Rugby League - Super League 2011

So, Warrington can concede points

Their defence has been good again from what I saw, missed first 15mins, but I think some of that was Leeds, would have expected Saints/Wigan to have scored quicker than Leeds did when they had that pressure.

Mightily impressive from Warrington tonight. Michael Monaghan was the star of the show for me, but it was an all-round top performance. Apart from the last ten minutes of the first half, it was a totally dominant display.

Even that little spell was a result of the ref caving into the South Stand's constant pleas for soft penalties and to "even up" the penalty count rather than Leeds managing to get on top of us off their own back.

I don't think I've ever seen such a bunch of mard booty's like that Leeds team, Sinfield, Bailey, JJB, complete gobshites the lot of em

Not sure about some of the team selections by England tonight
Think there's a couple there on name rather than form

EDIT
Although, saying that
How is Monaghan not been playing, he's the Man of Steel (so far) for me from what I've seen this season

Warrington lose at home to Salford
And Wigan are a kick away from losing away to Cas

Backing up showing up their squad? Or just one of those things

It was always going to be a big ask for so many Warrington and Wigan players to play twice in a weekend, especially with those weather conditions.

Physical toll certainly played a part, we were atrocious in the first 40 but in the second half we plummeted to new depths and Wigan's second half collapse along with that certainly add fuel to that particular conclusion.

Huddersfield got turned over today by Wakey aswell, so the top sides certainly were inhibited by the Exiles match. What has to be considered is that the England and Exiles participants spent all week away from the clubs and so pre-game training, tactical, and physical preparation was minimal for all involved and such is the quality of SL, if you are a fraction out of sorts, you'll get beat, that along with the ridiculous situation of playing 48 hours after an international were huge factors in the top sides not performing today.

State of Origin 2...
NSW 18 Queensland 8
What a brilliant game - catch the highlights on Sky if you've missed it.

80mins

Wow. I repeat Wow
In a modern day game where interchange props are so important, that is immense.

Wigan are schooling St Helens
Absolutely schooling them, immense defence and a great kicking game
Saints are rarely kicking it from in front of their own 40

Big games at the top this weekend, possible SF games with Wigan vs Huddersfield on Saturday, but Warrington vs Saints first on Friday

I'm interested to see how Hock does, as it seems he will be involved for Wigan

I think neither game will live up to the hype to be honest. Huddersfield will struggle for the next few weeks without Brough, Saints just look a player or two short of reaching OT again, meanwhile Wigan are starting to find some form and as mentioned have Hock and Fielden to return iminently, and Wire(without appearing to be biased)have been the best team in the competition across the season. I see two home wins this weekend and the chase for 1st to become a 2 horse race between Warrington and Wigan while the Giants try to hold off Saints for 3rd(which I believe they'll just manage).

Maybe

I agree, Warrington have been the best team so far, but Wigan do look to be coming right at the right time. It's clear that these two are better than the rest, but still be nice to get a look at what appears to be the likely SFs later in the season

What a game at the Halliwell Jones tonight! We had no right to expect that sort of game in the conditions, and Saints can feel a bit aggrieved to have lost (although it's nice to witness a rare occasion when they are on the receiving end!).

Wigan have really stepped it up the last two weeks, taking apart Saints and Huddersfield

Yep, appears they've geared their training/focus towards this little batch of matches...Saints, Huddersfield, Leeds, game in hand v Cas, and then the cup QF at Wire, I expect after that they'll tail off slightly before attempting to peak for the play-offs. Same goes for Wire, I think Smithy will be using each training session and game over the next few weeks as a build up to that huge cup game against Wigan. Winner of that will probably go on to lift the cup, loser will probably go on to finish top of the league.

Just watched a re-run of the Super League Show, and in particular the Wigan - Leeds game. McGuire went over for what might have been the winner for Leeds, only for it to be disallowed by the video ref due to the ball touching the ground as he kicked through.

Really fortunate for Wigan, as Sam Tomkins probably caused the slight delay on McGuire's kick by tackling the man without the ball!

