their potential like all the youngsters and other not so young but still improving like Carrick, Valencia, Park, Rio, Vidic, Evra etc or else proven players at relatively cheap prices like VDS, Blanc, Sheringham, Cantona, Owen etc. Berbatov was an exception rather than the rule. As you see Eto is in neither of these two categories

2. ETo is 28 and as per the recent press release united will not spend big money on players 25 and over...

3. Next January/February Eto will most probably play in African Nations Cup, something FErgie will not be very enthusiastic about.

OK, people may say that Eto's price maybe cheap, but you also have to consider the wages as part of the total outlay. And knowing that this is probably his last big contract and being at the peak of his career, Eto will demand big wages..

That s the only thing that bothers me

Anyway Eto's options looks quite limited. It s either us or Barcelona, unless Ibra leaves for Chelsea. In that case Inter would be interested.

Ronaldinho moved to AC Milan. Barca beat Milan 2-1 but I do not know if it was that same season that Barca won the CL. He scored the winner in that game.

How many times has it happened that a player who won the CL moved to the team he beat in the CL?

Dont know, just remember that Trezeguet moved to Juventus after he scored the winning goal for France against Italy at the European Championship final

Kluivert scored for Ajax against Milan in the Final, and then moved there a couple of seasons after that.

Ibrahimovic also moved to Juventus after scoring against Italy in the Euros.

True, however, Trezeguet scored the golden goal which meant that Italy lost the final. Didnt get a nice reception I think after that in Italy

Eric Cantona scored a hattrick for Leeds United in the Charity Shield against Liverpool. A few weeks later, we signed him...Does that count?

:D

To be fair United wouldn't distance themselves if that did happen! SAF Would walk to Spain and collect him if he was free

Would be great if that happened, got this funny image of Fergie scavenging through bins looking for good players who are free.

:lol::lol:

Imagine a red nosed guy rummaging through the bins.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there was no official press release that came with United's blessing. Just the tabs cottoning onto what had been going on for a while anyway and dressing the "story" up like it was something new and something official. It seems like United do have a policy along these lines but it's not likely to be as rigid as reported. Can't say it's a load of bollox because we do operate along thse lines. It 's just not new, official or set in stone.

No press release, but fairly obviously it would be stupid to spend another big sum on a striker who's only likely to give us a few years, having done it last year and not yet had a return.

The only option I could see would be a player exchange, and I can't see that working, especially since I think Berbatov should be given some time, and I'm sure Barcelona wouldn't be interested in Nani, who we maybe might consider expendable (though really he could do with a shot as well).

The only other thing to consider is the short term opportunity cost of not signing him - he might end up at one of the other top 4 clubs in England.

Let's hope he sticks it out at Barca for another year.

I think he's a great player, but can't see us going for a big name ego striker now.

Ay, they don't comment on transfer activity

Which makes the associated press stories that we're distancing ourselves look a little silly too

But hey we're United, one way or another the tabloids have to get us in their shit rags to sell papers

We're not buying anyone else

Well, Ibrahimovic scored the goal that eventually saw Italy going out in the group stages after the 2-2 draw Sweden got with Denmark. :x
