Rugby League - 2024 edition

Lucky bugger, bet that was a hell of a watch live. Were there any points you thought “shit, this is in the balance”? HKR had opportunities, they just couldn’t breach that amazing defence

The drop goal before half time to put us seven ahead calmed it hugely, as it didn't look like a game in which either team would get lots of tries. When they went back to within five it was nasty again, but once we restored the seven point lead I thought they looked a little bit desperate and the writing was on the wall.

A word on Old Trafford: we were in the Stretford End and had no access to the one big screen in the SW corner of the ground, and they didn't even put a match clock on the LED strip at the side of us (nice big Betfred logo though, thanks for that!). I've always loved the fantastic history of Old Trafford and am no particular fan of these big bowl stadiums, but there's no doubt at all that the latter are kitted out for a modern match day experience while OT is feeling like a relic in the days of video replays.

It looked like Peter’s had told them at half time to try and get more offloads away. The amount of forced offloads that really weren’t on in the second half was mental and just kept turning over possession.

Funnily enough, my lads just played for West Hull u15’s and they’ve spent the morning doing exactly the same fecking thing…..forcing low % offloads and turning the ball over. Maybe it’s a disease swept over the city

Yes the second half was full of forced plays from them. In their build up they moved the ball well enough, but near our line and on the last tackle they lacked composure. Our defensive reads were tiptop as well, I'd give Keighran particular praise in that regard, and Smith's kicks controlled the game.
