Rugby Union 23/24 Discussion

Haven’t watched England for a while as we’ve got a knack for bringing every team down to our level and making it a crap spectacle even for a neutral. Think I missed a good one today though. Would be nice to carry this on but I won’t get my hopes up just yet.

Great to see Italy get the win though. Can’t be nice to get hammered year after year. They’ve improved massively and their competitiveness will only make the Six Nations a better competition. Hopefully they build on it.

Today was a great watch, if anything England played the more progressive rugby.

Annoying.

Was also irritating that the England winger clearly stepped in touch before recycling the ball in the lead up to their last try.

And that is the extent of my sour grapes for the evening.

Other than those aimed in Conor fecking Murray’s direction anyway…

I was wondering why they didn't show any replays of that on Furlong. It looked bad in real time.

Nice. I think back to all the times I’ve seen English fans being called arrogant.

Well If you think stating facts is arrogant then fair enough. Maybe being the underdog doesn't suit you. Ireland have been the underdog more times than I care to remember but we're definitely the best team in the 6 nations right now and it'll be a serious upset if we don't make it over the line

I have to say I was thrilled in the last 10 minutes to see Murray getting on the ball more.
It’s a bit sad how far he’s fallen. I never held him in that high esteem but I never though I’d be so relieved as an oppo to see him involved in the game

He shouldn’t have got on the pitch. We were bitten on the arse by the 6-2 split. Nobody to blame but ourselves though.

Been a while since I’ve been so angry at a decision made by a player on the team I support. 90 fecking seconds left and he gives possession back to ye. FFS.

Yes it was very kind of him. It’s have been maybe 3-5 recycles and then booted into touch

Yeah that first HIA fecked at least a few versions of the game plan.

Smith on the bench for them was a superb option the way the game panned out.

Kind of? Up until that drop goal (which was on a very kickable penalty advantage anyway) he hadn’t done much except get stepped by Keenan and flattened by Lowe when he was last man. I don’t think he’s a good enough defender at this level.

Mind you, same could be said about Crowley.

Ah just to have someone with his creativity in such a tight finale. I'm not saying it was great strategy as much as a circumstancial gift.

Throwing himself to the ground just to be completely fine. Not trying to get anyone punished was he?

reading the last page or so, i have no idea why some people are so anti-english.

interesting day with united winning through penalties and england doing their level best to lose by missing them. luckily the cricket was abjectly shit, otherwise i might have been slightly proud of my sports teams today.

You don’t think England raised their game today?!?
England played much better today, after two weeks of solid training under a new manager, with a few players returning, at Twickenham. They certainly played much better than we’ve seen so far under Borthwick, but I don’t think they somehow managed to raise their game today, but weren’t motivated against Scotland. Sorry, I don’t think Ireland are that important to us.

The foot in touch is fair enough, but I'm not sure there's much in the Furlong one. I'd have to see a better slo mo. Ultimately England were better on the day so fair play to them.

Come on. England had major motivation today and played at a much higher level than we've seen so far in the championship. That must have just been coincidence though.

He launched himself into a ruck, it's supposed to be an automatic penalty. The only question is whether it's a yellow/bunker or not.

I don’t understand. You seem to assume it’s a fact that you’ll win the championship next week? That’s arrogance.

So England didn’t have motivation to win the Calcutta cup and stay undefeated in the six nations. It must have been the mighty Ireland that bought the best out of us. Thanks for that.

Well I'm not so up on the rules to be fair. If that's trueb then I'm feeling a little hard done by.

He committed two infringements when it comes to joining a ruck. He didn't stay on his feet when he joined the ruck and he didn't bind with a teammate or opponent.

I always complain about this kind of actions because they are easy to ref, they are dangerous and they are cynical.

England were the better team for much of the game. They seemed more up for it than Ireland, which was surprising given what was at stake.
A strange decision by Ireland to kick 90 seconds to play, every time we managed to get our noses in front we kept giving the initiative back to an England side hungry to take it.
A few hometown decisions in a tight game that could have went either way but most Irish rugby fans will agree if we had won it would have been against the run of play.
There were far too many last ditch tackles by Ireland, the game was mostly England on the front front and Ireland staying in the game.

Manny Meafou starting for France tomorrow @JPRouve? Could we see him paired with Tuilagi for one of the most outrageous second row pairings ever? Who would you lift at the lineout?

Ireland will be favourites next week. Do you disagree?
No you’re favourites. However you said very clearly that you’ll win next week, which, believe it or not, is an opinion not a fact

Bizarre. Maybe this is how you all feel when we’re discussing the England football team.

It’s an obvious penalty and maybe a red card. And Furlong’s a tough bastard who is able to bounce back to his feet after getting a bang in the end.

Anyway. It doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The better team won. So the result is fair regardless.
Obvious foul, maybe a red, yes.

But Furlong throws himself as well, which is usually what you do to get someone sent off/in trouble. It's okay to say he did.

Well yeah if Scotland win it'll be a serious upset. I firmly believe we'll have far too much for them. How is that even controversial?

“We'll win the championship next week so it's all good” is being presented by yourself as a forgone conclusion. Stop trying to pretend that’s anything other than arrogance. If it was posted by an English football fan, you’d have a thread 5 pages long complaining about it.

You’ll most likely win seen as it’s only the world cups youse choke in (couldn’t resist).

Surely they can lift each other?

Otherwise my guess would be the likes of Ollivon, Gros, Flament, Boudehent or Woki.