I really don't see why it was chalked off personally. Will they start ruling drop goals as knock ons now or what? Because it was effectively a missed attempt at a drop goal.

Wigan did definitely get some big decisions go their way, but watching it, I felt the first half particularly all the little decisions went Leeds' way

But they got lucky with a forward pass at the beginning of the second half

They clearly got the decision right with the try late on, as it wasn't a drop goal attempt. And Tomkins is well within his rights to try and tackle him there

I'll be honest, after donkeys years of watching the game, I wasn't aware of that rule! I can't see any reason to distinguish between a drop goal attempt and a kick-through such as the one McGuire attempted.

Anyway, State of Origin 3 tomorrow, the decider. Should be a great game.

Yeh, will have to catch some highlights of that at some point
Will be an immense game, I'd like NSW to win as I'm sick of Queensland winning the series, but would like to see Lockyer go out on a high

Think they'll (Queensland) win tomorrow by 4-6

Who can prove otherwise? It was a drop goal action and he reacted quickest to the "missed" attempt. I'd have given it, even against Wire, why? Because like I said, it cannot be disproved that it was a DG attempt and it was a fantastic bit of improvisation that deserved the reward of a try.

I didn't actually see the game, so I don't know how the game panned out or who got what from the refs, but the McGuire try should have stood IMO.

Didn't get to see the State of Origin game live but glad I've recorded it, having heard the scoreline...

Queensland 34 NSW 24

As it's impossible to kick a drop-goal from there at the posts
There's got to be a degree of common sense, his intention was clear to kick the ball through, he knocked it on

Whilst I agree it was clearly not a drop goal attempt, I think the common sense conclusion would be that McGuire did NOT knock on, ie lose control of the ball.

He clearly released the ball from the hand with the intention of kicking it, and a contributory factor in the ball touching the ground before his boot made connection was Tompkins' challenge, which in turn was commenced before McGuire took possession.

I think the right decision was made there, Leeds' fans can have complaints with other decisions, just not that one

Wigan got a bit lucky last night as well, as that should have been a try (benefit of the doubt) to my mind. I am certain they still would have won, but just would have kept it closer and more nervy

Going to be tough for both sides this weekend, to play three games in basically a week. You'd have to think Wigan would have enough squad to get past Harlequins, but would think Cas may lose to Bradford

Warrington are completely dominating Huddersfield

Can't wait for the Challenge Cup game against Wigan, these two are, by a country mile, the best two sides in the country. The others aren't close

Great comeback from Huddersfield

6 pts down and just made a 40-20, but really the injuries to Warrington and size of the Huddersfield forwards is starting to tell

Phew! Warrington did their best to throw the game away in the 2nd half with regular handling errors. Considering the atrocious conditions though, it was a good game, and Wire were superb in the first half.

What is that pillock Phil Clarke on about now? "Wire have proved they aren't an 80 minute team again". OK Phil, I guess 6-24 at Wigan, 18-25 at Saints, 6-42 at Leeds, 35-26 against Saints, and 28-16 win over Hudds aswell as the regular 50+ pointers we've stuck on some of the SL also rans counts for feck all when compared with the scintilating form this season of his beloved Wigan...Oh wait

Yeh. Sky talk out of their arse, particularly on the Rugby league, they're always trying to generate controversy and talking points

Last night was because Warrington had some guys injured which limited their replacement options and the big, powerful Huddersfield pack were able to come on strong

But as I say, can't wait for the Challenge Cup game, hope the conditions are bone-dry as it could be a brilliant encounter that could go either way

Salford threw away any chance of play-offs Friday night, getting twatted by Hull FC :(

Very much looking forward to the Warrington-Wigan game this weekend in the Challenge Cup

The way these two sides have separated themselves at the top of the table the past month or so shows how far ahead of the rest they are

Yep, should be a great game and as you say, undoubtedly between the best two sides around at the moment. There's a danger for the side that wins this one that they might be disadvantaged in the later stages of the season in terms of the the play-offs due to heavy commitments.
