Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea

Both are good-average strikers - so for me it shows that Conte is the winning cause rather than the striker.

Some people will say anything to avoid admitting Lukaku is a top striker. So now it's down to Conte alone? Hilarious! What will you say if Chelsea win the title or Lukaku ends the season top scorer? All Tuchel yea?

Apparently the diet change he made to fix his 'malfunctioning digestive system' and get back into shape at Inter was eliminating 'potatoes, fried food and alcohol'.

Groundbreaking stuff.

I've seen it subtly suggested that it was United's dieticians which were responsible for him being out of shape, but there's no chance they were permitting him to drink alcohol. It was clearly just a case of a guy having checked out. Not buying the 'bulking for the World Cup' theory either.

All said, I'm still doing everything I can to transfer him in my FPL team hah. Think he will get a bucketload of goals at Chelsea even if I still don't rate his all round play at all.

Of course Lukaku would be permitted to drink alcohol at United, unless they were aware of something specific regarding Lukaku and alcohol.

Not surprised our fans are here overrating our rivals transfer business. Lukaku is still the same player, in Italy they just couldn't deal with his pace and strength just like with similar players like Duvan Zapata at Atalanta and with players like Victor Ibarbo a while back. I watched Inter games and the space be was afforded to run into won't be there in England, his first touch still isn't to be trusted. He'll score in double digits for sure but won't be the game changer you all think he'll be. This is also coming from someone that supported him fully while he was here. Wish him all the best but I'm not at all concerned with this signing.

Our top scorer in the PL got 7 last year, if he's scoring in double digits it's already a boost.

No doubt but not enough to win the league boost. Some are talking about him being a game changer. He'll still go missing in the big games and ball will bounce off him in some key moments. Let's see though, welcome more competiton.

Let's re-examine this in a month, when the guy has actually had chance to kick a ball for us.

feck me. People pretending like Lukaku hasn’t ever played in the premier league and isn’t a known quantity

I don’t give a feck who he is playing for, you will get the same bloke and he’s proven that his entire career. The difference is he spanks weak teams and gets found out against harder opposition.

Will he improve Chelsea? Yes he will.

Will he be a game changer for them to win the league? No he will not.

He's nailed on to score against us. It is inevitable.
Oh feck, would hate to see him 'shushing' the Stretford End, cupping his ears, kissing the Chelski badge.
Just have to hope Varane doesn't allow him a sniff and he is subbed off after 70 minutes to loud jeers instead.

Initially I didn't believe lewa was offered to chelsea but tuchel rejected it and opted for Lukaku. I thought it was just rumour initially but recent signals from lewa s camp certainly made to believe in it that he wanted to move for new challenge.

All in all tuchel wanted Lukaku more than board signing. So Tuchel certainly has plans to maximise his strengths to team s advantage in my opinion.Next 6 games five top teams in it will certainly give the clearer picture how good Lukaku will be against bigger teams.

No excuses will be made by many like new manager bounce for tuchel s success and accept Lukaku improved a lot I hope. :D

What?
You're playing Arsenal, Liverpool, Villa, Spurs, City, Southampton.

You can be generous and include Spurs as a top team, making it 3 with Liverpool, Tottenham and City.

I thought you were laughing at Lewandowski part :D

I couldn't be bothered, but given his comments it wouldn't surprise me if Lewa&co has tried to approach clubs, but i doubt Bayern has been a part of that. They're worse than Levy when it comes to negotiations, and there's no way they won't demand a hefty premium given his performances and the lack of quality strikers available. He's 33 (tomorrow), it's a no go for most clubs.

I'd like to see a breakdown of his goals in his first season under Mourinho. He scored 27, but iirc about 15 of those came by October and were mainly scored on the counter when we were already winning.

That will be interesting to see. The good news is he's not Morata, otherwise you'd be doomed

Being a flat track bully is precisely what Chelsea need, so he will be a guaranteed success in that regard.

The issue with him will be if he continues his form against top 6 opponents at United, what was it 1 goal in 22 games? Or 3? Then Tuchel will have to make a choice whether to leave him out in those fixtures and as we all know Lukaku isn’t exactly the best at dealing with rejection.

Can't understand all the pundits going for Chelsea this season and stating that Lukakus the main factor.
Feck sake, he's the same player that played for us. He was just playing in weaker league for a couple of seasons.
Hell, even a 55yr old Ashley Young did pretty well over there.

He just led Inter Milan to the Seria A title, breaking Juventus' 8 year dominance and being named Seria A MVP in the process. If you're ridiculing Seria A, you've got to keep in mind that this is a league that features Cristiano Ronaldo and other great players. If we dismiss Lukaku's performance there, then you've got to do the same for everyone else, given that he was the most impressive performer.

Inter Milan came bottom of their group in the UCL while no Italian side got past the RO16.

Aside from Roma who lost 8-5 on aggregate to United in the Semis, no other Italian side got past the RO16 in the Europa League.

That's true, but there have been occasions in which United struggled in Europe but dominated domestically, including the mid to late 90s and anomalies like 2012. I don't think performances in European cup competitions perfectly illustrate the quality of a league.

And then italy won the euros with a squad that had 4 players from outside serie A...

Yeah but one of them is Jorginho and he's the glue  !

Hopefully he'll get a good understanding with Lukaku's movement quickly as he can put the ball on a six pence for him.

 Italy just finished the job on england with full of pl players but Italy had two pl and farmer French league player and full of serie a players. Don't put pl as best, they were laughing stock in international arena in past and present.

Of course one player from pl in top 3 of uefa player of the year and another not able to get into the chelsea team for left back position.

EPL shits over Italian football. International football is a terrible metric for league quality since the EPL has such an array of international stars.

One international match narrowly won by penalties definitely proves your point. You do realise the EPL isn’t just England players?

Serie A is a very good league, it's just not as good as the Premier League. He did really well, and it has to be partly down to his own improvement, not just the difference in league quality.

It's just that, I expect that he has improved the things he was already good at, rather than transforming into a completely different type of player.

From the comments of his new manager and various pundits/entertainers, it would appear the player is yet again being stereotyped into a type of player that we know he just is not. He doesn't play well with his back to goal, doesn't bring others into play, will not win many aerial duels or bring others into play with little flicks.
Scores goals, pacey, works the channels. A poacher and a gentle giant. Nothing like his idol.

It's fascinating that this guy has been in England for eons now, but every set of fans has to learn this anew, even at a club that previously employed him, however briefly.

What has Tuchel said about Rom ?
He said "I think, with the exit of Olivier Giroud, we could use a player used to playing with their back to goal, whose strength is to keep possession from long balls".

In for a rude awakening, and just as well.

If that's accurate, I am afraid (happy) there is going be massive disappointment in Chelsea camp. He isn't that type of player at all. Mourinho and all of us got fooled into this initially but Ole knew and he didn't play Lukaku like that but gave him space to run to the ball which is what he is good at.

Tuchel knew lot about player more than you or me mate. Probably you will get rude awakening about Lukaku s game more than anything in my opinion.
