Royston Drenthe

The few times I saw Drenth before he signed for madrid he looked quite decent, he's clearly found it difficult to settle there, if this is true this could turn out to be a good bit of business for them

I reckon Drenthe would be a decent signing.. not as an out and out left back though, as a versatile man filling in at LW or full back.

Just in case people missed it, both Liverpool and Drenthe have rubbished the story, which comes from an unofficial facebook page, via Tribal Football

I'm glad that this is a load of rubbish.

I don't like it when the scousers sign anyone really. Prefer them to stay at this current level of shit-ness.

Was excellent tonight for Hercules against Villareal i thought. Great engine on him.

Shame he lacks a brain. From what I've seen of him for Madrid, he's a brute with a bit of skill, you need much more than that to succeed for a top level club

No you don't. He's got speed, good technique and dribbling skills. A mean shot as well. Look at the difference between Marcelo now and two years ago. It was either him or Drenthe in that position. He could be just as good.

Apparently available on a free and we need a player who can slot in at leftback as well. Worth a punt? Thought he did pretty well with Everton last season

He's not exactly the type of player Fergie would want in the dressing room.

From the guardian:

"Royston Drenthe has ruined his prospects of securing a permanent move to Everton after being omitted from the club's FA Cup semi-final squad by David Moyes for another breach of discipline."

Good player, but not special enough for us to take him on, considering how he misses training and has a chronic lack of confidence (Which resulted in him showing up a week late for preseason). We don't want him to spread his idiocy to other players, especially the younger ones.
Seeing as Morrison was kicked out despite the fact he was young (so misbehaviour is more excusable) and of course, still learning, I doubt we'll take on a player in his mid 20's who still hasn't learned to behave!

Everton's fans perspective:

He still hasn't found a team. 25 years old, and a decent player. Besiktas and PAOK the closest he got to a negotiation apparently. Sounds like his reputation has closed a few doors.

Someone will eventually be desperate enough to take a chance despite the fact he behaves like a bellend everywhere he goes.

I think he is stupid enough to believe other teams should pay him the same wages he had at Real hence him being without a team still.

He has signed for Reading. He could be a good PL player but his attitude is rank, maybe Adkins can change that but i doubt it.

Forgot they were in the Championship, what a fall from grace for Drenthe.

Yeah he signed the other day. I never understood why Madrid signed him, he was never anywhere near capable of playing at that level.

He looked very promising in an under 21 tourny a few years back, but so did Babel.

I've never seen him play but that is a name destined for stardom, Royston Drenthe, I say sign him, quickly

Yeah, Maceo Rigters got top scorer and he ended up at Wigan or Blackburn (can't remember which) and has had a nothing career. I think Leroy Lita also impressed at that tournament. Drenthe never looked like he had the quality to play at a level anywhere near Madrids standard. He probably should have stayed in Holland for a few more years.

From what I saw of him, his best performances in Spain were for Hercules. He turned himself into a real fan favourite as well. But in the end his attitude and lack of discipline let him down.

Who knows, maybe he's grown up.
