I think we need 2 central midfielders and if we are going to sign Renato Sanches, he'd be a good choice as the other midfielder.
I'd love it if this would happen, two of the most promising midfielders around in the same transfer window.
Is it bad that I'd prefer to see Saul with Herrera rather than Sanches.

He'd be a wonderful signing. He's a very complete player, ticks a whole lot of boxes, excellent energy levels and is very intelligent. I've been hearing about Oliver Torres for ages, and this guy, while rated highly, was made to sound like he was a bit of a limited DM, whereas this La Liga season he's established himself as a really important player for Simeone, and been consistently excellent.

With Mendes becoming more prominent and with Berta probably on his way, how can this not happen if we are still interested?

Koke as well, whose best position is central midfield, too. Simeone likes them there, because they are very good defensively.
It's more due to the fact that it allows him to constantly play a balanced 4-3-1-2, with one of the top 3 player spreading the defense. In attack or defense Atletico don't play the entire field, they divide the field in quarters.
Koke I can understand. He's pretty much a typical CDM imo. Saul from what I've seen has the agility to play further forward if required really. But yeah, I would prefer him being a CM if he joined.

If LVG stays, Herrera might want to leave. A healthy non-suspended Fellaini and our new b2b captain Rooney unfortunately get the nod before him.
Maybe your right, but I just can't see LVG here for next season.
If he does stay, Herrera could look at it 2 ways; leave and find a different club, a club which will be a step down from United or stick it out for 1 more years till a new manager arrives and prove his worth.
Depends what he is thinking, but from the reactions of him scoring goals and celebrating goals scored by United, I think he loves the club too much to leave because the manager will only be here for another season at worst.
He's class and won't cost a bomb, and he's improved massively this season, I like him.
