My worst fear finally has been confirmed. I suspected Jose would go for him right around mid season last season. I was relieved when rumors emerged that he'd agreed to go to Chelsea. Can't believe we're going to get stuck with this guy for a decade.

Anyway, could some one confirm the fee? We haven't actually paid 90m GPB for this guy, have we?

Worst fear? Jesus Christ :wenger: You do realise he has scored 85 PL goals in the last 5 seasons, only Aguero has more.

The fee is £75m. Even our own fans like to inflate fees to suit their agenda it seems.

poor Perisic. this pic comes in to mind at the moment

That part is far from guaranteed, last season Lukaku scored in 17 games, if he does the same this season we could end up in the exact same situation. Lukaku will have to improve in order to reach our requirements.
Though I agree Lukaku will need to improve, scoring in every other league game is quite good tbf. I believe put problems last season were about the shocking return from the other attackers. They need to step up regardless of how much better Lukaku does.

Thing is that both Morata and Lukaku are terribly overpriced but with Morata we would be buying potential as he's never led the line all by himself in his career, he's been an impact sub predominantly whilst Lukaku although not as technically sound as Morata has been successful in leading the line on his own, plus he's EPL proven.

Your life must be the stuff of royalty if signing Lukaku was your worst fear.

Did lukaku do dirty business to your wife or something? Jebus.

Aren't you a drama queen.

Team chemistry will be better, other players will have more freedom unlike last season when Zlatan's ego was getting in the way with him shouting and complaining everytime he didn't get the ball.

Jesus, imagine being upset about signing one of the best strikers in the league when your issue has been scoring goals.

I hope you survive the day without topping yourself.

Lindelof thread was opened in the United forum when it was still "pending a medical and personal terms".

@Damien how come this one isn't locked and a United forum one opened?
Usually a thread in United forum is opened once deal is fully completed. Someone else made the thread for Lindelof and locked the transfer thread and we ended up waiting ages for deal to be done and by that point the interviews etc were buried in rather than in opening post.

Matter of preference. I don't like threads being made earlier than needed personally. Others are fine with it but the practice had been that only once the player was on the United website holding the United shirt, that a thread would be in United forum.

The thought of you being terrified of us signing Lukaku has left me crying with laughter  you sure it's worse than being in shark infested waters or dying alone?

United must be the only club who confirm deals before medicals and personal terms? Never seen that before other than with Ramsey.

Not that I don't think he will sign... The Pogba social media says it all really.

The blaming of Ibra by some on here is asinine. It was Mkhitaryan not showing up for half the season, Martial having a stinker, Lingard contributing feck all, Rashford not scoring for about 6 months, Mata going missing and being injured, Rooney doing literally noting, Pogba hitting the woodwork 54 times etc. why we struggled with goals and chances last year. Ibra did his part. If Lukaku comes in and the rest of the players have seasons like last year nothing will change.
Hello there Captain Obvious.

Nobody is saying he will singlehandedly pull us through the mess we're in. But he will help with his pace, power and movement which would be better than what Ibra offered for us last season.

Seems we're trying to get another winger in. Mkhi should improve along with Martial(it wasn't that long ago he was the hottest property around). Then there was the Griezmann transfer that didn't happen who is a 2nd striker. So who knows whats in store for us. I'm just happy we get a pacy powerful forward who knows where the goal is.

This.

300k/week x 52 x 2 is close to 30mio
You do forget that Lukaku himself will be on massive wages for sure. I read one report which said he is likely to earn 275k/week. Not sure how credible it is though. But yeah, this move makes massive sense for us. Offloading a player past his prime and buying one who is about to enter his.

this. the likes of martial, micki and pogba need to step up big time if we are going to have a successful league campaign.

back in 2006 we signed only carrick and sold ruud, but ending up having ronaldo and rooney stepping up and everything comes into places.

It's good but not great. The problem to me is more with the over expectation that steams from people only looking at the 25 goals as a whole.

No, I'd rather not help Real buy Mbappe. They really fecked up rejecting our initial bid. Good luck to them getting 90 million for a non-first team player.
What does it matter if we finance that? I don't get why people are saying this. He doesn't want to come to us. What if us buying Lukaku has financed Everton getting him? What does it matter who Real buy as long as it isn't DDG?

Don't agree with that at all. The lack of numbers from the others was about their lack of quality in terms of performance, nothing to do with Ibra's ego. That's just shifting the blame needlessly.

Happy with this deal. We have a new striker who would be staying up top rather than dropping down into spaces which means defence would move back too. Micky is best when having space ahead of him so expecting to see best of him. Martial also gets to take on defence as no defenders would stay higher knowing lukaku is there to run past them biggest drawback we had with zlatan for all his playmaking capabilities

I don't need you to agree at all, you're free to form your opinion.

Yeah, wouldn't call it great but if Lukaku scores in 19 league games next season, he's likely to hit 25+ goals and that'd be a success imo. What would then define our season from an attacking POV is whether the others step up and contribute because Lukaku's goals in themselves won't be enough.

So are you as underwhelmed as me? I am glad he is here, but I am not confident the rest will step up. They didn't last year. In fact we have been awful for years. I just feel we need more goalpower from another striker. I feel we are just going to hope for the best and go back in for Griezmann. If we get Top 4 again then he will come. If it goes wrong then we are stuck. We will have to wait and see if there are other signings coming.
yes he is a very good player, but what I saw of him last season, I am not convinced.
You are right the rest have got to step up more than last season, again I am not sure some of them can.
Martial and Pogba need to improve on last season.

Question is, is there a Mikel clause? ;)

I reckon lot depends on whether we'll get another LW. If we do I seriously think he'll be gone.

Everyone talks about a LW but I think we need a RW just as much if not more to be honest, Douglas Costa or Dembele would be my choices. I'm pretty sure Martial will be staying but he has to step it up this season, he's not been good enough regardless of the harsh treatment he may have received. You need to step up when it gets tough not sulk into your shell, will never be a top player if he doesn't start working.

Personal terms are usually agreed before a bid is accepted.
