Rugby 2019 Discussion

I think it crosses the line into hate when you’ve been warned about it previously but continue to spout nonsense in the way that he is. Absolute plum and only has himself to blame.
He's stupid for posting it alright, and again while i dont agree, i respect its against his religious beliefs, and if thats how it feels, so be it.

I guess Izzy really wanted to go to France or Japan and avoid World Cup failure with the Wallabies.

Not sure what the eligibility rules are but I'm pretty sure people are allowed to change nations. Happy to be corrected.
Only way is the "sevens loophole" and he definitely doesn't qualify for it.
This loophole allows players who have represented either their country's top or second-tier XVs team or senior sevens team to switch allegiance to another nation, provided they have a passport for the second country and have completed a three-year international stand down.

Once the stand down is completed, players must partake in an Olympic event (which includes qualifying tournaments and the 2018/19 World Sevens Series) to make themselves eligible for their new nation at all levels.

Yep. The horrible thing is though, he will just walk into the NRL or AFL now.
I would expect france or japan.

NRL wont touch him and he is literally one of the worst AFL players i have ever seen and he cannot kick anywhere near the levels required for AFL.

The chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, Peter Beattie, has made it clear he won't be welcomed back into the NRL. English Super League is off the table, Northern Hemisphere rugby might be off the table too.

I wonder how deep do his beliefs go. Is he likely to let his career be completely over or will there be a climbdown in the future?

Last year he said that rugby would never be more important than his faith. He also said last year that if it became untenable for him to remain in rugby due to his beliefs, he'd walk.

Vunipola :nervous:
https://www.rte.ie/sport/rugby/2019...ipola-supports-folau-over-controversial-post/

Billy Vunipola has refused to unlike an Instagram post published by Israel Folau in which the Australia full-back made homophobic remarks.

Folau said on Wednesday that "hell awaits" homosexuals in comments that have resulted in Rugby Australia stating they intend to terminate his contract, effectively ruling him out of this autumn's Rugby World Cup.

In an apparent show of support to his fellow Christian, Vunipola states that "Man was made for woman to pro create that was the goal no?"

However, England's first choice number eight adds that "I don't HATE anyone".

The Rugby Football Union is seeking talks with Vunipola to discuss his comments.

His post was liked and commented on by Courtney Lawes too. How hard to steer clear of a toxic issue?

Lads, like.

Is it really so hard to just not stick your nose into some eejit telling marginalised people they're all going to hell?

By the way, it should probably come as no surprise that this is bringing loads of "it's the death of free speech" people out of the woodwork. They have a really hard time understanding that his free speech has not been impinged at all - he's still completely free to say whatever he wants.

It's just that his employers have decided that his hatespeech is not a good fit for them and that freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences when you spout hate, who'd have guessed like.

Damian McKenzie has been ruled out of the World Cup after rupturing his ACL during the Chiefs win over the Blues on Saturday.

Great warrior, player and captain but i bet Irish fans won't like any reference to Dublin 2013.

I'm sorry that I don't remember what this reference means :D You mean the last minute AB loss?

I have mixed feelings about Rory Best, possibly not justified, but there you go. There's been times when he's come through massively for Ireland and there's times when he hasn't. He often looks overwhelmed during the anthems and sometimes during the games too. He'll definitely be more remembered for the very, very good days he's been an integral part of and his legacy will only grow in stature after his retirement.

This game should have been played here in cork or Dublin, no one wants to see a half empty stadium for a semi final

The Spivs have achieved what they've always wanted in sucking the soul out of this tournament. They knew the premiership was never going to compete with the intrigue and romance of the original Heineken Cup, so they threw their toys about and made enough changes to drag European competition down to their level.

Our defence has been excellent so far. It's been the winner of several games for us this season but I'm not sure it will be enough today against this Sarries side.

Leinster have looked very, very good so far.

Conan, Luke McGrath and Henshaw deserve to be first choice for Ireland on this form.

Really wish this wasn't on BT today, yesterday's Vunipola love-in has left a bad taste
It's on all of the channels that show the rugby, Virgin in Ireland and Channel 4 as well as BT (you're right that they were embarrassing yesterday). I was a bit concerned about Leinster, a lot of these players haven't played well for a while and there seemed to be this expectation that it would just be alright on the day but so far they've been superb.

Very tough one to call, isn't it? What injuries/recoveries take place in the run-up to it will be important too.

Also, James Lowe in an Ireland jersey in 2020?

I'd lean towards Sarries at the moment as our form is so up and down. Not much between both sides at their respective best.

Lowe is an animal, hope to God that he can be brought into the Irish side. One of the best finishers I've ever seen.

Just hoping for a better final than last year :D It was a bit of a let down.

I think I struggle to feel the emotion behind the statements as I don't believe hell exists. Interesting to see that, does seem to have affected him.

I've seen this said a lot but it just seems a bit lazy and obtuse to be honest.

I dont believe in hell either but for those who do, it is synonymous with burning, suffering and being punished for eternity. If he said all gay people should be burned, tortured and punished for eternity would that be ok?

If that was Billy's judgement, or what he said, of course that would not be acceptable.

What Christians try to say, and the Pope actually clarified this quite well in the past couple of years, is that it is not us as an individual who is making this judgement but God. The Pope said the feeling is 'who am I to judge', but if one as a Christian genuinely believes this is the fate that awaits gay people they would think they are being unkind in not letting them know and giving them the knowledge and opportunity to change their ways.

I think it's a perverse logic, but that is the logical path taken by most Christians, and I imagine Billy and Israel. It is quite different from saying I the I individual think Gay people should burn for eternity, and I think it is unfair to say they've said that when neither of them has.
