My man of the match. I like that the goals are distributed evenly between Lukaku, Rashford and Martial plus finally a midfielder who scores goals.

Yeah, he is good option to have on bench. He scores decent number of goals and also he can play as winger.
He's actually carved out a few decent chances for the rest.

It was a lovely pass to Lingard on Sunday that should have been converted

If you like a player, you focus on what he can do, if you don't, you focus on what he can't. I like him because ultimately he will win Utd more games than he will lose us them. Despite his lack of form and games, already offered key moments in games that have amounted to winning. In the craziness of the Liverpool game, create 2 of the best chances in the whole game. Arsenal, the same. Last night, two excellent finishes left and right foot. The quality of all those moments and passes suggest he's a top, top player. No doubt he lets himself down not taking care of the ball, and I think at times he's think about 'the what next' rather than controlling the ball and situation first. I think that will improve with time but I'm in no doubt, he is not going anywhere.....but maybe I'm just blinded cause I like him.

Right now he's a little less than a goal every other game striker. Its not enough. If we're to accept a player who offers absolutely nothing but goals they have to be scoring close to 1 in 1. I think he's got the remainder of the season to show he can improve his striking ratio and be given another season, or he will be on the market in the summer.

He's not offering nothing but goals. Set up a few that should have been converted.

He should be scoring more too, though.

On the market....this fecking forum makes me piss at times.

You think we're going to sit on a 75m bench warmer, or he's going to accept that status?

It's called being a big club and playing for a big club. Take a look at other big clubs bench.....

2 goals in the last 10. Welcome back CO63. Who would you choose to be our starting striker next season, Rashford or Lukaku?
He scored goals so that's that, nothing to complain about, even for those hilarious controls.

Oh no not stats, how many of those 10 games did he play the full 90 minutes or as a centre-forward, plus he along with other strikers often go through spells of not scoring for 6,7 or 8(full games), in fact i'm sure the clubs all time goalscoring record holder(whose name escapes me) often went on such runs of not scoring....

I'd pick Rashford as the central striker in a three with Lukaku to his right, Martial obviously to his left.

As long as he keeps controlling the ball into the back of the net I couldn't give a flying fart if occasionally his first touch isn't the best, and it's just lazy to bring it up, he wouldn't have had the career he's had if it was half as bad as some on here make out.

He drives you nuts at times with his lack of control and aimless passes but even having a rubbish season he is heading for being top goalscorer, if he gets the games. For all the love of Rashford and Martial they havent proved to be 20-30 goals a season strikers and until that happens we need Lukaku.

Not a bad article from the guardian on him. Think the comment is fair but slightly glossing over just how bad his actual footballing skills are some games.

There is something slightly unsettling about Lukaku. He is a player who seems to draw disproportionate criticism. There is something about him that feels unconvincing. His first touch occasionally seems heavy. His movement at times seems unimaginative. He is capable of missing fairly straightforward chances, as he did early on at Selhurst Park.

Romelu Lukaku is underrated in here.

111 goals in the premier league so far. That puts him in the top 20 all time best finishers in the league.

What I like most about the lad is his attitude. I thought he wasn't whining under Jose because he was playing but since Ole took charge, even with limited playing time, his attitude has been good. And has anyone notices what a fine crosser of the ball he is?

I don't even think his miss was that bad... yeah he should have scored, but the ball was coming pretty quick and it's still a volley, not exactly a sitter by any stretch.

Townsend's miss was much worse in the game. Schlupp's was also pretty bad.

Tbh i think he himself knows hes very lucky to be playing for a club like us and hes not really good enough.
I think he suffers from a bit of an inferiority complex because of it.
Hence all the thumbs up and claps at his team mates.
Even when they make mistakes and give him shit passes its always a thumbs up.

How is he not good enough for Manchester United? At the very least, he is good enough for our bench. I think people under estimate this lad a lot because he has had a bad patch recently during a time most of the other lads were playing crap. He is one of the best 20 finishers in premier league history based on numbers and he is just 25.

He's a top player. Hopefully he's through his bad patch now. He'll always score goals and his record shows that. His touch CAN look awful SOMETIMES. It's a strange things as at other times his touch looks great. He's definitely a valuable part of the squad.

Of the 3 chances he had, he missed the easiest one - but buried the other 2.

Really loved his first goal, lovely, calm finish on his weaker foot - didn’t think he he had it in him.

