Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea

The Inter chairman has openly spoke about how much happier he is with Dzeko.

Our best hope is Simeone deciding on him for his annual flop striker signing.
Yeah but he’s a businessman, I’d expect him to be over the moon at selling someone for 100m and replacing him for nothing. I reckon if Chelsea were prepared to sell, inter would be prepared to talk.

He was just being bitter in the aftermath of the transfer. I don't see Lukaku ending up back there but it's not because the Inter guy doesn't like him or rate him.

Chelsea just have to loan him out and pay half his wages or something.

The best was how adamant a load of people in here were that he's one of the best players in the world.

I knew he'd be crap in the usual way he always has been, but I thought he'd at least show better form for them than he did us, and he's not even managed that.

I’ve never known someone have so many drastically competing narratives around them, whilst remaining fundamentally the same player throughout.

Some people can't look past stats. That's always the problem here and it never tells the full story.

tbf, his stats have pretty consistently shown he’s not one of the elite, as his record against the big teams has always remained notably sketchy.

he’s an above average striker who often fluffs his lines on the biggest stage and is prone to bouts of low confidence…
He’s neither elite or a donkey, he’s just that. And that’s what he’s ALWAYS been.

They are likely in hiding now, but there are people (@adexkola?) that maintain he is a world-class player. He's really polarising.

No, they won't. They replaced him with 2 players who together earn less money. And they are just as competitive in the league and have already done better in the CL than they did with him.

When they bought him the first time he was 26 years old. And he had very good stats in his recent years. Come the summer he will have had his worst season ever and turning 29. Buying him now makes no sense for Inter.

Can pretty much judge people’s knowledge on football based on their opinion on Lukaku.

At the start of this season, he had 251 goals in 508 appearances. A goal every two games in top flight football.

He has 68 goals in 101 appearances for his country too.

He has his flaws, close control, going absent in big games, a bit of a ego. He makes himself hard to like with his gaffs and insecurity. He also hasn’t got an attractive technical style that draws in admirers.

However, when used properly, he is still an extremely good CF, with a goal record that would be the envy of all but the very best strikers in the world.

Is he elite? No, he’s not. But he is a very good player who has made a very bad transfer at a key point in his career.

It’s sad to see him as the object of ridicule now, but in many ways, he has done it to himself. He needs out of Chelsea yesterday.

But (as you've alluded too in fairness) if he knew his place and accepted his limitations he'd be respected as the decent top flight scorer he is/was. The problem is he genuinely believes he's an elite level player which means he will be judged by those standards.

If you talk like this you have to walk the walk.

Yeah, i accept that, he is definitely his own worst enemy. I think he is incredibly insecure and that is the root of the problem. Its just sad because I think he is a very good player who would have been far more respected had he just kept quiet.

Maybe Conte still has a hard on for him and they replace Kane with lukaku

The constant defense this guy gets in the media is truly baffling. He is just awful and offers nothing to a team playing possession style football like Chelsea. He only thrives in counter attacking teams (watch most of the goals he scored with us at inter).
This "he doesn't get enough service" narrative is ridiculous as well absolving his awful game play and just blaming his teammates for it instead, why players like Werner were able to get so many countless chances last year playing the same exact "system/formation" that some consider it to be the main "problem" for Lukaku's poor form? Its because Werner makes runs, at least tries to do something when he is not getting enough touches on the ball like dropping deep and not just stand behind the two opposing team's CBs. The elite strikers that he compared himself to like Benzema, Kane etc also do this all the time why cant he?!:)
Lukaku's movement is awful, his first touch is awful and isn't even clinical or finishes most of the "rare chances" he gets. To top it all this guys attitude on the pitch is just awful (seen it a lot when he was at Inter).
Its pretty clear that Tuchel doesnt fancy him but maybe because of the price tag and not wanting to fall out with the likes of Marina he has no other to choice but to play him.

Can you give any examples of the 'constant defence' he gets in the media? I haven't seen it.
I get he mouthed off about United, but I don't get why people hate the guy more than Hitler, Saddam and Pol Pot rolled into one.

Its not full on defense like I implied but more like excuses MOTD yesterday, the weird twitter brigade that are always ready to defend him and instead blame his team mates and Tuchel's "system" or "style of play" and some pundits like Craig Burley on Espn who thinks that Lukaku has to start every game for Chelsea and be played to his "strengths" (he even criticized Tuchel when he dropped him in the liverpool game after he did that dumb interview with Sky Sports Italia)

He's certainly a good striker, certainly not on the level of the likes of Benzema, Kane, Lewa.

I seen a stat where Lukaku touched the ball like 8 times away vs Palace, compared to Kane's 37 away at City. That echelon of strikers is just another level above Lukaku, as much as Lukaku wants to talk about himself being on their level.

Fair enough. On his day he can look very good and he has scored stacks over the years. He has his limitations, eg his big game record and weirdly being outmuscled at times, but he's more a meh part of our post-SAF era to me.

The sheer vitriol in this thread at times never ceases to surprise me.

7 times, one of which was from kick-off.

Nothing justifies touching the ball this ridiculously low except having a very lazy striker hiding behind the CBs. Lukaku is a joke considering the team he plays for and the ability he has. Something is wrong with mentally

I don’t know about that, he is deadly at international level and in Italy. The league just isn’t for him, it’s not for many players.

Doesn’t help his teammates rarely pick him out either, which is strange when Jorginho is in the team.

We won the game, silent domination

He occupied defenders and created a goal which was just offside.

We have to play him to get anything out of the situation. So may as well make the best of it!
