Rugby League - Super League 2011

Great Try from Leeds
Fantastic break from Burrow, and an excellent pass from McGuire, saw his man and picked him out.

Brilliant game this, one of the best of the season, maybe the best

18-18

Huge decision, must be a knock-on though, unless they give benefit of the doubt

EDIT
It was a knock-on from the video, but it's like we see in cricket all the time, the cameras make decisions look wrong at times if you see what I mean, he should have had to make an on-field decision imo

We see it in cricket all the time, when you super slow mo those low catches, they appear like drops

I do think though they got the correct decision, but the ref should make an on-field decision

Leeds win 26-24

So much for me thinking Warrington would win the whole thing, immense display from Leeds, best game I've seen this season by a long way, the pace at times from Leeds and the ferocious tackling at times from Warrington

Great game, shame so few people like it really, their loss I guess

Great game indeed. Leeds really played well. Respect to both teams for great play-off performances.
It's just a shame that an important game was decided by that prick Steve Ganson, as a Huddersfield Giants supporter I dislike that man with every fibre of my being.

Any of you lads ready to watch some real rugby league tomorrow? :p

NRL Grand Final! Manly Sea Eagles versus New Zealand Warriors

Poor performance tonight in my opinion, if we played anything like we have done the majority of the season we'd be at Old Trafford.

What did Ganson get wrong? He went to video on most decisions, though i was half cut before the game even started so I fully blame the scouse twat for the defeat. Didn't King cross the line? Strongest team out of running now, 5th place won't have much hope in the final unfortunately.

Nah, I'm just moaning that a good game was decided by a silly penalty.
It was probably the right call, I just don't like the guy. If you were a Giants fan you'd have an irrational hatred of half the Super League referees too.

Fair play to Leeds; excellent in the second half. After Saints and Wigan knock seven bells out of each other today, they can't be written off for the final either.

Agree with Rufus though, it was a sub-par performance from Warrington. I think they must have expended a lot of nervous energy because they looked shattered towards the end of the game.

No probably about it, Myler was plenty offside
Plus the linesman (what are they called in league) gave it

And King did appear to be short

I thought the ref was ok, he added to the game imo in the sense that he didn't break it up with endless penalties, I thought watching it he could have given a lot more to both sides.

Anyone know what the penalty count was?

No excuses for last night, the ref got all the big calls spot on, and even gave the majority of 50-50's to us, we and we alone were the architects of our own downfall.

To sum it up, we choked, simple as that. The way we started the game gave Leeds all the encouragement they needed, Hodgson let the ball bounce in Leeds first set, Briers dropped a dolly on our first attack, Carvell's brainfart of a ball steal with two others in attendance, Bridge kicking the restart after conceding a soft try out on the full, I could go on. Despite this we got ourselves into a leading position 3 times but lacked the courage or belief to execute the way we have all season(when the death or glory element was absent). We played with fear and lack of conviction against a side that had been there and done it many times before and we payed dearly for it.

I stated earlier in the thread that this season was THE big chance for Wire to win the SL title, and right now, it feels like it may never come again. I'm devastated and it'll take a long, long time to digest this result and that performance. The players reaction at the end said it all, total heartbreak, and with key players like Hodgson, Morley, Briers ageing and the likes of King and Anderson moving on, I can't seem to shake off the thought that we've kissed goodbye to a chance to really build something at Warrington rather than wallow in a season of swashbuckling rugby and ridiculous point scoring that all came to precisely nothing.

The scars from last night will take a long time to heal for all concerned with our club, we bottled it without a shadow of a doubt.

Looks like this thread died after Wire got knocked out. Anyone else going to the final tomorrow?

Maybe due to the fact, no disrespect to the two club's intended, that the whole idea of a season's work being rewarded has been made a mockery of. As it currently stands, there is no difference at all finishing 1st than there is 4th, there is no reward for consistency with a better chance than those who sleepwalk through a season and only bother to play in September/October. No sour grapes here, just a point that I think has been missed by many although this wasn't why we crashed out on the night, that was due to a poor performance borne out of a mental breakdown of All Black proportions.

I also think that most neutrals would have liked to have seen us and our brand of rugby grace OT for the first time, Leeds v Saints is just a bit of a groundhog day tbh, only difference being that they aren't the best teams as they were a few years ago.

Hope Leeds win but Saints will IMO.

Yes mate, I signed up for a ticket before the Wire game and I'm stuck with it!

Re WireRed, yeah I can't argue with anything you've said there, but that's how sport has become over the last few years, in an obvious attempt to maintain interest to the end of the season. (Where was the fairness in Liverpool being regarded as the best club in Europe in 2005 when they finished fifth in the PL, a colossal 37 points behind the winners).

Personally, I'll be supporting Saints tonight, not out of sour grapes but because they have been very unlucky in the Grand Finals of the last few years. Plus I don't like Leeds!!

I'm torn on this one, I'm sat with a couple of Leeds mates so sort of want them to lose else I won't here the end of it all night, though obviously I don't want saints to win.

Agreed WireRed, it's not the final this season deserves. I'd think even the neutrals would want to see Warrington - Wigan. It's hitting home all over again today that we're not going to the final :(

The BRILLIANT Rob Burrow

Great game I thought, Leeds have shown tremendous belief, character, and mental toughness to put together this run and round it off with the GF trophy. I'm still bitter that they got there at our expense but you can't deny the winning culture and big game mentality that they've got within that squad, I wish we had that quality at the moment but we aren't quite there yet, I include Saints in that aswell because they've consistently won games when their backs are against the wall or when a better team has played them in a big game, 6 GF's in a row is a superb level of consistency that everyone else can aspire to.

Looking ahead to next year, Saints will improve with so many youngsters bound to get better and wiser, Leeds will be Leeds(strong mentally/tough to beat when it gets serious etc), Wigan could struggle post-Maguire IMO, and as for my team, I hope we can save some of our best rugby for the games that count and come back stronger, wiser, and more determined after the painful setback last week, whether we will or not with a core of key players that are ageing is something I'm a little unsure of atm. It's a shame that there doesn't look to be anyone else realistically able to win the league other than those, Huddersfield could do damage but just don't look GF material for whatever reason.

Early prediction for next season...

1.Warrington
2.Saints
3.Leeds
4.Wigan

With a Wire v Saints final(I hope).

Great game last night.

Thought Leeds showed incredible resilience to strike back after Saints' dominant start to the second half (which lasted almost 20 minutes if I remember correctly). Burrow was the game-changer again from an attacking point of view, but their defence throughout was fantastic.

It was a good atmosphere considering these sides have been to the GF so many times, and it made me wonder how much better it would have been if Wire had made it.
