Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney | Wrexham AFC Watch

They will have to let go of a good chunk of players which will be heartbreaking for them not being able to be part of the next step, but there’s some players in that team who would get found out even in league 2. Not sure how FFP works in league 2, but they should be able to get some premier league loan players in no problem, as well as some fringe championship players on a permanent basis.

Then again they can’t sell their individual matches to BT anymore. If they got paid according to the viewing numbers, they made quite a lot of money from those.

Not sure what Sky pays for League Two games but that income probably gets distributed more equally to all clubs in the division (which is a good thing).
I don't think they sell matches to BT, they have the rights to the National League so just choose whichever game they want to show. Obviously there is more interest in Wrexham, especially at this point of the season, so they're shown more often.

No doubt Sky will show at least a couple matches next season, I believe the figures for that are up to £100k for the home side depending on the timeslot with the away side getting £10k.

Are going around rumours that he also will invest and become a co-owner for the Ottawa Senators in the NHL.
Not just a rumour: he's part of a group of investors that's trying to buy the team - but there are several candidates for this, so we don't know yet who the new owners will be. Reynolds isn't providing the big money here though, he's more.like the face of his group.

But yeah, he's been to Ottawa and Sens games a few times (and been very popular doing so; he spent part of his childhood in the city, too), so I would assume he'd have less time for Wrexham if the Sens purchase happens.

Ah okay, my mistake. Thought they had sold those matches individually to BT.

Notoriety? Is it seen as a bad thing to join because of the owner's fame? Everyone seems to love them.

personally i don't see it as a bad thing at all...it'll bring attention to the club which in turn will bring better players. These guys, even at this level, can make a decent wage so the more attention and invest Rob and Ryan can bring to Wrexham, the better it is for everyone long term.

Yeah, will most likely have less time for Wrexham and would be fantastic for Ottawa from a PR perspective.

Sens are just as desperate for a new owner as United are after years and years of poor ownership under Eugene Melnyk.

As much as people see Reynolds as an actor he’s proved himself to be an excellent businessman. He made a fair share from a mobile phone company(owned 25%) that was sold for over 1 billion $.

Yeah, but then anything would help the Sens. They're in such a rut! Are you in the area?

I'm Swedish, had family living in Ottawa so I've been fortunate enough to see the Senators a few times. Seeing them live turned me into a fan, have been following them pretty closely the last 10 years which has also given insight into their issues.

A big problem is obviously the fact that they are playing in Kanata(which was a nightmare with regards to traffic before and after the games i saw), so I hope they will eventually get a new stadium in Lebreton. Just like Old Trafford and the Racecourse Ground, its an outdated stadium with sub-par fan experience.

If Reynolds gets involved with the Senators there will be a lot of things that he and his group will have to deal with. But seems like he's become more and more emotionally invested in Wrexham the last year where even his wife seems to become more attached to the club, so I can still se him being involved and travelling to Wrexham as much as he can. Did by no means mean to turn this thread into a conversation about Ottawa, but I do see some sort of similarity between the challenges that needs/needed to be faced by new owners in both Wrexham and Ottawa(+ United). Perhaps this is a sort of challenge that attracts Reynolds.

Are you from the Ottawa area?

feel like owning a soccer club and being part of an ownership group for an nhl team are vastly different. Can be a lot more hands on for the soccer club/influence there. For nhl ownership he will pretty much have no impact id think. Not much of a high/low impact on seasons over here for an nhl team unless you win the stanley cup, which being part of an ownership group he will have very little impact on. Being such a figurehead for wrexham and helping lift them up divisions makes a much bigger impact

Nice! I'm not from the area but I live here, yeah. I have to say I find it hard to care much for the Sens (although I appreciate their bilingualism). They don't have the local fanbase a local team usually has either: lots of people are Leafs and Habs fans first (Habs especially on the Quebec side). If the new owner could find a way to somehow turn that around and make supporting the Sens something you normally gravitate towards in this region, that would be a huge step forward. (And yes, a more centrally located arena also!)

And that (my comment above) is actually something Reynolds could really help achieve as part of this group of investors: build up the appeal and fanbase of the Sens. That's also one of their main achievements for Wrexham: getting much more interest in and sympathy for the club.

Otherwise, I agree, there's not nearly as much an owner could actually achieve for an NHL team.

(See, I turned this on topic again! )

Is just me that found a lot of Welcome to Wrexham quite cringe and irrelevant?

Regardless of that I still wish them the best. Rob and Ryan seem genuinely passionate and like they truly want to do what's best for the club and the fans. Would be such a downer now if they don't get promoted

It’s quite hard not to like them.

I'm sorry but I still laugh every time I see that avatar.

Imagine you're an older Wrexham fan and your grandkids show you a picture of what the co-owner looks like, and it's that fecking photo.

The spent a good time during the show selling it to Canadian and US viewers.

Does Wrexham earn anything from these friendlies against Us and Cheleea?

Both games would get great crowds definitely, so can they actually monetize the tickets sales/telecast rights. Could help them a lot.

I’m sure they do, I mean why wouldn’t they? We’ll play a ”U21” side basically, but looks like it’ll be a proper Chelsea team so I’m sure there will be decent crowds at both.

The Athletic said in 2022 that EPL teams are paid around $500,000 US to play these tournaments.

Yeah but Wrexham aren't a PL team and they're not participating in the PL "World Series" or whatever they call that.

Very true, but I am sure they will get compensated. That docuseries has peaked interest in that club this year.

Wow, doesn't seem worth it, fly several hours, all the logistics, for what would have covered one week of Ronaldo's salary when he was here.

Why wouldn't it? World class facilities, great conditions, a few matches and a great opportunity to market the club in a big region with millions of fans. It's probably that 500k from PL + gate receipts + merchandise sales etc.

Oh I'm sure they are. And for them this is surely much beyond how much money they can do immediately. It's also about growing a US fanbase etc.

Should have been a third for Wrexham, was not offside and also would have been a penalty if they hadn’t scored anyway

Awful call by the linesman. Didn't look offside at all.

Would have most likely nailed down the title to Wrexham.
