Rugby World Cup 2019 aka Squishy McSquish goes into a meltdown thread

Feels like Wales have nothing to lose now, nobody expects them to win tomorrow it seems. Could suit them.
Really? Everyone at work is expecting SA to blow it tomorrow. Our X-factor plyers like De Klerk and Etzebeth have been average all tournament and our best player at the moment, Kolbe won't play tomorrow. Wales have some injuries themselves but I think they will edge it.

If England win the final, who would get Sports Personality team of the year, the cricket or rugby team?

I suppose when you're the best sporting country in the history of the world, you'll always get people trying to pull you down.

Exactly. We can't help being so fecking great at sport. If the world could just get off our ass about it, that would be fab.

That's good to hear! Wales haven't played well for a while though, and also have injuries. SA were great against Japan.

Wales I think. South Africa have been very strong. But if England maintain their discipline and minimize errors, it would be tough for either opponent.

Edit: as a sporting spectacle I'd probably lean towards England vs South Africa.
We really haven't. I would rather face us if I were England.

Hmmmmm.

If England did win this they'd have done so away from home so you'd think that would make it the bigger deal.

But we'd never won the Cricket World Cup before and the manner of the victory was so dramatic and incredible maybe that will edge it.

It would be a nice dilemma anyway, we used to have years where the idea of a national team winning team of the year was laughable

That's nice.

Like the man said .. not arrogant, just better.

Personally I think it's nice that ye have sport to cling to, even as your country piledrives itself into economic decline, cuts to public services and a fourth successive Tory government. You guys need the morale boost more than the rest of us. :p

Magnificent performance by England, best I’ve seen them play in a long time and a much deserved win. In my book certainly favourites no matter who they play next week. Underhill and Itoje were immense.

On a side note, surely Eddie Jones is the best coach of the last 15 years.

Given the performance today they have to be favourites.

We don't talk about any of that you big spoilsport.

We're fine. Absolutely fine.

Would rather face SA. Wales always seem to find a way to beat us and it would be unbearable in a WC final.

Hopefully those who went off limping are okay.

It's by no means a vintage Springbok side but they're more of an unknown quantity to England (and me) than Wales, who haven't been at their best recently. But I'll take your word for it. Knowing England, they'll lose either way

Incredible performance from England, if they can replicate that in the final then nobody can stop them.

Don't worry, when you lose the semi you can ride on the coattails of our success.
Nice try of being funny. Doesn't make sense though.

Did you ride the 'coattails' of Liverpool's champions League win?

Why stop there?

He's won the 'beating NZ trophy'.

Best ever.
That's a bit disingenuous. He's a very astute coach and highly respected. Debatable if he's "the best" in the past 15 but he's certainly up there.

He’s going to win the World Cup, almost stopped that Woodward English team, instrumental in getting SA the 2007 World Cup, put Japan on the right path imo. By far the best

As part of the province of Greater England, Wales are welcome to share in a bit of our glory.

I think it would be an even tighter call if Wales were to win it. Considering it will be Wales first.

And you lot claim not to be arrogant

It can't be easy living in the shadow of the greatest sporting nation on Earth so your hostility is understandable.

No offence taken.

Look, when you're this good there's no point fannying about pretending to be humble.

It's already ours, have a place for it in the cabinet and everything. The first stage is acceptance mate.

The best bit about being an England fan in any sport is the other home nations fans being so bitter.

Makes the good moments better than ever.

Being a Scotsman, do I like to see England get beat? Of course. However, I rooted for them in the cricket World Cup as there are a lot of players I admire and I genuinely like watching them. I also admire them in rugby, and while I’m a big fan of the All Blacks England were magnificent today and deserved the win without a doubt.

It might come from the fact I lived in England for 14 years, and I might be alone, but I certainly don’t feel bitter about England. I wish them the best for next week, more than anything I just like to watch good games of rugby.
