Rumour Mill: De Rossi

To be fair 18m aint bad, considering he's practically a marquee.

Not saying we should get him, but he would be a good addition and 18m for an Italian international aint half bad.

18 million for a player whose contract runs out in a year? Sounds steep to me

forgot about that. Hmm makes it much more interesting. Will Roma accept a smaller fee or risk losing him on a free?

£18m is an absolute bargain for someone of his ability. Let's put this into perspective shall we, £18m is around 22m euros, we paid 25m euros for Hargreaves and Nani, and spent 30m euros for Anderson. I highly doubt that we'd be able to land him for a fee that cheap regardless of the fact that he only has a year to run on his contract because without a doubt most of the top clubs will be interested in him if he became available. Not to mention that City will inevitably come in and offer him a ridiculous wage pretty much pushing us out of the market, the only way we'll get him is if he pushes for a move to United.

Isn't this another player trying to get big money from his club?
Wouldn't be surprised if he soon signed a 100k+ contract at Roma

Wouldn't necessarily be my first choice but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at that kind of midfield experience.

My thoughts exactly, would add steal and you can't argue with 18m for that kind of player, regardless of when his contract runs out. 27 isn't a bad age either, meant to be the prime of a players career.

His consolation goal when we smashed them 7-1 was a great finish. Don't really know much about him though, and there are vastly conflicting opinions in this thread so far!

18m for perhaps another 5 years playing time - a quality midfielder I think.

Probably have to weigh it up against £20-25m for Rodwell who's gonna potentially give double the playing time, or at least has a resell value.

yeah but will rodwell be as good as de rossi

Id take de rossi given the choice

feck it lets have both!

Forget the technical side of his game for a minute, he is exactly what we need in midfield i.e somebody who will stand up and be counted and provides some leadership in the middle of the park. He's by no means as average as some people are making out in this thread and is actually a very good player who would adapt to this league quite well I would imagine.

We're not going to buy a proper midfielder for less than £18m in this market.

So? What has that got to do with it? We, arguably, overspent on Carrick so anyone else at the same price should be snapped up?

Point is if you are willing to sploog that much on an average player like Carrick then a player like de rossi should indeed be snapped up. He's a far better footballer than Carrick, he's also a leader which Carrick isn't. Frankly he shits on Carrick from a height.

De Rossi is an all rounder, he SHOULD fit in well in England.

He will sign a new contract on better terms.

I've always been a fan and I'd take him in a heart beat if he doesn't sign a new contract, but I've seen very little of him in the past year or so, except for some decent performances at the tail of last season and two shockers against Shaktar.

Unfortuanetly his vanishing act into Fletchers back pocket put paid to any interest I ever even slightly had in him, I follow Italian football and never understood the fuss made over the lad. After we played them I had my thoughts on him confirmed, he was very overrated and throughout the years he's shown it.

Fletcher has that in him though, he's destroyed better teams than Roma when he's on fire.

yes he is average. If we wan't someone in the middle of the field to get frustrated and foul people then he'd be perfect. He doesn't add anything to the team that we don't have. Fletcher and Carrick are better players.

On what planet is a 27 year old, old?

Christ.

Seconded. His age is not a problem. In fact, it's a virtue as long as we don't overpay for him.

I've been an admirer of De Rossi for quite a few years, not sure I want us to buy him though.

But then I'm not in charge. If it happens it happens.

De Rossi...

Manchester United & Real Madrid target Daniele De Rossi will not leave Roma - former striker Ruggiero Rizzitelli - Goal.com

"The truth is De Rossi won't leave Roma. He is their Bandiera player, the future captain. He is already named as the new captain after Francesco Totti," he told Goal.com.

"De Rossi has already rejected Real Madrid in the past. Two years ago the club had asked for him, but he and [former Roma owners] the Sensi family said no because he is a Roman, a Romanista and he wants to end his career at Roma like Totti.

"His dream is to remain at Roma with the backing of the new owners and the promise of a strong team to challenge."

Not a patch on Keano.

You can sing that.

I wouldn't be too keen to be fair. He's a good player, but not what I reckon we should be looking for.

I'm also not a fan of his tendency to lose the plot and get sent off when things aren't going well. He tends to throw the toys out of the pram a little in terms of discipline.

I read a tweet claiming he was offered to us for 14m plus incentives. The tweeter also claims that Sir Alex is not interested.
