Ronaldo

NO way.. that free kick made him.

Well, Ronaldo sat warming the bench for the whole of USA 94, but I get your point. ;)

Bollox. If his name was made and cemented by one free kick why would he have been playing for arguably the best club in Europe for the past 5 years?

<strong>take it that you rate Bobby?</strong><hr></blockquote>Actually, I do. You can't hide when playing for Real or Brazil as they both expect to be the best.

I think his defensive duties should take more precedence but in general, yep, I think he's one of the top 3 LB's in the world.

I've probably slated him in the past but that's coz I don't like his percieved image too much.

Absolutely. He's been consistently good over that span now. I love to hate Bobby Carlos, but you can't argue with his play. He may not be the classic euro style LB, but his play over the last 5 years can't be overlooked.

re the carlos free kick thing.

Personally i dont rate him as a free kick taker, if he were to come to us id still prefer to see Beckham or Veron taking them. Bob's freekicks are just driven straight and a well errected wall will stop most of em.
As a defender ive never seen him loose an individual battle.

I would not even give it a second thought, Ronaldo to MU asap!!! The guy is unbelievable, just look at his scoring record since he has come back:

12 goals in 10 games for Inter ' the end of last season.

8 goals in 7 games for Brazil in the WC.

And according to most, he is not even 100% yet, i'm telling you this guy is worth every penny, we would have to pay for him and as Ian Wright said, a 75% Ronaldo is better than most strikers in the world.

I'dhave to agree. He may not be a conventional LB but I cant remeber ever seeing a game where he has been "skinned" consistently.

I'm posting in all the wrong places! You should see me free kicks ;) I'd luv to see ronaldo and RVN up front, with Bex and Giggs supplying the crosses (well, Bex anyway). A decent CB or 2 and what a season ahead. Cant wait :D

Although Frings and Schneider double-teamed him quite a few times on Sunday. It's a mute point, anyway, as he's not coming here.
We'll be lucky if we get even Gary Breen at the rate all our targets our drying up!

Forget Ronaldo, Real have got themselves yet another World Player of the Year!!!!
I'm not even going to use the  graemlin for Real signings anymore.

Ronaldo tempted by Real deal

Tuesday 2nd July 2002

Ronaldo has declared that he is prepared to listen to offers if Internazionale do not increase his salary to match the success he achieved at the World Cup.

"I owe a lot to Inter, but we will have to talk three ways if Real Madrid decide to make an offer for me," he said.

"If Real Madrid want me they have to call me," Ronaldo told AS. "Roberto Carlos always talks to me about Real."

Ronaldo returned to the World Cup stage in emphatic fashion, scoring both Brazil's goals in the 2-0 final win over Germany and winning the Golden Boot with eight strikes in seven matches during the tournament.

Prior to the World Cup, Ronaldo's agent Alezandre Martins had begun calling for the striker's salary to be increased to bring it into line with that of Christian Vieri, the top earner at the club, and Ronaldo is now hoping that the lure of Madrid may prompt Inter to take action.

Meanwhile, Brazil colleague Roberto Carlos is desperate to get Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

"I will meet [club] president Florentino Perez and I will try to convince him that Real Madrid have to buy Ronaldo," the defender said.

And Ronaldo's Brazil strike partner Rivaldo is already drooling at the prospect. "A team with him Zidane, Raul, Roberto Carlos and Figo would be something else," said the Barcelona star.

After over two-and-a-half years out with a knee injury that threatened to end his career, Ronaldo returned to the Inter side last season, scoring seven goals in ten Serie A games as the Nerazzurri narrowly missed out on the Scudetto.

Inter president Massimo Moratti hinted before the World Cup that he might be prepared to sell the striker, but he is now keen for the Ronaldo to repay the faith and patience shown towards him during his recovery.

Ronaldo's priorities, however, seem to lie elsewhere. "My future is a victory in the 2004 Olympic Games," he said when asked what he is now aiming for after winning the World Cup.

Moratti was hoping Ronaldo's quest for glory might have been more focused on his club. "Like all Inter fans, I was greatly moved by his success, but now he has a duty to win us the Scudetto," Moratti said on Monday.

