Saka (Arsenal)

Would be interesting if he wanted to play for the team he supports. I think he could handle the step up to a big club.
His time at England shows he could handle the step down in managerial and team mate quality too.

Yeah but I'm talking about him coming to a team that's won trophies the last 2 seasons. Not a loser like Arteta.

I really like him, seems like a great person and I'm so glad he was the hero the other night. Huge mental strength by him considering what happened at the Euros 3 years ago.

Not surprised with him growing up supporting United. I remember him saying Rooney and Ronaldo were his favourite players growing up so had a feeling.

He's a Utd fan, we must sign him! Baller, ice cold nerves, the type of player we need, have to save him from that rotten club, we deserve him.

Oh wait, I made a mistake. To the Palmer thread..

Im pretty sure Shaw was joking. Saka grew up an Arsenal fan, he joined the club at 7 and there are pictures of him galore in Arsenal kits as a youngster.

Anyways. When you look at the figures being thrown around for players, a necessary bid to take Saka from Arsenal, would put the b club in the FFP red for the next 5 years.

The club and team are on a trajectory of development. Rome wasn't built in a day. Things take time and it's amazing how someone like you can't see what Arteta has done with that club. It's a very short-sighted, modern football fan way of thinking these days and unfortunately, a club and team eventually suffers because of that thinking. They challenged for the Premier League with City for 2 consecutive seasons and let's not forget that as good as Klopp is, he only won the league once. Arteta has done an amazing job at Arsenal rebuilding the culture of the club and the team.

Don't bother, it's over. It is now a well known fact that Saka loves United and will ask for a transfer asap to reunite with Luke Shaw.

What a trophy.

You're probably 12 still writing Christmas lists. No use trying to have a conversation with you.

I’m sure Saka will look back at his career when it’s over, and he’ll be extremely fond of the two seasons he played in a side that finished second and won absolutely nothing.

Footballs about winning.

To a point. Growing up and playing for your boyhood club, idolised by fans, pursuing trophies, is 95% more than any footballer gets.

Of course winning something adds the massively outsized 5%. But it’s a cherry atop a pretty incredible cake.

10 seasons or more, playing for a great club, and your country. It’s a hell of a thing and people lose sight of that.

Has football ended? Can Saka and Arsenal not write their own history in the seasons ahead?

We have finished 8th and won and FA Cup. Ill let you in on a secret, an FA Cup does nothing to help you in the league. The FA Cup is a 7 game campaign in which half the time opposition are from the lower leagues. Its not to be compared to a 38 game campaign against top flight opposition where you need sustained results to compete at the top end.

I dont mind Arteta not winning anything for the past two seasons. Because he has build a young team that is primed to challenge for years ahead. If your satisfied with ETH carving out a niche as a domestic cup specialist and not threatening to compete in the league, then have at it. But Im failry sure most Man United fans are wanting a better points tally than 58. As well as scoring more than 60 league goals - which really isnt a high bar, but its one ETH hasn't cleared yet. If your only scoring 58 goals in the league, your not competing. You really need to be scoring around 85-100.

As for Saka to Man United..........are you serious?

If that’s the case why don’t we sell him to a top flight league 2 club where I’m sure he will shatter the records and win it all within that league.

One thing has to be said - the whole fecking Spanish bar shat themselves every time he got the ball today. Always looked explosive and always felt threatening.

Yeah but never pushed on enough. He should have asked more questions of Cucarella.

Might be an unpopular take but I thought he was massively at fault for both of Spain's goals, especially the 2nd one. Cucurella starts his run from behind him and Saka doesn't make the effort to stay with him and leaves Walker isolated. For the first goal he's just jogging back aswell leaving Walker with two players to mark.

I agree with this, he was nowhere and wasn’t playing like a wingback in the second half.

In terms of tracking back I also remarked that for his role - what on paper was LWB, but in fact more of a classical left winger/forward - he didn’t run as much as you’d expect. Maybe he was knackered after a long season

Long season + a lot of minutes in this tournament possibly. Annoying because his workrate has always been one of his biggest strengths. Spain were a lot more direct at the start of the 2nd half, perhaps the speed of the attack took him by surprise compared to the slower and more methodical build up in the first half.

He wasn’t a wing back today. He was a standard RW. That said, he should still have tracked back better for the second goal particularly.

He didn't do anything all tourney.

If Saka didn't do anything all tourney, i wonder what the feck the rest of the team has done

Stats are like mini skirt

His only relevant statistic should be how many chances he had and how many goals he scored.

Spent the game in Cucurella pocket

Don't think that was the case at all. The few times Saka was 1 on 1 with him, Saka got quite a bit of joy. The other times, Spain were covering with 2-3 players and counter pressing really well all game (as they do in all areas of the pitch).

Cucurella did well enough defensively and delivered a clutch assist so he can claim to have had a good game though.
