Rugby World Cup 2019 aka Squishy McSquish goes into a meltdown thread

Watched the second half. What a fantastic absorbing game.

There was a person on here that was adamant on an England win ahead of the match. Well done to him making England the favourite.

Surprised at the commentators calling it such a huge upset. It always felt like a pretty even game if you take out the history.

NZ were battered though. It could have been 30-0

England smashed it. NZ only scored, or even looked like scoring, due to a basic England timing error on the line out. Should have been 0 points on the board for the All Blacks.
I'm not sure how it finished, but up until then NZ had only been in England's 22 three times. Crazy.

Eddie Jones is yet again a thorn in NZ's side.

What a defensive masterclass by England. Technically very good despite a few errors. They were unlucky not to score more points.

New Zealand were made to look poor, still can't believe it. Will be a fantastic final vs Wales or South Africa.

It's a genuinely great win, the type of game that coaches dream about. England convincingly dominated on all rugby fundamentals.

It's funny how the two mates, Jake White and Eddie Jones, are probably the only coaches able to create that type of teams over and over but are also the most disliked coaches around.

Fantastic performance. Didn't let NZ into it at all.

Not sure who I'd want in the final now; and not sure I could handle the nerves of possibly losing in a WC final to Wales.

You think? I think it was all front foot rugby. All the class came from England.
Goes both ways. Was as impressed with the defensive end as the offensive.

They squeezed the life out of them on and off the ball in both directions.

Superb, consummate performance.

this was one of the weaker all blacks sides in the last decade, they didn’t win the rugby championship this year and have lost a few times to northern hemisphere sides. Nonetheless they were the favourites and it’s a well deserved win for England.

you're much stronger than both. Wouldn't be too worried.

I know nothing about rugby.

Who would you rather face? Who would we have a better chance of beating?

Feels like Wales have nothing to lose now, nobody expects them to win tomorrow it seems. Could suit them.

Wales I think. South Africa have been very strong. But if England maintain their discipline and minimize errors, it would be tough for either opponent.

Edit: as a sporting spectacle I'd probably lean towards England vs South Africa.

I'd rather face Wales if you look at the game in isolation; but that game comes with the risk of being brutally ridiculed for years if we lose.

Sounds like the usual nonsense you get from England without winning anything.

This type of nonsense is one of the reasons I usually want England to lose. It's not even a thing

So you both base your opinions of a team on what a minority of fans say?

Did you guys also watch the actual players after the performance? Very little celebration.

Interesting parallel to the Cricket team.

We were appalling and humiliated in the 2015 World Cup, going out in the group stage then came back in 2019 and won it.

Can the Rugby side do the same?

I suppose when you're the best sporting country in the history of the world, you'll always get people trying to pull you down.
