Rugby Union Discussion - Six Nations Time

Whatever happens, I'm quite happy with the performance. The discipline has improved and the strength of the current team seem to confirm themselves but we need to find a way to improve our ability to control possession and territory.

Quite a few neck roll calls in the matches this weekend too. Good to see them getting called.
A neck roll to me is a headlock where the player is wrenched away from the breakdown…..not when the arm is loosely around the shoulders and the head moves a bit sidewards

Brilliant game, France standing up in the face of a collapsing scrum and a brilliant Kiwis team

But there is a dangerous cleanup. Shoulder to the head without binding which in theory can be a red.
The clearout and the ‘neck roll’ are two separate things?

It’s not a neck roll. You can make an argument for dangerous clearout but that would depend on the contact point.

That's why I said "but". And no it doesn't depend on the contact point, he entered a ruck without binding and without staying on his feet, it's a penalty and a dangerous cleanup.

Here you have the law 20.a from the Foul Play chapter:

  1. Dangerous play in a ruck or maul.
    1. A player must not charge into a ruck or maul. Charging includes any contact made without binding onto another player in the ruck or maul.

Weird run of form England are on. So many close and exciting games which they have ultimately lost, in the main from winning positions.

Real lack of concentration and focus over the duration.

Don’t mind me mate, I’d been out yesterday watching local MMA (my sister-in-law choked some poor lass out in the first round) and I’d had about 10 pints…..clearly felt like arguing about random shit

geez, how many had she had?

Dear Wallabies,

Please beat Wales to keep the grand slam dream alive and prove that last week's wonderful result and impressive performance against England was no flash in the pan.

Weren’t England playing with an advantage before the neck roll?

Yes, however foul play (in this case the neck roll) will be penalised instead of a technical offense. So, yes England were under advantage for a technical offense by the Boks (i think it was for the Boks being offside from memory) but the neck roll essentially wipes out England's advantage, and the neck roll is what gets penalised instead.

fecks sake Wales, you’re not meant to let a second row run it in from halfway

BBC

“We've already had the new 20-minute red card law given an outing during this autumn series, and there are a few more in the pipeline. Four new laws aimed at making rugby union faster and more entertaining will be tested around the world from the start of next year.

Kickers will only be allowed to take 60 seconds over a conversion, in line with the one-minute 'shot clock' that already exists for penalties.

Elsewhere, crooked line-out throws will not be penalised if the opposition does not contest the ball and, like scrums, match officials will form up the set-piece within 30 seconds.

Scrum-halves will also be given more protection around scrums, rucks and mauls to ensure a supply of cleaner, quicker ball and faster phases of play.

The laws have already been tested in a series of World Rugby events, including the summer's U20 World Championship and the Pacific Nations Cup.

A decision on keeping those 20-minute red cards - where an offending player can be replaced with another off the bench after 20 minutes - has been delayed until after the autumn.”

Nothing I’d be completely against… the scrum half one feels a bit NFL QB ish.

losing two three tries with a man advantage is shocking.

going lateral and close to the touchline (which gives the opponent an “extra player”) is just as poor.

:(
Yeah that was weak as feck. Australia basically haven’t got out of second gear most of the match. Quick blitz at the start, then another when Wales got close

Said to my dad earlier “they’ll get 50”. Shame I can’t bet on United/Wales defeats
Bleak times for Wales. Which usually means a grand slam, somehow.
 Thanks, that’s me cheered me up a little.

ffs, hurry back PL.

Gatland can’t continue but the WRU are skint and rotten.

I think the 20 mins off the field for the yellow upgrade to red is lenient considering they have already served a considerable part of it for the yellow. The Wales Fiji match a very dangerous tackle for a yellow upgraded to a red for a Fiji player and it didnt feel right the player coming back on after that.

Yeah, agreed. The 20 minutes should really start at the end of the yellow.

The player doesn't come back on.
The team is allowed to substitute them after 20mins.

Still doesn't feel right for a very dangerous tackle situation.
