Rugby 5 Nations 2011

Put your money on England after that performance!

France were outplayed from start to finish today. Ireland i'm afraid were outdone by poor decision making from D'Arcy, who committed the schoolboy error of hanging your arm out to dry when making a tackle. I said before the game, overrated.
Bring to that the shit hands and knock ons and conceding silly penalties which gave France 18 points.

Thought Servat though was immense for France. But ireland defence was solid throughout.

Horrible spoiling tactics though by France in the last 5 minutes and deliberately going to ground.

Anyone think the referee was a bit Over The Top today with his decision making? Bit whistle happy when advantage would be a bit easier. Even the biased old cnut Brian Moore commented on it

the referee was terrible yeah but so were Ireland

England for the Grandslam i think. I only hope we can beat england at landsdowne to deny them

I don't think England will beat Ireland at the Aviva if Ireland play like that again. Ireland give away so many stupid penalties though.

We should have beaten France today. Very poor loss.

Yea highlighted that at the start, we gifted France points today. Are you going to the Aviva for the game? They were selling at £120 a ticket and then came to our club 3 weeks ago offering us tickets for £60 because the clubs complained they couldnt flog their allocations

What a shambles. I'm sick to my stomach after that match. We scored three tries against France on one of their off form days, at home and still manage to lose.
Italy played better against us last week than France did yesterday and we still managed to lose the game.
We need to address some home truths here:
Sexton is not International standard.
Darcy should not pull on an Irish jersey again.
Forwards need to learn the rules.

Ireland and Irish teams seem to have a really bad rep with refs and so they need to be whiter than white contesting scrums and rucking. The management and the pack need to sit down and start coping themselves on as the penalty count is costing us games.

I have no idea why he's preferred to O'Gara.

Because Kidney wants to move away from Irelands tactical kicking game to running everything with twenty loop passes thrown in for good measure until someone knocks the ball on and Ireland have to scrum and give a penalty away from which the opposition will more often than not get 3 points.

I think Ireland have a real problem over the next couple of seasons, they do not seem to have players coming through who are good enough to replace the old guard. Not only that, but as you say, your forwards haven't a clue about the rules!

Will certainly make Sunday's match at Murrayfield interesting, depending which Scotland turns up. Good to see Robinson taking some initiative and dropping Parks in favour of Jackson.

Yeah, very big game for both sides. Parks destroyed us last year so I am a little bit happy if he is not starting.

England team to face France: Ben Foden (Northampton); Chris Ashton (Northampton), Mike Tindall (Gloucester, captain), Shontanye Hape (Bath), Mark Cueto (Sale); Toby Flood (Leicester), Ben Youngs (Leicester); Andrew Sheridan (Sale), Dylan Hartley (Northampton), Dan Cole (Leicester), Louis Deacon (Leicester), Tom Palmer (Stade Francais), Tom Wood (Northampton), James Haskell (Stade Francais), Nick Easter (Harlequins).
Replacements: Steve Thompson (Leeds), Alex Corbisiero (London Irish), Simon Shaw (Wasps), Hendre Fourie (Leeds), Danny Care (Harlequins), Jonny Wilkinson (Toulon), Matt Banahan (Bath).

France: Clement Poitrenaud (Toulouse); Yoann Huget (Bayonne), Aurelien Rougerie (Clermont), Yannick Jauzion (Toulouse), Vincent Clerc (Toulouse); Francois Trinh-Duc (Montpellier), Dimitri Yachvili (Biarritz); Thomas Domingo (Clermont), William Servat (Toulouse), Nicolas Mas (Perpignan), Julien Pierre (Clermont), Lionel Nallet (Racing-Metro), Thierry Dusautoir (Toulouse, captain), Imanol Harinordoquy (Biarritz), Sebastien Chabal (Racing-Metro).
Replacements: Guilhem Guirado (Perpignan), Sylvain Marconnet (Biarritz), Jerome Thion (Biarritz), Julien Bonnaire (Clermont), Morgan Parra (Clermont), Damien Traille (Biarritz), Alexis Palisson (Brive)

The French have had a late injury to Medard there best fullback big loss to them also Parra has been dropped to the bench for Yachvili. IMO the French have picked a predictable team against England like they usually do with a number of changes I think England have a very good chance to win this.

