Round of 16 | Switzerland vs Italy | Germany vs Denmark

I still can’t get my head around the fact that Eriksen died at the previous Euros, proceeded to look like he’s well past it and his engine is gone at United, and during this tournament he’s marvelous, active, runs the game.

Hojlund getting stick for not scoring from a tight angle from a chance he made for himself, and for not beating Manuel fecking Neuer from a pass that sent him wide and had to stretch to get anything on, and a player with anything less than roadrunner pace wouldn't have reached at all.

People on here gleefully hoping a young United player has a bad game so they can parade around as if they've achieved something by slagging him off make me sick.

Sorry guys you are not allowed to criticise Højlund, because if you do, it means you have an agenda against him.

Maybe it helps he is playing further up the pitch. At Utd we have Bruno

Every player I’m impressed with I look up and they all play for Bologna

We of course want to sign their one player who hasn’t played a second

Everyone looks gased in EtH crazy formation.

Musiala and Havertz far too quiet. I do not rate this German attack.

Not sure you could have settled the game in this half only. Denmark are a handful

Musiala is excellent. He did have a poor game so far, though.

Making the chance for himself doesn't absolve him from not hitting the target. That miss was shocking

No chance he can do anything else than try to dink it first time. Great save by Neuer.

He should have seen there was no chance to score with a shot from there. He had every chance to take a touch past the keeper and slot it in.

Germany need to get Fulkrug on. Let’s all stop the collective pretence that Kai Havertz is a functioning footballer

Easy to look poor in midfield under ETH given how much running he requires of his midfielders.

This is where he was playing. Sorry but this is not a 80m high metallic superstructure.
He got hit by the lightning in the ground traveling to his leg.

You aren't safe anywhere outside when lightning strikes. The strike might not hit you directly but you can be hit by the traveling electricity.

High structures and conductive poles reduce the risk of lightning striking something further down the ground but it doesn't eliminate the chance. People have gotten hit by lightning in New York City.

Even if he could do that, he doesn't have the composure required for that. Neuer was fantastic. However the previous chance was terrible

Plays 10 for Denmark doesn’t he?

Feed em to the pigs Errol.

The slower pace of international football, and playing further forward will do that. He's still plenty capable of that, but Bruno is never injured, and he's not cut out for the amount of ground you have to cover as an 8 in our crazy midfield setup.

Really? Talk about hyperbole.

Some people just think he is crap, others don’t and are prepared to defend him. It’s a football forum and par for the course. Get over it.

I think it was an option, he’s running diagonal by that point, which helps a ton.

IMO, he made a poor initial run. For whatever reason he’s intent on getting across the face of the defender rather than just racing into the box. This brings him closer to the passer and means he can’t actually get to the pass in stride and has to readjust to chase it diagonally. If he runs straight he meets the ball in stride at the penalty spot with a lot more room between him and Neuer.

I thought the criticism of him for the chance Neuer saved was ridiculous

"He takes a little step here"

The guy has been sprinting for the last 20m to get there and the pass was slightly too far ahead of him.

Hojlund getting a lot more shit than he deserves. Having a good game with some poor decision making letting him down, that can be improved with experience.

This game has showcased Hojlund in a nutshell IMHO. If you are only looking for the good things then there is enough in there to be optimistic. If you are only looking for bad things then there’s been enough of them too.

He did not, watch it again. There was zero chance of that, he had to take a couple of huge strides to even get there.

About right for a 21 year old really.

Which people seem to forget.

He has underperformed for Denmark and had a bang average season for United. He is playing like a League One striker; he lacks composure, decision making and technical ability.

Doubling down on the embarrassing comments then?

You've obviously never watched League One.

Got to say as well that Rudiger is a tough match up for literally any striker in the world at the moment

Just seen the replay again, it was a pretty good attempt with the dink considering how he barely reached the ball in the first place

I disagree, a striker with composure takes that past the goalie and it's an open goal.
