Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea

In other news, Tammy Abraham has just set a record for goals scored by an Englishman in Serie A in the three point pr. win era with 9 goals so far (16 in all competitions).

Didn't see him for Inter, but he seems to be in the same shape as he was for us. He's carrying way too much weight. He's not the most elegant player on the ball at the best of times.

Grealish is.
Lukaku is close 2nd.. and 6th..

Top 10 most expensive PL signings:
1. Grealish £105m
2. Lukaku £101m
3. Pogba £94m
4. Maguire £78m
5. Sancho £76m
6. Lukaku £76m (From Everton to Manchester United)
7. Van Dijk £76m
8. Havertz £72m
9. Pepe £72m
10. Kepa £72m
Spending big money on players really is a waste of time. One out of 10 is a success (so far, bit unfair on Sancho)

Agreed. The number of that actually work out is so small.
I think the problem is big teams have no reason to sell anymore so it’s big money for players taking a step up. If you bought Bruno for 100m it would be worth it or if we went big on Reece James but those transfers don’t seem to happen anymore. It’s big names seeing out contracts and going cheap that seems to be the future

But players like Hazard, Coutinho, Dembele, even Griezmann were all looking for that step up, even if some of them were already at an extremely elite level. I just think it's too big of a risk on just one player and history now prove that it's a terrible decision to go big, 100m+, on one player.

Remember the Morata/Lukaku arguments when we had the former and United had the latter?

After suffering through both I can say Morata is the lesser evil, significantly so aswell.
Both are human money laundering assets. No other way to explain the 400 odd million that has been spent on the two across a 7 year span

One undoubted success in that top 10.

A shocking record for all nvolved, only vvd is a success and there's hope for Sancho/Grealish

He becomes Forlan when a game has a bit of hype behind it

Forlan is the opposite end of Lukaku. He works fecking hard for a forward/striker, a playmaker, a leader, likeable, and proper big game player.

He did let everything get to him and choked some of the easiest chances I have ever seen.
It’s not a coincidence that he became elite when taking a step down

Or he just matured.

He has a whinge and then stands there offside for another 5 seconds as Chelsea are still attacking. Such a frustrating player.

God I hate him, so glad we got rid of him!

Laku that is, not God.

One of those players you're glad you don't have to cheer him on anymore. He's simply just a bit of a prat.

He’s easily one of the most dislikable players that has ever worn the United shirt in my time. The combination of him on the field and those interviews and statements he gives is just a losing combo.

Abramovich sick of Lukaku being shite.

I wonder where this mercenary prick will feck off to next. He'll have to go somewhere small again so he can be a big fish in a small pond to restore his reputation. Then, some other sap can pay £97.5 million for him and the cycle continues.

I'm guessing maybe Spurs cash in on Kane and sign Lukaku on the cheap?

Surely nobody willing to pay more than, what, £40mill now ? Maybe some Serie A team?

The idea that killed it in Italy is blown out of proportion. He was good of course but he still scored noticeably less npg in Serie A in both seasons than what he did with Everton. And about same numbers he had for United.

United managed to sell him to Inter because his wages weren’t too high. He is now earning much higher than what any club in Europe -except maybe N’Castle- would be willing to pay him.

Chelsea are stuck with him and they are gonna have to make it work

Oh I agree completely, he was shite - he is shite - but still managed to get enough G+A to convince the wider media he was a tier 1 star. He could do the same again, hypothetically.

Shite may be a bit strong, but he is not great by any stretch.

His salary would be a huge problem now, unlike in 2019 as italian clubs can't use the special tax regime for him (the individual should qualify as non-tax resident of Italy for the two years preceding the arrival in Italy)
That's why I can't see him in Serie A until summer 2023 unless he takes a 50% pay cut

P.S.: To those who don't know about it
Special tax regime= portion of income exempted from Italian taxation for professional athletes is reduced to 50%. So someone who earns £150k post taxes in UK ( ~ 300k before taxes), would put in his pocket £225k in Italy (~ 300k before taxes.).
That's why Inter could afford Lukaku, Eriksen and Alexis' wages combined.
