I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
I thought I might as well start a thread on this guy.
He seems like hot property after last night's game.

"The most scintillating left-sided force here last night was Feyenoord's terrific Royston Drenthe, a livewire who had the hordes of scouts scribbling furiously in their notebooks."

Royston Drenthe (born April 08, 1987) is a Dutch footballer who currently plays for Feyenoord Rotterdam. Drenthe mainly plays as a left back, but he is also suitable for the left winger or left forward positions.

Feyenoord youth career

At Feyenoord he came into the D2 team, where also Tim Vincken and Gianni Zuiverloon were part of. Drenthe played mainly as a left winger during his junior years. As a C player he was invited to join the B squad on a trip to Switzerland. Drenthe misbehaved and the trainer, Marcel Bout, wanted him to leave the club as a result. Thanks to technical director Rob Baan Drenthe was able to stay and was only temporarily suspended by the club. After his suspension he continued to play in the C-team before moving to the B-team, where he again faced Marcel Bout as his coach.

Bout hardly used Drenthe in his line-up. Later, at the end of the season he was named as one of eleven players whose future at the club were questionable. Drenthe then decided to switch teams and moved to Feyenoord's feeder club Excelsior Rotterdam.

The two years he played at Excelsior he improved. Coach Marco van Lochem wanted to try him as a left back, which turned out to be a success. Drenthe seemed to be a talent at this position and became a team regular. He impressed the Feyenoord coaches and was asked to join them again.

Feyenoord first team

In the 2005/06 season he reached the A1 team of Feyenoord, managed by his former coach Henk Fräser. Fräser told him he had to fight for his position with his team mate Mohammed Hammouti. Since the Otten Cup, a youth tournament at PSV Eindhoven he scored three goals against Ajax Amsterdam as a left winger. Since that match he became a first-team player and even became captain of the team. In the meantime he also became a team regular in Feyenoord's second team.

Drenthe was offered a professional contract soon after. That same week he won an away match versus Ajax' second team 1-5 and was asked to train with Feyenoord's first team for the first time in his life. He played continued to play for Feyenoord's youth and second team before manager Erwin Koeman eventually brought him in his regular squad. He made his debut in the match against Vitesse in the Gelredome and finished the season with a total of three professional matched played.

In the 2006-07 season Feyenoord signed Belgian international player Philippe Léonard at Drenthe's position, while Pascal Bosschaart was also still part of the squad. Due to the injury of Léonard and the switch of Bosschaart to play for ADO Den Haag Drenthe was awarded a chance, which he grabbed immediately. In a short time Drenthe became a fans' favourite player, being one of the few positive highlights in a disappointing season for the club.

This should be in the football forum. He looks like a good player, quick, good with both feet and can dribble as well as get quality crosses in. One for the future.

He was awesome last night, wouldn't like to judge him on one game though. There was an article last week reporting that Abramovic had told his head scout to buy him the three best players in the tournament, Drenthe to Chelsea?

He was class in last nights game, great crossing and pace

Didn't his head scout tell him that Nani has already signed for us?

Yes, and then Roman quipped, 'Nani smells like a fanny and looks like a ****** and plays like your granny!', shortly after he was reported to have been seen quietly weeping at his desk whilst clutching a battered old doll with a passing resemblance to sir Alex Ferguson and four six inch pins sticking out of it's chest.

:lol::lol:
Well in that case we should sign Royston too!
I wouldn't like to think what the Russians might do to his head scout though..

Think he's a great player, was going to start a thread myself but people were posting about hi in the U21 threads... so I didn't bother, anyway. I think he's a great player, I've watched him in a few games recently he's pretty consistent with his abilities, skills and strengths, plus can play in a few positions... started the game as a LB and ended up more of an AM...!! Think we're covered for the future in that area now though... Nani.. Andersson... (not yet finished articles, long way to go.. but they're coming to us where SAF is the master of development!!)

If the tabloids are to be believed then Gabby is off, so maybe an understudy to Evra wouldn't be a bad idea and we can sell Silvestre to the barcode the fund it

quite small but built. Looked like davids and played like him. Would be a very good buy for someone. He's only 20 but physically he's there already. Of course with kids you just never know but one to keep an eye on this season anyway. I don't think he will be too far away from senior caps with performances like that.

The boy looks twice the player Nani is.

Nani has shown his quality over a whole season and already has several caps for the Full national team. This is not the first time ive seen you slag Nani off, why the hell are you making your judgement on this half arsed youth tournament.

The kid really doesnt wanna be there but deep inside him he feels obligated to represent his country and he should be commended for that. He could easily have pulled out like David Bentley did.

He's right! I've watched each of them play in one game and one game only, and in that game Drenthe was the better player. My small brain capacity then leads me to believe that if i had watched them both in 100 games then Drenthe would clearly be twice the player. I've even done the maths to work it out (not that I'm any good at maths due to my small brain capacity), if in the game i watched Drenthe got an 8/10 and Nani got a 6/10 then surely over 100 games Drenthe would have 800/1000 and Nani a mere 600/1000. As you can clearly see; Drenthe is 200 better than Nani, now, let's say that as a percentage, 200%, 'but wait!' my tiny brain cries, 'you can't have over 100%!', so let's just call it 100% shall we. So there you have it, my ill conceived formula proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Drenthe is 100% better than Nani, and therefore; twice the player!

Turns out Drenthe is a United fan. Man it'll be a shame if he ends up at Chelsea.
Somewhat closer to home, Drenthe revealed he is content to carry on at Feyenoord, where he has a contract until 2011, though he told uefa.com he dreams of one day playing in England's Premier League, with the club he supported as a boy, Manchester United FC, being his preferred destination.

Just get the first refusal on him and then monitor his progress for next two seasons. He can be transformed into a box to box all action centro campista that we are all craving for.

I've never seen him play but that is a name destined for stardom, Royston Drenthe, I say sign him, quickly