Ronaldo is under contract at Inter until 2004 and is on a salary of £3 million a season, but his advisor Martins remains optimistic that Inter will be willing to renegotiate. "It would be a wonderful signal if Inter decided to increase Ronaldo's salary," he said.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, meanhwhile, revealed last week that he will not be tempted into a move for Ronaldo because he is still not convinced the Brazilian has fully recovered from his knee injury.

"He is a good player but he has been troubled for four years with injury, and I have doubts about how he will perform in the future," he said. "We haven't talked with him or about him," Perez added.

Many at Inter still blame Brazil for fielding Ronaldo in the World Cup final four years ago, just hours after he had suffered a fit. His career since has been plagued by knee injuries, and the Inter medical staff viewed his success at the World Cup as a personal and professional triumph.

"I'm happy and I feel grateful to all those people who trusted him and worked for him during many difficult months," Internazionale chief medical officer Franco Combi said. "Really I feel as proud as if I was his father.

"Ronnie is a champion and his success in the most important competition worldwide is the result of many months of effort and passion.

"So I say thanks to Ronaldo himself and to the whole of the staff that have worked with him over the last few years."

Unless of course onefootball.com cut and pasted some OLD Ronaldo comments together just to spice it up.

Images of poorly spliced together taped recordings of forced confessions come to mind.
;)

If Ronaldo really is after more money after the amount of games he's played for Inter, goodish world cup or not, then I don't want him at OT. Another money grabbing cnut if this story is to be believed.

Btw a bit off topic, but in a dutch interview a while ago, PSV legend Luc Nilis (a great footballer... he played for villa until that incident) was asked to name the best and most talented player he's ever played with in his career: he said he could not name 1 and has to name 2: RvN and Ronaldo :D

When did Nilis play with Ronaldo? I thought he joined PSV late in his career?

I'll make it easy for you... typed in search engine: Luc Nilis
Random click of URL:

<a href="http://www.thevillan.co.uk/Players/Nilis.html" target="_blank">http://www.thevillan.co.uk/Players/Nilis.html</a>

"He left Anderlecht in summer 1994 to join Dutch giant PSV Eindhoven. During his six seasons at PSV Eindhoven, Luc Nilis had made himself a legend by scoring 111 goals in 164 league games. Luc Nilis had played with several World Class players such as Ronaldo, and Ruud Van Nistelrooy."

Thanks for the handy tip. My question still stands. I thought you knew your stuff that's all.

In fact, Ronaldo and Nilis get along very well... had to laugh when during the WC a Belgian reporter was trying to ask a semi-running Ronaldo a few questions and said: "do it for Luc!" ;)

What's with that attitude? All I'm saying is that I saw a dutch interview with Nilis on Studio Sport and told you what he said. "I thought you know your stuff that's all"... nice guy you are. Do you have something up your ass whenever you're on this board?

"Do what for Luke? "

You need everything spelt out for you...
He was trying to get an interview with Ronaldo, Ronaldo was going past him without giving him a look. The belgian journalist knows he's got a good relationship with Luc and tries to use this (semi-jokingly) to get Ronaldo to speak to him.

Was it a Star Wars reference? Ronaldo does look a bit like a Tusken Raider.

"Thanks for the handy tip. My question still stands. I thought you knew your stuff that's all. "

Which one of these questions is that btw?
"When did Nilis play with Ronaldo?"
"I thought he joined PSV late in his career?"
"And when did Ronaldo leave? "

I believe all these 3 questions were asked because you were obviously unsure of the fact that Nilis has ever played with Ronaldo. I provided you a link (could have given you a dutch link with more info but that wouldn't be helpful would it?) in which it confirms that. So what question "still stands"?

Mate no need to be so arsey. All I was asking were a few questions, you seemed to know what you were on about - you seem to be dutch. So I guess you know about PSV and perhaps even support them. You answered the second question, the first and the third were both hoping to find out when Ronaldo and Nilis played together at PSV. But hey don't bother though mate - I was just chatting football that's all I won't bother asking you any more. A dutch link would have been fine but I still wouldn't have bothered as I thought perhaps you might be up for some footy chat. I can't really be fecked now.

K, I took your post in the wrong way. You sounded patronizing, and I was negatively surprised in the way you were like "quiz time!" because you don't believe me or whatever.
No I don't support PSV, yes I live in Holland, no I don't know details and straight facts about Luc Nilis (although I liked watching him play). I am just a passerby talking about the interview and writing down what he said, no more.
No hard feelings.
