Ronaldinho

What a player he was.

Most talented player ever (Debatable-baring one or two others).

It's a shame how his career has gone downhill. Noone today is nearly as entertaining as he was. Look at those passes. To pass like that and yet be so devastating with the ball at feet is very very rare.

Ronaldino would never take to the hustle & bustle of the Premiership.

No thanks.

People underestimated Ronaldinho's strength quite abit. You only have to take a look Barca's match against Chelsea in the CL when he held off Terry to score the winning goal, to know how strong he is. I think he would be able to cut it in the Premiership.

One of his greatest strenghts was holding off challenges, even when he was all slim, he was fecking brilliant at it, keeping the ball away from the defender and moving forward into space at the same time.

The pace of the prem might thow him off though just like it did Deco

I agree that Ronaldinho is strong as an ox for an attacking midfielder. However, I think the point is, unless you're a lone striker, you can't just walk about and wait for the ball to come to you in the English or in any other top European league. The United - Milan match exposed Ronaldinho's lack of work rate - did Neville not get an assist or two after Ronaldinho couldn't be arsed running back from his inside-left position?

That is true, but with that talent, he was never asked to come back and defend, for Barca or Brazil! I for one, would rather he used his talent in the opponents half - I mean we hardly expected Ronaldo to defend when he was with us - he did on some occassions, but the midfield had to cover for him often.

The "pace and strength" of the EPL is often exaggerated - hence the "he is too small" for the EPL mind set (and I am not having a dig at you fwiw). A similar argument is made for ALL players coming from La Liga or Serie A - they are too small, or too weak.

If you are that brilliant - as Ronaldinho was, he would torn the EPL a new one! Just a pity that he lost his discipline...amongst other things!

Yes, in his pomp he would have been the best player in the world irrespective of where he played. And it's true that the physical side of the Premiership is over-played - there are numerous skinny midgets forging respectable careers in this league. Today Ronaldinho would still be a standout in this league for most teams, but when you weigh up what he now offers going forward against the little he offers defensively, as well as the off-the-field baggage, you can see why Barcelona ditched him and why Manchester United might be better suited giving him a wide berth.

Ronaldinho was probably the most technically gifted footballer of all time, certainly his generation anyway.

Yep, it is a real shame how he has lost interest and desire (in football and not food/ladies ;) ) because the footballing world is worse off without his talents lighting up the fields.

It's harsh to accuse him of lack of workrate. When a player is that good offensively, more often than not he's asked to leave the defensive duties to others.

Bagged 15 goals for Milan last season. Maybe with a fresh new start and the influence of SAF he could bring that up to 25.

I'd love to see him play for United

An attack of Nani---Ronaldinho---Valencia, playing behind Rooney, with Scholes and Fletch controlling the midfield, would be extremely difficult to defend against IMO.

I would have loved to see him at United in his prime. I'm not sure I would now though taking into account his mentality and not his ability.

I'd still love to see him at United, but we should all never forget Peter Kenyon fecked this up for us...luckily SAF had the foresight to sign the unknown Ronaldo.

It'd be very sexy to watch, plus it'd give me a reason to get Ronaldinho on one of my shirts :D

Agreed.

Absolute mastery of the ball. Incredible.

Yup, he was doing things with the balls I doubt others had dreams of.

good how? what did he do?

split the defence for Seedorf to blast it over being 1 on 1 with Cassilas. There was another very good pass to Ibra, who couldn't find the best option, distributed well.

Name me a better player in for Milan in the 1st half?

How is it sad? the guys lived the dream. He had an abject game against Madrid in the bernabau. Big deal, he actually played very well there just last season where Milan won 3-2 if memory serves me...

He isnt the player he once was but he can still turn it on and there is nothing sad about it.

Ronaldinho is probably the closest to perfection. I swear he can do anything with the ball.

Would have loved to seen him at United, so long as United wouldve still bought Ronaldo

Some players just have the perfect combination of skills and intelligence to allow them to do exactly what they want on the pitch. He tried ridiculous things only because he was capable of them. It seems as if nothing was beyond him. Even Ronaldo and Messi can be dealt with effectively with a sound gameplan and solid defence. But I don't think it was possible to do that to Ronaldinho on top form. He seemed to work better with a crowd of defenders around him. Never sprinting away hurriedly, instead merely fooling them to allow space to basically jog into. Such a complete player, and not just a jack of all trades, but a master of each one. Pity that he was only the catalyst towards building on Barca's success, as it would have been good to watch him reap the rewards playing with the present day Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. Add to that Villa and thats a scary combination attacking the final third.

There is only 1 thing Ronaldo/Messi has that I wish Ronaldinho did & that is...dedication.

It is sad to think that he was probably the most outrageously talented footballer of his generation, but was only able to maintain those levels for 2-3years, if even that long. :(

He would have lasted considerably longer had he joined us in 03.

Nah. Messi's technique is better, so was Maradona's.

He combined it with a creativity and boldness like nothing seen before though.

I know he was WPOTY twice, and really should have been 3 times, but he had the potential to be much, much better than he really was. I guess longevity is never really possible with many of these Brazilian talents. They tend to go from rags to riches and let it go to their head, which is a real, real shame.
