Roy Keane

There was no celebrating in the stands. Fans were simply applauding the players efforts at full time. I don't understand why that's worth commenting on.
Because he cares, how many of us have seen something that we have played a hand in building up to its peak get torn down and have to watch? The issue is that we (as fans) have allowed the standards to consistently slide and expectations to slide and now look at us. We are 14th place with more losses than wins on the season.. and we want to make excuses like its acceptable.

We get it Roy! the current United side isn’t that good.

Lucky for you, you get paid handsomely to rant about it on Sky Sports.

Sadly no he does not care if the team wins or loses. He said it clearly when asked in a recent interview by Neville. He said that it will not ruin his weekend if united win or loose. Hence he only keeps going on about United as it is the only way he can stay relevant as a pundit.

He loves the club but the man was a winner through and through with an unbelievable inner drive.
He's got no time for losers and the current squad is full of them. The owners are serial losers in a sporting sense also.

Prime Keane couldn't even play for us now as the rest of the dressing room would drive him nuts with their unbelievably low standards and laid back nature.

Zirkzee got booed once and dozens of people on the caf lost their shit over it. Cue the thread named 'we have the worst fanbase in the world' getting pages and pages of comments in the aftermath, where our fanbase was collectively labelled as toxic due to a few seconds of booing.

Yet when we applaud the players for earning a 1-1 draw vs the 2nd best team in the country, now we're part of the problem for allowing standards to slip? Unless you think we should be booing every single performance until the club is back to fighting for major honours, then the alternative is that there will be some warm applause from the fans on a matchday. That doesn't mean that we think our current league position is acceptable.

Matchgoing fans have very little influence over the long-term direction of the club, so we'd generally prefer to support our players under most circumstances. Sure, we're dissatisfied with being 14th, however if we were to regularly boo the players off the pitch in an attempt to 'raise standards', then it would achieve very little other than making the weekly trips to Old Trafford an even more depressing experience for everyone involved.

I can't recall our fans ever booing off the players under Fergie, even after losing to teams we should have been good enough to beat.

A bit of a shame that Keane is so often the go-to pundit from a United perspective when he seems to have very little love for the club.

I can but it was in the days before we were any good

He's quite terrible isn't he.

This started long before this season. I'm old enough to remember when David Moyes came in and took the team that lifted the title the previous season, and immediately came in and said it was a good season to finish top 4. There was no outcry then and the standards have slipped for the last 10 years.

Matchgoing fans are the best in the league by far, and if people want to cheer or boo its their perogative to do so as they see fit.

You're quite the veteran then!

Yeah, I actually think Keane played better in the Holland and Portugal home games than that Juventus one. He was unbelievable.
Agree completely, he was sensational in that qualifying campaign. Absolutely sensational. Peak Roy Keane. Would have Keane in the 6 position if u were picking a greatest ever premship 11. He was world class.

I don't remember Fergie's United ever getting booed off after a draw especially against a side like Arsenal. He's talking shite as usual.
Yeah never happened. He's really just a rent a quote now.

He’s only saying what most of us think; celebrating a draw at home shows how far we’ve fallen. No drama to see here
Who celebrated?

I think you all are being a bit too literal.

He's basically saying we'd always be disappointed with a draw at home - no matter who we played against - back in the "good old days". Whether or not you think it's a helpful comment at this moment in time, he's absolutely not wrong.

Keano... what did fergie say, " he can start a fight in an empty house".

What the hell does it matter what any of these pundits say, whether they love United, or are ABU's, its just talk, it fills the gaps between match action and adverts and acts as 'click-bait'.

Good money for them too I suspect!!

Honestly, you have to realize a lot of what keane says is tongue in cheek, he just thinks he's being sharp and i doubt he believes half the stuff he says. When you watch him with wrighty etc no matter how he feels he was treated and how much he protests it, he deep down absolutely loves the club. He can make all the grumbly noise he likes - it's clear as day.

He knows they were never boo'd off at arsenal, he's just saying it as a witty quip to illustrate that he thinks standards have fallen overall.

I wouldn't get too bent up over it - He's basically playing a character at this point. Part of him clearly enjoys playing up to it and the over the top comments.

Nothing wrong with applauding players who nearly beat the second best team in the PL.

It was more of an applaud for their efforts, the players looked like they wanted it more than Arsenal.

Hopefully this carries on to Thursday.

In the podcast when the topic of Utd. comes up Roy will use the term “we” when speaking about Utd. This is when he’s getting animated. Not just general conversation. I think he cares deep down as evidenced by the little hints he gives when he’s really fired up.
