Samuel Eto'o | Signs for Chelsea

Eto'o could be a phenomenal signing.

Eto'o will be a phenomenal signing. He's still quick, powerful and has tremendous shooting power. If he's ready to come off the beach and get serious again he'll tear Premier League defenders to shreds.

Mourinho has been very good with players at that stage in their career in the past. Diego militia springs to mind. Wasn't Etoo quite good for him when he went to inter in the Ibra deal aswel?

He'd be a superb signing for them potentially. What Chelsea lacked last night was a top quality striker up front for them who can win them matches and score a substantial number of goals like Van Persie or Aguero can.

Without one, they can still challenge. With one, it could be the missing link they need to become favourites for the title this season. He may not even be a long term signing, but he could have a very big impact for the next year or two.

Eto'o scares the shit out of me. I still haven't forgotten how utterly devastating he was on Pro 4.

 Love it!

Seriously speaking if Mourinho can even get him back to what he was at Inter Eto'o will be devastating e.g.

I strongly suspect Eto'o is really 34 or 35. That's not saying he can't be effective. Just that I very much doubt he's the player he was before he went to Russia.

I just googled him and either you or Wiki are wrong. They say he never played for Real Madrid B and Moved to Mallorca in the winter of 2000 (when he was 19).

Literally the first paragraph:

Samuel Eto'o joined Real Madrid's youth academy in 1997, but he could only train with Real Madrid B, as he was still a minor. Real Madrid B were relegated to the third tier, Segunda División B, where non-European Union players are not allowed, and as a result, he was loaned to second-division CD Leganés for the 1997–98 season, when he was only in the tenth grade.[8] After making 30 appearances for the club and only scoring four goals, he returned to Madrid following the end of the 1998–99 season. In January 1999, he was loaned out to RCD Espanyol,[9] but failed to make any appearances for the club.

Yep, never played for them. I guess WIki can be wrong though.

It says in pretty clear English that at the age of 16 or 17 he was playing Second Division football, not that I think he is older than he claims but he did develop early.

If Eto'o is still as devastating as people claim why wasn't he more highly sought after. Bit dubious about this one.

They'll just pursue him like the press pursued Diana.

Very good signing if he's committed to the cause which I think he will be given how professional he has always been.

Eto'o might be the missing piece of the puzzle for Chelsea if he's still anywhere near as good as he was for Barca. I really hope that he's not, as much as I loved to watch him!

Doesn't really matter to duffer, he's not paying him. They're probably paying him what they were willing to pay Rooney.

Excellent signing by Chelsea, they finally have their top centre forward. Well, if he's still got it, as I haven't seen him play for ages, I have no idea really.

But potentially excellent.

Nice to see Eto'o come out of retirement.

It will be a good boost of experience. Ba the oddball signing, Torres the confidence black hole, Lukaku the up and coming powerhouse. I think he'll gobble up a lot of the poachy style chances created from the withdrawn forwards.

In one year's time, Chelsea will come knocking again. :(

I think he would have signed new deal or contract extension by then. It helps all parties. It will help United if he still wants to leave next summer with good transfer fee, it will help him (and his agent) through new deal and if they get some cut from transfer fee. All he need to do is play well enough so that there are suitors for him next summer and probably from abroad (if at all he wants to leave).
It might be case like Henry to Barca (although he didn't sulk or create such drama, he signed contract extension in summer previous to which he left)

Samuel Eto'o in 2004: I'd rather sell groundnuts in my village than to play for a pathetic team like Chelsea

This was before he'd worked with Mourinho and been part of a team that won the Treble. Things, and people, do chance you know.

Definitely. Disappointing to see him end up at Chelsea but Mou, deep pockets along with a chance to win silverware & be relevant again made it the smartest choice.

Curious to see him in the Premiership and whether he's lost much...I doubt it really, he's extremely hardworking. Torres might as well hand in a transfer request

Wonder how they will play him. Will they ever play with 2 strikers?