As much as I hate his first touch and his finger pointing and lack of movement at times - I really like his attitude. Hope he can continue improving under Ole.

He played very well overall and you can see he's working a bit harder which is great news.

He's still firmly second choice behind Rashford though because his technical will always cause attacks to break down and his physical limitations will generally give defenders an easier time.

Whether he's happy as a second choice striker and whether the board would consider a second choice on his salary a viable option are two completely separate questions though; especially with Ole looking to give game time to our talented youngsters.

It's amazing how some posters on here change their mind on a player depending on how the wind changes.

I have watched this guy, every single game since he started with this club (every OT game in the flesh), and he is just not United quality. The touch, and awareness of this guy, plus the willingness to actually perform when it is required is dire.

Currently we are talking about 'wanting' to get back to where we belong, and expect; and this means bringing the best players to our club. Sure, if all we want is to continue to be top 4 - struggle in next years chanpions league - get top 4 again - struggle again, and repeat, then fine, we just accept very average players and 'pretend' they are better than they really are.

But, if we have a desire to get back to the very top, then we need a much better quality of striker than Romelu Lukaku. PSG proved we are a long, long way from performing at the highest level, and we are in real danger of becoming the next Liverpool/Arsenal.

I am sure he is a nice bloke, but his obvious limitations are there for all to see.

How is he offering nothing but goals at the moment? He got two assists against Arsenal a few weeks ago and created our best chances against Liverpool on Sunday.

City - Jesus
Liverpool - Sturridge
Spurs - Llorente
Arsenal - Lacazette
Chelsea - Giroud

Not seeing a 75m supposed star player amongst any of those names.

Chelsea did have an underperforming star but they got rid of him, just like we will with ours if he doesn't improve. Top clubs have either upcoming players with star potential or older players bringing experience. Nobody has a Lukaku happily sitting on the bench.

Two great pieces of finishing last night against Palace, first one was a really good goal, second wasn't easy at all, the way he managed to get his leg up and around the ball then finish from that angle was impressive.

Liverpool - Kieta
Arsenal - Ozil
City - multiple 50m plus players
Spurs - Sanchez

you literally had to cherry pick those names while narrowing it down to strikers to fit an agenda. Why? All clubs have big money subs on their bench

Well, for starters we are talking about strikers here.

Otherwise, Kieta is young and busy establishing himself, Ozil is 30 and on the decline, and Sanchez is 22. Lukaku is 25, in his prime, and more established than any of them. You're kind of backing my point with those names.

So you're expecting us to get 75mil for him if we chose to move him on?

Not really, but who knows. The market continues to inflate. Either way, we brought him in as one of the top 2 or 3 strikers in England with the intention of him leading the attack from day one. I doubt either side are going to be content with him warming the bench.

So then what does his transfer fee matter when comparing to other players? We don't have a 75mil player sitting on the bench, we have a player valued, l imagine, in the region of £50mil, which puts him in line with plenty of the other players already suggested to you. The fact he's a striker doesn't detract from the point, if anything it strengthens it, because invariably a comparably skilled striker will have higher price than a midfielder or a defender. That would make his position on the bench far more viable than say Keita, for example.

He never mentioned strikers, he categorical said that big clubs have big signings on the bench and he isn't wrong.
You're just giving excuses / reasons why that's the case.
Is Lukaku even a bench player? He's starting a lot of games here compared to the rest of the big bench players? Seems Ole is rotating across the frontline rather than dropping certain players from the side.
He is a new manager after all, he needs players to adapt to his system and would focus on those most suitable to his style of play while allowing players like Lukaku time to adapt. Ole did say he wanted Lukaku to play on the half turn rather than with his back to goal. Wouldn't that fall under that adapt excuse you just haphazardly gave to Keieta?
See how anything can be explained away?

Yea, you are as good as your performance in the last game. "I think he is a quality player, "I am starting to like him" etc are usually seen after every good game. Back to being average and in need of upgrading after a not-so-good game.

I'm yet to see anyone name a high profile star player in their prime happily sitting on the bench. In any position. You either have young players looking to establish themselves or older players who are bringing their experience as they start to slow down, or players who are unhappy with the situation like Morata was. We will be no different with Lukaku.

City have had 60m signing Mahrez sitting on the bench for most of the season. Even just in the time since Ole has taken over Lukaku has featured more for us in the PL than Mahrez has for them.
