Samuel Eto'o | Signs for Chelsea

Would only be good for us. Rooney will feel "Oh, so it wasn't Rooney-or-nothing then. feck Chelsea then".
I still get the feeling Rooney will stay.

Either way, not sure how good of a player Eto'o is anymore - haven't watched a second of him since he went to Russia.

Wouldn't really solve our problems. High wages and no telling how he would be. I'd rather have Lukaku as our main striker over him and give him the chance he deserves.

As an outsider, I see absolutely no reason to spend the type of money Eto'o would demand when you have a diamond like Lukaku as well as the seemingly improving Torres and Ba who we know can be pretty good.

Pretty much my opinion. Rooney is different, you know he will deliver at least a decent amount of goals. Nothing points to Eto being a definite success at his age.

Was one of my favourites players and was really hoping he moved to United when he made his move to Inter. Not sure I want him now. Definately not as a replacement for Rooney.

I don't see how you would be able to fit Torres, Ba, Lukaku, Eto'o and Rooney into a team that usually plays with only one proper striker.

Mou has a record of bringing in players that have played for him before and Samu would tick a lot of the other boxes any manager would/could hope for in a striker. Perfect for Eto'O as well, club that can pay high wages, chance to win cups, manager he knows/trusts and a platform to regain some relevancy in world football in the Premiership

That being said, does seem to smack a bit of desperation to issue a rallying cry rather than be pursued which suggests he isn't on Chelski's agenda

4 goals in 900 minutes of the Europa League last year plus the failure to even finish in the top 3 scorers in either Russian PL season suggests he's not quite at the top level any more, but I saw him in a couple of half-games in the league and he was blatantly disinterested more than anything. A big move could revitalise him but it's a risk for sure, particularly seeing as if things don't work out and he doesn't establish himself as firm first choice he could cause a few problems off the field.

4 in 900 minutes is 1 goal short of a goal every other game. Not a bad record.

I don't find it hard to believe he was not arsed over there though. Was always a retirement job.

Jose knows him (and the potential risks he could bring) and I've always been an etoo fan so I'd be happy if we took a gamble on him.

Rooney could play up front
Etoo or ba on the bench with the other as back up
Lukaku on loan (west brom?)
Torres sold to anyone who would take a punt on him

Eto'o played on the right of a front 3 for Jose for Inter or can play through the middle

Rooney as we know can play anywhere from attacking midfield across the front 3

Ba played on the left off Cisse or can play up top

Torres and Lukaku only really play up top and offer something

In theory they could all fit in and give Chelsea options but there is no chance they will get Rooney this Summer

Rooney hates doing that, Ba hates doing it.

You've really only got Eto'o who is happy with the role. Don't see it working.

I'd take Eto'o in a heartbeat. Only 32 and if he is half the player he was 2 years ago he'd be better than Torres or Ba.

He's only 32!?

Jesus he gave up the ghost early. These bloody brazilia.....oh wait, hold on?

How has he been performing?

He WAS the most dangerous front man on the planet.

He's about 300k/week on wages at Anzhi, didn't he? Not to say Chelsea can't afford it though

He's in his 30's what makes you think he won't drop his wage demands?

With the transfer fee being so low they probably gave him an absurd signing fee and a more 'normal' wage.

Very interested to see what a 32 year old Eto'o can do. Jose knows him so that's a good sign.

He still has bags of pace, doesn't he, so with gained experience he will probably be just as lethal, if not more so. As duffer said, 32 is no age at all these days, not if he has taken care of his fitness.

Pretty exciting signing for Chelsea fans, in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see whether Eto'o is used in a similar wide role as Mourinho used him in at Inter, or if he'll actually be his alternative to Rooney and play right up top.

Remains to be seen how good he is nowadays, I have to say I don't think I've seen more than 5 minutes of him since he moved to Russia - but I'm still pleased he won't be facing us on Monday.

Exciting for Porto fans as well! Go Eto'o!

Chelsea will have a mighty team... by far the best team in the league if they add somebody like Eto'o to it. With Mourinho in charge, i have no doubt they will be our main contender this season instead of City.

--------------Cech----------------
Ivanovic---Luiz---Terry------Cole
------Ramires-------Lampard-------
Willian-------Mata--------Hazard
--------------Eto'o---------------

Their depth:

Goal: Schwarzer
Defence: Azpilcuetta, Bertrand, Cahill, Aké
Central Midfield: Essien, Mikel, Van Ginkel
Attacking midfield: Oscar, De Bruyne, Schürle
Strikers: Lukaku, Ba, Torres, Moses

Their defence look a bit weak, but for the rest they have a strong squad (and i wouldn't be surpirsed if Mourinho would sign a defender before the window closes in fact). Probably Ba and Moses will be sold aswell.

Think they will try and get Rooney with a last offer on Monday, if that is refused (if Mata is not involved, no way we'll accept) he'll sign Eto'o and get rid of Ba and Moses, and i could see him add a back up for the defence on the last day of the window in fact.

I hope he fat and out of shape and not motivated simply because he is now in his 30's and has won all there is to win at the club level.
