Big potential for left wing and can fill in at left back or left wing back. Not sure why anyone would say no. Wouldn't cost a fortune as the hype died down a bit, also wouldnt put much blame on a quiet season on him considering Fulham went for a overpaid older player route rather than using the younger players that got them into the league. Plus he can play on the right as well and had good moments.
I've seen RB, CB, LB, CM, RW, LW and CF all described as problem areas on here in recent weeks, even if the likes of De Gea and Pogba don't need to be replaced. There's no version of this summer's transfer window that doesn't see us arriving in September with a big hole somewhere in our side.
Which still doesn't mean you can't finish in the top four. Both Chelsea and Arsenal have glaring flaws in their side yet still made the top four and/or reached the EL final.
I think replacing Ander is the most clear and obvious hole to fill.
Ince, Nugent, and Ledley were all 20-21 years old when they did well in the Championship. Sessegnon was 17 when he tore it up. Zaha was 19-20 when he had his good seasons in the Championship.
Sessegnon would be a smart buy. Someone who could provide an attacking option at LB when chasing a game, who could also fill in other areas as a squad player, and potentially a great LB if he develops well. Currently he's not good enough defensively, but if an aging winger in Valencia and Young were able to play there, Sessegnon could certainly do it too. He might never turn into an amazing defender at LB, but he could potentially turn into an amazing attacker as a LB.
You would just have to be patient with him. He's worth the risk at the quoted prices going around.
You could argue that McTominay is well on the way to doing that. Whilst I do agree that we need a midfielder, i think we need to upgrade rather than replace. But the role Herrera played i think could be filled by McT.
Having said all that, surely RW is the biggest hole in our squad? Our whole attack is lopsided and has been for ages. It's not either or, but that position has literally been neglected for years.
Actually DM is along with RW. RW because we don't have one and DM because Matic pretends to be one. Also our defense is bad partly due to the fact the midfield doesn't do it defensive job especially when Herrera isn't available/inform
So I take it he doesn't fit the profile of player you previously mentioned United should be looking at, up and coming young talent in Britain? You've admitted he appears to have plenty of potential, and he already has over 100 senior appearances and just turning 19.
For anything at or under 25m I'd say he's a no brainer. Looked fantastic in his breakout season, less so last season but we've seen he's got talent.
Provides cover at 3 positions for us, one of which we have basically none as things stand (LB). I think he'll be best at RW eventually but at his age we can afford to give him time in various spots as and when needed.
Most of all, I'm just happy to see that we're being linked with players such as Sessegnon & James. The galactico-lite strategy is never going to work for us, we need to be making our own stars (as cliche as that sounds).

If this true, could it be that ole wants to use a 5-3-2 formation with Ryan Sessegon and James as wingback?
We'll struggle in possession if mctominay is a regular starter (certainly at this stage of his career). He makes far less passes in a game than Herrera or matic (obviously matic has his own, different issues). If our midfield makes 15-20% less passes per game then our general play is going to suffer over time.
We ought to be signing improvements on both, that will improve our squad more than signing a poor player to compete with Shaw and Martial's mediocrity.

He's bang average based on what he's shown this season. Until he starts showing (in the premier league) this potential that people keep talking about we should steer clear.
Yeah, that's the period I was talking about. Even then, despite how much we all laughed about it, you could see that Bale had huge potential. His speed, size and skill were there for all to see. He just had to learn to harness it.
From what I've seen Sessegnon doesn't have anywhere near that same kind of stand-out potential.

I find it amusing that a few of the posters who think the mooted Daniel James signing is a good thing are turning up their noses at Sessegnon when he bossed the same league James is having an average break through season in (and James is three years older). Sessegnon had a more productive break through season in the championship last season so what could that possibly mean for James in the big league?
I thought Sessegnon had a disappointing season but I think he'll know that. Still has a lot of potential.

He certainly has far better stats then the reverse flash of Swansea. I don't mind him as backup for the LW.
Having said that I do worry that Ole is doing the same mistake he did at Cardiff were he packed the team with young talent who wasn't yet ready yet for the challenge ahead only to get himself fired later on. We need quality and we need it now.

Yup. Very talented. Can provide backup at LB and LW. Last year of contract so he will not be expensive.

Agreed he's not explosive but he has a nack of getting on the end of crosses.

You could certainly spend the extra money required to do that, as long as you're happy not to spend elsewhere and leave other positions weak.
Hardly surprising if the manager decides that Shaw/Martial on the left require less supplementation than Young/Lingard on the other side, or CM where a midfield that already wasn't good enough has lost Fellaini & Herrera without replacing them, or CB.

We need competition at left back and he can also play a left winger role, I think he would be a great signing.
I like the idea of going British but not to sure on how we are implementing it with supposedly wanting to sign Sessegnon and James considering we might be only signing 5 players max this summer and these two are not of the quality to be first team starters next season.
But I do like the idea of targeting British players this season but just more established ones because I feel they will be far more loyal to the club and not see us a stepping stone or a nice payday, which in turn creates more leaders in the dressing room.

Would be a decent signing I reckon. Cover at LB and LW, will only improve with age and experience too you would imagine. Whilst perhaps not a priority, cover at LB is needed otherwise you're stuck with Young there when Shaw is injured/suspended (love a pointless yellow).
I would love to be proved wrong because it would benefit the team.
As for your first point; yes he does just would like us to be certain about the player. I trust their judgement if they think fits the profile

Exactly. More than what we have in the first team we also have great quality coming through in the academy. Why would we sign someone who hasn't even proven his potential at the high level that is the prem?
I wasn't impressed with Sessegnon. If you want someone to compete with Shaw, then Grimaldo, Mendy, Tierney and Telles are better alternatives.
Would be a great signing and like James He's exactly the sort of player we should be looking at. Don’t let this season cloud your opinion of him, he’s been playing in an abysmal dysfunctional team.
Made his debut at 17 and became a regular, killing it in his breakthrough season. That sounds like a combination of talent and maturity, many great players were handed first team debuts at a young age. I haven't seen much of him at all but he seems to fit the profile of player United are going for now. Young, British and hardworking amirite? He'd probably be better off at Spurs under Pochettino and im only mentioning that because he's been linked to them.
I thought the armchair scouts would have learned a thing or two from the likes of Zaha and Salah but suppose not.
He finished the season as an 18-year old. Give the kid a break. There's plenty to come. He's younger than Chong, if you want a bit of perspective.
