Ruud van Nistelrooy | Interim Manager

It's a slightly awkward situation now, because Amorim may not have the slightest interest in working with Ruud, but he'll be aware of Ruud's standing within the club and with the fans and may feel some sort of emotional obligation to keep him on!

We can't be sentimental about it, we need to fully back whatever Amorim wants to do and if that means jettisoning Ruud, so be it.
There's every chance that Amorim will want to bring his own men in but those men might not necessarily want to come with him.

I also think people are assuming that the group he'll bring incudes an assistant. There's every chance Ruud stays with some new coaches arriving but not the complete overhaul that people seem to think.

I wondered when the last time was that we scored 5 against a Premier League team in any competition - had to go back over 3 years, August 2021 against Leeds.
What a great day that was. First game of the season, lots of optimism. We had just signed one of the most exciting talents in Europe in Jadon Sancho and Varane was presented to the crowd like some sort of French Gladiator and we battered Leeds.

Things quickly went downhill from there…….

I'm glad he's getting a couple of games and no more. Hope we win, everyone has a nice time, and then onto the next chapter.

This is good to know he is only there for a few games. I am glad INEOS have sorted out an appointment before fans can get excited and the "should we give it to Ruud till end of season" discussions started.

I really like the idea of him being written in the Utd books asa manager. He's a true legend, is he a longterm solution? I guess not (for now). Maybe he is in the future.

But no one is taking this managerial debut at Utd's Old Trafford off of him, and I think that's nice.

I agree. INEOS have done really well to make sure we don’t get into that scenario again. Got a replacement sorted before Ruud even managed his 1st game.

Did McAteer piss in his team mates cornflakes?

Why are the minutes different? Leicester patterns are based between minutes 1-75, whereas United's is 1-66? And are we really suggesting that no other player passed to Rashford bar Dalot?
Not sure this graphic is really useful for anything.

It was great to see him enjoying himself on the touchline. It feels like so long since we've seen a manager kicking every ball and living every moment in the dugout like that.

Scored five against a PL team, EtH never managed that. Fun for a scoring hero to get that result in his first match!

Thought he managed the game very well last night. As a caretaker I suspect he felt a responsibility to go with a strong team, but good substitutions meant hegave minutes to plenty of players who needed them too.

Would make sense to keep him around at least for the rest of this season. To have someone who knows the club, players, league will be useful to Amorim and his staff.

So he’ll get Chelsea, POAK and Leicester. That’s a decent set of fixtures for him, let’s hope we carry on playing like we did last night, minus the silly goals we conceded. It did look good seeing him on the touchline last night.

More goals yesterday than in our last five league games combined can't be a coincidence.

As Ruud said, we were lucky with finishing, deflected free kick, rebound went to Casemiro etc when we were not in the previous games. (West Ham, Fenerbache, Palace)
Sometimes you need a bit of luck, we could have been 4-1 up against West Ham the other day at half time too. I don't think Ruud did anyway particularly different

The main difference with the number of goals scored was we finished our chances this time (+2 goals Vs XG). It's nothing to do with the players not trying, they can't hack the pressure, and with Ten Haag gone, the pressure is off (for now). Being a United players is like no other club, expect maybe Madrid or Barca and most can't hack it.

The mentality is not right with these players, hopefully the new manager can resolve this, but it could just be innate in these players.

Nice win last night. If he can get a point against Chelsea, beat PAOK and then beat Leicester again, that'd be great.

I think the sacking freed the players to be themselves and deliver what they knew they could all along. Long may it continue.

He was in goal twice under ETH too. Didn’t even score 5 in those games combined.

Those weren't cup games against a second string side.

2 games, 2 wins, 4 scored, none conceded.
Sancho even scored in both of those games.

It was so good to see him truly excited on the touchline, I do hope Ruben (if it is to be him) can find a spot for Ruud

It should be 9/9 we are at home to Chelsea no excuses . Small time mentality needs to go
Chelsea have started the season better than us. You can call it small time mentality but I'd be happy with one point atm. Last season or season before that I would have different view.

Or you could call it a new manager bounce. Remember Tottenham going unbeaten in their first 10 games under Ange? We really should be beating Chelsea, especially at home. They have a lot of defensive frailties that we can take advantage of.

Thank God, no Woodward to give him a 5 year contract and 300mil off of last game.
