I still haven't got over the fanfare on here when we signed him. It genuinely annoys me to this day that so many couldn't see his huge issues and wouldn't have it when told he's not good enough. I bet they're the same posters that are slating him now.

I honestly can't believe we signed him. For me it's my biggest gripe with Jose.

He is worse than a passenger

Another highlight from today...

Heskey regularly started for England because he could hold the ball and support Rooney, wasn't it?

Remember when Fergie got Andy Cole back in form by dropping him for a 20 year old Paul Scholes?

Good times.

Most of our players are playing at their bottom level and Lukaku's bottom level is extremely low.

Remember when our less skilled players were guys like O'Shea and JSP... man, I want to cry.

A £75m striker should not need a plethora of chances to score.

It’s not an excuse that he doesn’t get enough service. It’s an admission that he’s not good enough to create anything on his own.

I would even say that for any striker at the highest level, regardless of his price tag.

A victory over Chelsea nonetheless. Am i doing it right, guys?

Or any forward player!

Imagine spending £75m on a winger and blaming his lack of assists, or general inability to create any chances on the fact he wasn’t being passed to enough on the byline.

We might as well have signed Jonathan Walters if all we expect from a Manchester United No 9 is to be a basic shape that can finish more chances than not.

We seem to play better football without him as well. He offers nothing, in fact he hinders the team.

Hope we sell him, or relegate him to a bench role after this season.

Morata last night (let's not even mention Kane) showed much more movement and he had a bad game. Lukaku is clueless but he is supposed to be a "student of the game".

Would love to see him moved on but who on earth is likely to go for him? We've stuck him on such a big contract that no other club would be willing to match. The only hope is JM leaves & a new guy, with a true footballing ethos, tells him he's not part of his plans and he needs to move elsewhere. In which case we write off nigh on £90m and subsidize half of his salary at a new club. Either way we will be paying for this transfer for some time

He was okay. Held the ball up very well and forced a good save. The only bad moment I can think of is the poor touch.

It's quite ridiculous how, when Lukaku plays, we resort to pumping 100 yard passes up to him and sling in cross after cross when actually that's not his strength.

If we played some nimble, fast thinking players in front of him and slid balls through he'd look a far better player! He's never been good at building up play or an out and out target man! Somehow Mou can't see it!

I noticed this yesterday, our style of play literally changed but I don't know if it was solely because of him or young playing LB... probably a combination of the two

In recent games before this one, Shaw martial and pogba all interlinked in the left to create something... yesterday, the left side was just in the hands of young to try and cross it in with martial closer to lukaku perhaps to attack a knock down

I hope we never see such again with Sanchez replacing big Rom and Shaw replacing young

Don't act like Manchester is great without Lukaku. Late winner is not great, entertaining yes, but not great. Lukaku is not Messi but provide him correct balls , he scores. He has done that since years. And stop with this 75millions...that's the reflect of the market, not the real player's value. Just look at the Mbappe's price. Insane !

We will never ever win a premier league title with this guy as our first choice center forward. By accepting mid level players, we accept a mid table position, which is where we are.

We put 31 crosses into the box against Palace.

31

Lukaku did have 1 good headed effort well saved, and maybe 1 or 2 flicks to set up others. I certainly don't think its all down to him that we didnt convert more of these crosses into attempts at goal

Ashley Young had 11 attempted crosses, 0 were met by a United player. Mata 5 attempts with 1 reaching a United player. And the other 15 attempts were spread quite evenly between the team.

Only Mata and Darmian found a teammate with their cross, 1 each. Lukaku managed 1 shot.

Very clearly there is something wrong with our approach. Its not good enough to just scapegoat Lukaku and make out its all him, we had that many attempts at finding players in the box and Martial is an inside striker as much as anything else. He should be a 2nd threat when someone else crosses.

As we can see from our average positions during the match (left side) Mata might have started right wing but really he ended up as an extra CM :

So that cant help us have enough presence in the box when we deliver. We're supposed to have 3 front players but we had 2. I guess Lingard and Pogba were supposed to get forward and make that 3rd? They didnt get on the end of all these crosses either.

Also, Lukaku might not have got on the end of more than 1 of those 31 crosses but he did win the ball in the air. Its just it was from long balls.

He did compete, he did win the ball in the air and find teammates at times. But neither he nor other players could get on the end of more than 1 of 31 crosses. Which suggests those crosses and our tactics of getting players into the box to get on the end of those crosses needs major work.

He's a powerful runner who likes to run on to the ball. He's technique is bullshit lbut we somehow contrive to play in a way that accentuate his flaws.

The real take-away from this for me is that we were forced to put in 31 crosses against Crystal fecking Palace. It says something about the total lack of offensive cohesion in our team. To cross the ball into the box should be the last resort when attacking, and I am pretty sure that it is for Mourinho. Scary statistics.
