People are having a really hard time adjusting to the new market prices it seems. We're getting a very good, proven premier league goalscorer for a lot of money. It remains to be seen how he will fare in Europe, but I'm hopeful that he'll push on to another level next season.

Like someone else said, you want a player who scores amazing goals constantly? We need someone who scores goals to win games that's it.

No, you were the one that kept making it about purely goals, I never said he wouldn't score goals, I said his limitations will prevent us from being any better than we were last season, and that his style of play is ugly and not condusive to building a free flowing attacking unit.

I'll take the donkey that'll almost guaranteed bang in 25 goals next season over the chance of a talented, technically gifted player with potential maybe netting half of those.

Every day of the week!

liverpool quoted 60m for a CB from a mid-table team

Mbappe rumoured to cost 115m+ after one season

Belotti has a 100m clause

Morata was 80-90m

PSG telling Barca they will not sell veratti for any price.

75m+addons+rooney to everton seems about right.

It's a sellers market.

If you hate these types of goals then I don't know what to say.

Great set of goals.

However, the only problem I found in them is he finds so much space in most goals that's strange really, didn't expect English teams to be playing with such open defenses as this, I used to see parked buses against us.

The only concern is if he'll operate well against a very tight defense as this video didn't show it. I hope his physicality helps him. For an advantage he doesn't seem to hold much on ball in front of the goal and with his strong build up he should be cabaple to win deals against most defenders in the league, but he won't find the same spaces I saw in this video except in big games.

He obviously does have some flaws with stuff like hold-up play and his touch but think about how he could improve under Mourinho as well. All areas he can work on.

any indication this will be announced tomorrow? it'd be nice to get it over the line as soon as

Which genius thought up the Smalling one?
Didn't know LVG is a CAF member (playing Smalling up front)?

Rather having a forward who flat track bully to pick up maximum point from average & fodders, challenge for the title than fluid attacking bs which eventually be amounted to nothing. If we're converting chances & beat the shite of some meh teams we dropped points last season, we're better.

Have my worry about Lukaku's big game performance though.

Seems to love hugging that right channel, as Martial loves the left. If they work on their movement a bit there could be a decent partnership there.
That's what I thought too. At least from those highlight videos. Probably will give the team some kind of balance, given that the players were mostly on the left side and just became too congested. Didn't stretch the game enough sometimes. Hence the double decker parked bus at OT.

the YouTube VDO also indicates he'll score many long range screamers like Mark Hughes used to do, or that famous thump from Leeds Tony Yeboah.

If teams can play good football with Inzaghi and Chicharito in the XI, it can be done with Lukaku as well.

Wasn't my first choice for a striker, but now that it seems he's going to become one of us I'm warming up to the idea. Can't wait to see him banging them in for us.

I thought swap deal never happened?

i don't think our club see it as a swap deal. We are dropping the transfer fee for rooney. We consider it a favour to rooney, everton consider it a 10m bonus for luakaku.

Lukaku fee 75m + addons is the transfer fee

Rooney to everton on a free transfer because it's the only club he wants to go back to.

Media reports this as 90-100m deal.

Rooney is basically a gift of good will to help the transfer work out. If we weren't in for lukaku i still think rooney would've gone on a free deal, or maybe only a few million.

The one thing I loved seeing in that goal compilation was the aerial threat he provides. Sure headers look boring to some but it's the one thing that would frustrate me about RvP - for some reason he was great at heading defensively but when it came to goal scoring he seemed to go for the difficult route more than the "easy" one. Now if we can just get Blind or whoever to become a bit more consistent in taking corners..

Maybe we could now swap Smalling for Sanchez?;)

Does anybody know any more of this story?

Lukaku on Mourinho in December 2015:

"Everyone says it is Mourinho's fault but it is not his fault because I made the decision [to leave Chelsea]. I went to his office to ask if I could go.

"I signed the deal with Everton at 11 o'clock and the first text message I got on my old BlackBerry was from Mourinho saying: 'Good luck, do your best and I will see you next season.' He was the first. Nobody knows that and that is why for me he gets immense respect."

Mourinho on Lukaku expressing surprise he was released by Chelsea to join Everton on loan in 2013:

"Romelu likes to speak. He's a young boy who likes to speak. But the only thing he didn't say is why he went to Everton on loan. That's the only thing he never says. And my last contact with him was to tell him exactly that - 'why do you never say why you are not here?'"

PS - There is also a stat apparently that shows if you take away all of his goals last season, Evertons finishing position would have been the same, meaning his goals all came when the game was already won, not sure if that's even true.

Interesting segment of an interview with Lukaku here.

Just quoting this again bc I genuinely believe some of the nay sayers in particular should watch that and some of the other videos posted on that Twitter account. The man is incredibly well spoken and even though I already was excited about him joining - listening to him talk, especially from a self reflection standpoint, sold me completely.

Already discussed to death. Mourinho doesn't have full say in Chelsea transfer. They run a model with a board deciding transfer matter. Mourinho may have huge say at times, but not full say. The whole Mourinho hates youth is an over exaggerated agenda. Look at Chelsea before & after Mourinho. Doesn't look like youth means feck all to them

To all those who think this is not a good signing: what would you be thinking now if Liverpool had signed him up?

If the Lukaku deal is accurate will all the Woody haters apologize or we pretend nothing happen and resume the annual woody hatefest next summer?

I think the hope against teams sitting deep is that he'll finish the chances he does get at a very high rate and that he's got more potential in the air than he's shown, and strikers normally improve on that later in their career.

same as when they signed benteke
I am a bit slow here, but are you serious with the Benteke mention? Anyways, this board shite themselves when they had Benteke & we had to make do with Fellaini up front for a match or 2 before Martial happened

We should have had 3 signings sealed before the tour to give us a good shot at the title next season. Woody has had a poor window.
