Rugby 2017 Discussion

Retallick is a lucky boy. Appeared lift Hanigan with Hanigan appearing to land close to his head

Can't get comfortable watching this. Need to score again before half time, can't let them back.

Australia had to eventually concede a penalty at scrum time. It's been an issue all game.

That try by Aaron Smith is a massive turning point. Wallabies can't be dispirited. All Blacks will surely be better 2nd half. 17-14 half time.

Foley's inaccuracy might cost Australia. He's hit the posts three times now. Hodge needs to take the next kick at goal Australia 22-21, bit over ten to play.

Gut wrenching. Still think Retallick was lucky in the first half not to be carded and can thank his lucky stars he wasn't carded after Genia's try for tackling a support runner off the ball. That said, the Wallabies lost due to things within their control that can't be blamed on the ref. Australia's scrum wasn't up to scratch, kick off receives weren't up to scratch and Foley's goal kicking wasn't good enough. Both sides scored five tries, better goal kicking won out . Gut wrenching but this can't be a false dawn. Well done to the All Blacks to come from 17-0 down to win.

Hougaard is in for Cronje who is injured and Paige is on the bench, otherwise it's as you were for the Boks. Tough game going to Salta at altitude.

I hope it isn't a false dawn, a competitive Australia is far more entertaining to the neutral. It was probably the first time in recent memory that Australia hasn't repeatedly shot themselves in the foot with overcomplicated attacks that they lacked the skill and technique to pull off. Around half time my immediate thought was that they forgot they were Australia due to their newfound commitment to defence and lack of overembellishment in attack.

The camera showing Cheika's facial expressions was almost as funny as that seagull.

Not too sure about the new scrum laws.

As long scrums remain contested that's all i ask. I don't like the change that came off the back of the England vs Italy Six Nations match. There was nothing wrong with Italy's tackle only, no ruck tactics but because England took so long to find a solution, they kicked up enough of a fuss to force a change.

18 year old making his debut for Grenoble this weekend:

That step and burst of acceleration!

I haven't felt the hairs on the back of my neck rise up like that since O'Driscoll broke the Aussie line for the Lions in 2001!

Some good high scoring games in the Premiership this weekend. Hopefully Leicester vs Bath follows suit.

Hopeful the Wallabies can win this but it'll be close if they do come out on top. Four of the last 5 AUS vs RSA games in Australia have seen the losing side get a losing bonus point with the outlier being South Africa's 38-12 win in Brisbane in 2013. I hope there's no repeat of that on Saturday. You might see a lot of blue in the crowd along with some uncomplimentary messages aimed at the ARU.

Southern Kings are coming here on Saturday too, or rather, they're already here and enjoying my hometown

I've got a bad feeling Argentina is in for almighty hiding against New Zealand in New Plymouth. All Blacks by 20+ wouldn't be surprising.

All Blacks have survived a mini scare to beat Argentina 39-22. Argies led 16-15 at half time before being outscored 24-6 in the 2nd half. Beuden Barrett spent 10 in the bin, Argentina couldn't take advantage on the scoreboard. Australia vs South Africa in Perth coming up, C'mon Wallabies!

SA 3 AUS 0 4th minute, AUS penalised for playing lineout jumper in the air.

Was a good game up until the hour mark or so. When Barrett went into the bin the ABs simply stepped up to a gear the Pumas couldn't live with.

That new lad at 6 NZ have found looks like the real deal! Thought Creevy and the 9 were superb for Argentina but in the end they just ran out of steam and the ABs fitness and intensity late on blew them away.