He was awful against Wales.

The inclusion of Jackson suggests Robinson is wanting to play a more expansive game rather than rely on Parks' tactical kicking.

If Scotland sort out their pack, then they'll win by 10.

Apparently the French coach said that nobody liked the English. I don't think he realizes that everybody finds the French despicable.

Judging by our recent performances, and the match against the Scots last year, we will give away alot of penalties. A good kicker will kill us. How is Jackson's boot? I don't know much about him.

This is a pretty good England team. Great to have someone like Johny on the bench to bring in..

Great win for England. I thought the French were strong but made mistakes at the crucial moments. Then again the conditions didn't suit the new England passing style.

Why the hell can't France feck up like that against Ireland!

They did. We just gave them too many panalties. Same again today. Shocking discipline. If we are going to cheat then don't get caught. See Richie McCaw.

Can't understand why Robinson took off Jackson so early into the 2nd half (unless he's picked up an injury) because we played much better with him dictating things. Earned a start against England for sure.

How on earth an Irish player did not end up in the bin is beyond me, Jacobsen was somewhat unfortunate to be carded.

Frustrating defeat really...another poor 6 Nations.

First time I've read this thread, some very harsh opinions on Irish players here Imo. First of all Darcy is past it now but at his prime he was a great player, definitely not overrated. I'm very surprised people have have suggested Sexton isn't international, literally the first time I've heard anyone say that. While I'm from Leinster I go to university in Limerick, a stronghold of Munster rugby. Its hardly his fault if someone knocks it on later on in a phase after he has done some good work. He does fine with Leinster so if anything is wrong its that Ireland don't have the players to play that way, however thats the direction that rugby is moving in so even if the performances at the moment are below par it will hopefully benefit us in the longrun.

Anyway the reason I came on the thread is because I'm travelling to Cardiff to go to the match tomorrow, will be a tough one for the Irish. If the Irish team that faced France show up we should win, the Ireland that faced Scotland and Italy probably wouldn't be so lucky as to get a result against Wales. Any other Irish from here travelling over?

Don't even think of dragging me into the Munster Leinster bullshit. It's embarrassing.

Sexton has had more than enough opportunities to perform at International level but he has cracked under pressure to often. He does not have the skill or conposure with the boot that O'Gara has. In fact he is miles away from it. Kidney is too eager to have him starting at 10 and it is a huge mistake. Continue to have ROG as starting 10 and introduce Sexton as a sub until his head is right.

Darcy has had one good six nations and lived off the reputation since. He has been shambolic this year in a green shirt.

I agree with everything you've said, move BOD to 12 and bring Earls, with his pace to burn, in the more attacking 13 shirt. Hopefully by that time the counter attacking G.Murphy will be fit and we can have Fitzgerald and Bowe on the Flanks. I would start O'Gara and Stringer if we are really looking at throwing the ball around.

Drop D' Arcy and Leamy from the squad and bring in Jennings. Leamy's only skill is giving away penalties ffs. O'Callaghan too is running out of time.

Great win for Italy

I hate the fact the Ireland match is on at the same time as the United one, have to do some quick channel switching

Yeah bad call by the ref and lino but that try is not the exuse we lost. It was there to be won even after than.
Some people need to be culled form that squad and fast or the WC will be another joke.

Awful call by the ref, but Ireland were shite so that's not an excuse. What the hell was Wallace thinking in the last minute? That was a nailed on try before he tried to get it five yards closer. Ridiculous.

He had no faith in the man who was to step up and take the conversion. A damning indictment if ever there was one. It is unforgiveable though.
Sexton and Fitzgerald were shocking today in particular the latter who may escape the headlines due to Sexton's missed sitter and the try that should not have stood. Fitzgerald kicked so much ball away that he actually caused his teammates heads to drop. You could see the collective shoulders lump after one particular kick.
Bowe or Earls at 15 please and keep Fitzgerald on the wing if we are short along the back three. Kidney should know this.
McFadden at 12 or move BOD to 12 and Earls to 13 and put McFadden back on the wing.
