Kind of excited to see what he can do as interim manager. Happy to have a United man in charge again, even though it shouldn't be permanent.

I'm the least bit excited to see him potentially be a interim manager for us.

Shoe in interim manager.

He’s capable of steadying the ship until a permanent manager is sourced.

Can't really see it going much better than when Rangnick took charge. Rangnick at least had a half decent finisher in Ronaldo and I don't know where goals are going to come from unless Ruud can show our forwards how hit a spherical object into a rectangular hole.

How can people still get excited by interims that were ex players.

I’m convinced people are just judging Ruud based on his poise and the aura he gives off. There are so many posters who speak of Ruud as if he’s some coaching sensation.

Van Persie has the same sort of character and his team got pasted 9-0 the other day. I would even understand if the excitement came from his work at PSV but it doesn’t, it’s mostly due to him being a legend and coming across well. The same reason Ole got the job and we saw how that went.

Not even remotely excited at the prospect of him being manager, even in the short term.

Well he hasn't done a good job so far if his job is to help our attacking players score goals.

Strikes me as similar to Jose overhauling his backroom staff after his second season and being gone by Christmas.

Isn't he already responsible for our attack? Would not be excited at all with him as a interim or god forbid as a permanent manager.

Ole wasn't a bad idea for interim - the only bad idea was that he was given the job long term. He did make everyone playing good and with joy instantly, so a new manager-effect even if it's an interim one should make us better.

People same the same about McKenna under every shit manager ever. You can’t judge an assistant on the manager’s work.

I wouldn't say I'm excited about him stepping up as interim, though I do think it's necessary because I assume we can't get our main candidate in until the summer.

The reason I'm excited is not because he's some briliant manager, but because he's a United man. I think that's important because not everyone seem to understand the pressure playing for/coaching at United. I'll also add that it's very hard to judge how much involvement the assitants have. We saw that with McKenna and Carrick (not that either one of them are United manager material per se).

I have mixed views about Ruud as well. Mainly because I know almost nothing about his coaching capabilities. That is not to say he couldn't be good.

We have Porto and Villa then yet another international break. So those seem to set the timescales.

But I seriously doubt Ten Hag can turn things round at OT. As to what the players think will be interesting. Will they try and save him. We will know pretty soon.

But we can judge McKenna on what he's done since, which is remarkable.

What I like most about Ruud as a potential interim from the almost nothing I know is that he looks fabulous.

this isnt american football to be fair. You cant just take the attack and do your thing then clip it back together with the rest of the team

For anybody interested, here is a piece and video where he explains his style of play at psv, which is about as much as we have to go on

don’t think the players have downed tools which I think is an even more damning indictment of Ten Hag’s tactics. Under previous managers you can sort of tell they didn’t give a shit by the end but to me it looks like they’re all still playing for him, he’s just a bit shit.

My understanding is that Ruud didn't want the PSV job as he didn't feel he was ready. They convinced him to take it anyway, and while he did 'ok' it wasn't great and his playstyle wasn't particularly good. As such I doubt that he's ready for the Utd job or even wants it.

People compare his appointment to Ole, but Ole was more qualified for the job than Ruud is. He had been managing for quite a bit longer and had had decent success (winning Molde the first two league titles in their history).

Ruud would probably be fine for a couple of games to tide us over like Carrick did, but I'd be very worried if the expectation was for him to take control for the rest of the season. In saying that, I'd love for him to prove me wrong.

Well that was exactly my point. People said McKenna was shit because of how shit the team was. Despite all reports saying how highly rated he was. Then he left to become a manager and has done utterly brilliantly. So I was responding to posts in here from being saying our attack is shit, so what does he even do? And I’m saying, it’s not fair to judge him off ETH’s work. He may take over and be great. We can’t know how good at coaching an assistant is based solely off the performance of a team that someone else is leading. As someone who has worked under a lot of idiots in my time, I especially know this to be true.

No one would want him as manager if he wasn't already here as coach. Almost impossible to do worse than Ten Hag though.

Because he used to play for United. That is daft. He is either a strong manager or not, I dont care if he was a United player or not

Yeah, I got your point mate. Just highlighting that we actually know something tangible about KM while we don't have a clue about RVN as manager.

I'm taken back seeing pessimism on this level, I think I'm pretty bad for it, but doing much better than Rangnick must be a certainty? I'd fancy even Southgate could do better than that.

It's a fair point that we've no goalscorer, bring back the days of stop gap striker signings.

There’s absolutely nothing in his coaching history to suggest he should be Man Utd manager, other than his status as a United legend and proximity. I feel like we’ve been here before.

Just ask the many big brains we brought in over the summer to identify the best person for the job. If that happens to be RVN - it won’t - then yay for nostalgia. Otherwise, stop dicking around trying to get the band back together.

He’s more than qualified to be a caretaker. After all, he’s already an assistant here and has previously managed PSV. Give him the keys for the rest of the season so we can use our time to identify the next manager.

Yea hardly need a world class resume to be a caretaker

Even still active players have been caretakers for their sides before.

RvN has experience behind the bench though and actually won a trophy in his lone season managing at PSV before he resigned.

Whats the other bloke we brought in like as a coach? Hasn't he managed teams in Holland?
